Been looking for new AVR to upgrade my 12 years old Yamaha RX-V365.

I thought it's the best deal $1044 including shipping. better than the previous listing $1080+shipping from Videopro.

    This is very misleading!. The 80W per channel rating is only on 2 ch mode. Not when all 7 channels are being used.

      yeah but power ratings are misleading in general. All manufacturers do it similar to this. also, the difference in a dozen Watts RMS when using the same speakers is negligible. you'd have to double the amplifier power to get +3db

        I use really good speakers with 96db sensitivity. I love my klipsch speakers.

        I have two receivers in different rooms, so how would I read the following copied from spec sheets, and if I haven't changed any settings apart from speaker distance, how would I tell how much wattage is being delivered to my speakers in 5.1 configuration?

          My question would be, why does it really matter? Is the system loud enough as is?

          Probably a more relevant measure is the SPL - that's how loud your system is. I believe you can have a louder system with more efficient speakers (e.g. @mckayver above has very efficient speakers at 96db sensitivity measured at 1m distance / input power of 1W) so he would have to use less power than I do to achieve the same 'loudness', for example, with my 85 db sensitivity Fluance bookshelfs.

          Also, speaker impedance plays a role in how much power you need.

          One figure from the stats you posted above - THD - I think is very important and is one of the reasons why these power figures can be fudged. A Total Harmonic Distortion of 10% would be pretty much un-listenable; would sound like distorted shit.

          TL;DR: If you're happy with how load your system is, stick with your current receivers. If you want louder; get some more exxy highly sensitive (>95db) speakers.

      Mainly an issue when you run all channel stereo (if you are so inclined) and you'll likely notice a drop off in the performance of your fronts…. which I do significantly with Marantz Slimline receivers. Bass almost disappears.

      Not so much an issue for everyday surround sound viewing.

    I have just moved into a new build.

    We got 5 KRIX Hemispherix A20's installed as part of the build and now need a Subwoofer and AVR.

    Anyone have any recommendations? or if this would be a good start? The 2700 is only slightly more too.

    The room isn't huge, 3.4m x 3.9m so not sure if 7.2 or 5.2 would be much difference

      My research suggested to go with the newer 1700h. basically the same but 2x more 8k HDMI in.

        I’ve done a bit more digging too after most of the early stuff I’d seen suggested similar.

        The below link says the 2700 is a better all round system:

        Of course, if you have a speaker system that does its best work with plenty of dynamic power, or a system that supports more than seven channels, then it goes without saying the X1700H won’t be your cup of tea. And while trebles and detailing are good for the money, you won’t feel quite the same precision and sense of soundstage layering, construction and scale that you might hear from an amp with more power and/or superior components, such as Denon’s own step-up X2700H.
        This is so obvious when you’re talking about a relatively low-spec AVR that I wouldn’t normally mention it. But comparing the X1700H with Denon’s costlier models is more pertinent than usual, thanks to the peculiar situation where anyone who wants more than a single integrated 4K/120 HDMI input (rather than going for an optional external switcher) currently has to choose this one.

      2 year warranty on the Denon I believe. would go with Denon. I just replaced a vsx 930 that blew up

      It would be 5.2.2 on its own. Can't see how it'd be any different?

      I haven't come across any receiver that can add channels, only replace existing with extra amps.

        A couple of the higher end Denons do - ie. it has X channels of amplification but X + 2 channels of processing by using a set of preouts

      It can't do 7.2.4. The X3700H can do 7.2.4 with an additional 2-channel amp.

    Got this amp last year and it is great. No real issues with it so far and the HDMI 2.1 works well. Hooked up to a PS5 and LG C2.
    A lot of flexibility in sound adjustment and the Audyssey is OKish. Probably not much that is better for the price.

    I got this recently to replace a yamaha rx-v571. I'm amazed at the improvement in sound.
    Everything I've read says it's 80W but the sticker on the front says 7x145W.

      Have a look on Amazon at the fibre HDMI cables - they're reasonably priced

      Make sure you get one that is "certified" if possible and test it before you run it in any walls - also they're directional so beware

      I bought:

      If want a UHS certified cable that can run for 10 metres then, sorry, you'll pay a healthy chunk. Edit: lachhelix above says there is a certified 10m cable from amazon, but yeah it's a bit exxy.

      If you "only" need regular 4k - that is, UHD discs, 4k Netflix, and so on - and don't need the higher specs needed to run gaming @ 120Hz with VRR or whatever, then I'd steer you towards the Series-3A HDMI from Blue Jean Cable, they can go over 10m.

      Source: I've bought heaps of stuff from BJC over the years and it is always good quality, no-BS product. In an previous install I ran HD over one of their HDMI cables for 30 metres and it worked perfectly, so I see no reason to doubt their claims that their 3A cable will push 18Gb over 10m.

      They also do toslink cables to over 15m.

    Great price, thanks OP. I've been wanting to upgrade my ten year old Pioneer AVR since I got my PS5. My Pioneer AVR doesn't have 4K passthrough or ARC so I've been using optical. Looking forward to finally play my PS5 with lossless audio and upgrading to an Atmos set up.

          Legit, best money I ever spent getting Atmos - I have a Yamaha V6A so quite a budget amp, and 2 Selby in-ceiling speakers in quite a small room and it's amazing.
          When you finally get them, watch the race scene in Ready Player One….. It's amazing!

            Unfortunately I’m in a rental and I can’t do in-ceiling speakers but I’m considering upfiring speakers or just doing the regular side speakers.
