Fancy getting second hand in ears…

    • +1

Not sure why you're so downvoted, seems gross to me too.

      • +1

I think they justify it by having new tips, but its still gross

    • +1

Yeah, I wouldn't even let a friend use mine, even if they put their own tips on them.

    • +9

What's the issue? They most likely cleaned with new buds.
Do you BYO cutlery to a restaurant, BYO ear thermometer to the hospital or BYO tools to the dentist?

If anything, this makes me more curious about how dirty your ear hole is.

      • They must be celibate as well.

        • +1

Reproductive canals are self-cleaning, restaurants use very hot commercial dishwashers and health and safety inspectors routinely shut down restaurants for violating codes, and an otoscope in a hospital would use disposable inserts.

OTOH you have an ebay seller with no oversight selling refurbed items that have been in gross ears with a promise that they cleaned them well - and i've seen "refurbed" PCs caked with dust and grime. Call me a paranoid virgin but i'd just rather splurge for new earphones.

          • +1

@ssfps: So you are not interested in this bargain.

            OK

Certified - Refurbished: The seller certifies that the item is in a like-new condition and that it has been inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor to meet manufacturer specifications. The product will be in new packaging with original or new accessories.

ps if, as you say, "reproductive canals are self-cleaning", how do we have STDs?

by an eBay seller, you mean the official Sony Australia eBay store.

an otoscope in a hospital would use disposable inserts

Yes, exactly. Tell me how that is different to getting new tips on these.

I feel like you are trying to justify an irrational fear here. It's ok to have irrational fears because most of us do, but I don't think you should try to convince others that it is rational.

  • Whats the verdict for making phone calls with these?

    • 6/10 at best. It's the only average aspect to them IMO (I have them, but I despise talking on the phone, so eh).

    • Pixel buds pro are much better for phone calls .. Google or YouTube search and you can hear the comparisons

      • Thanks guys!

  • This or airpod pro2? Price aside, how’s the sound ?

    • +3

Default sound signature is bass heavy and treble lacking. Once you EQ properly, I'd say these are the best on the market.

If you're on an iPhone, I'd probably go the AirPod Pro 2 just for simplicity's sake. Android, these (even better with the free 'Wavelet' app on the Play Store to further unlock more sound out of them).

      • sweet, thanks a lot !!!

  • If this is the full over the ear i may get sucked in to buy

Their Over ears have a shocking history of high failure rates.

… As do their in ears.

I have nothing against refurbs, but based on shopping for this exact product and the over ear model also the string of unhappy customers that have had theirs fail suggest that buying these is a bad idea.

      • Thays why we have lots of refub deals from sony basically they are returned items

        • Exactly.

I don't know why people think that's a good thing.

The high number of refurbs available clearly show there is a quality issue.

          The headphones are even worse…

          • @virtual81: i have the WF-1000XM3 and still okay till now, also refub,
but yeah during covid i dont use a lot. kind of regret actually. lots of anker etc etc very similar feature and quality for much cheaper

          • @virtual81: Lots of people return expensive earbuds that don't fit well in their ears, not because of any faults

            • @EarlyBird: The reviews suggest quality is the leading issue.

Certainly fewer refurbs available from other brands.

so basically you will be buying something that was in somebody else's orifice?

    • +5

      just like restaurant cutlery

these come with brand new foam tips

    • … and ears

  • :D

  • +4

For this price they're a steal. I've had mine about a year and have no complaints.

  • I could see still stock available at $189 but coupon not getting applied
