Citibank PayAll to ATO hasn't been received

Paid a tax bill with PayAll for the first time, back in November. Called the ATO and they can't find a transaction with the amount I paid. Citibank confirmed the account number it was paid to. It has been escalated with the ATO but hasn't been resolved yet.

It's possible I put in a bad reference number so it just needs some digging out from ATO's side, but Citibank cant seem to be able to get that info.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Can anyone share the BSB and account number of the PayAll account?

  • I’m assuming you’re looking for the bank account details shown on this ATO webpage?

    • I've already sent the money to that account. It hasn't been received.

Find the transaction in your Citibank account and look at the Reference. Even if it is wrong, provide it to the ATO and they will be able to find it. It may take a couple of weeks but they will be able to match it in the end.

    • The reference I have in the app is the Citibank one, and the CSR said it wouldn't help them to have it, since it's really only useful between yourself and Citibank.

Anyway, it eventually was picked up earlier in Jan. It's just a bit unnerving to send so much money somewhere and it not being recognised for so long.

ATO only accepts Apple Gift Cards now though :/

    • They've changed the process…

You need to apply the iTunes gift cards to the official ATO account which in turn funds the endless supply of gold music content.

Citibank has scammed you, it's common knowledge ATO only accepts itunes cards.

    • I couldn't get enough of them so I had to resort to using real money.

  • I had similar issue. The problem is the app is glitchy and if you redo previous transaction it doesnt autopopulate description which has the reference number. Either way, call ATO give them transaction confirmation and amount and they will trace. Might take a while depending on how unique the amount is but it will get found eventually, don't stress

There is no bsb, for the recipient in transaction shows 'Citi group' as description only

    • It was my first time using the service and worried I did something wrong. Anyway, it's resolved now. Only took the phone calls.

  • Hi ozbargainsam! i am having the same problem. It’s so frustrating. May i ask - did you ring Citibank to solve it, or did you have to contact ATO in the end?

    • Called the ATO a few times and they escalated it. It was sorted eventually in early Jan, I assume the ATO had to do a bit more manual digging to find it.

Citibank CS wasn't excellent at figuring out what I wanted. Called back just to get another operator who would actually give me the BSB/Account so I can confirm I put in the correct details.

      • Ah, I was afraid I would have to do this! Do you recall which number you rang? I know this is stretching the memory!

        • I called the late payment number (13 11 42) because it was late by that time.
