  • Nice deal.
Minus 5% Cashback too, brings it down to $4688 - $250 from Canon = $4,438.

Rather go for Sony A7R V (picked one up recently for $4650) or wait for EOS R5 ii , about to launch in a couple of months. They have resolved the heating and other issues of R5 in this version. EOS R5 price will keep tanking in coming weeks / months.
Either ways, beware Canon has blocked use of 3rd party lenses, only Canon lenses - shooting themselves 'on' the foot (pun intended)

    • Wow that’s so sucky. Wide compatibility please!

    • What do you mean by blocked?

Are they not sharing the connector details with 3rd party (as they have done traditionally, requiring 3rd party companies to reverse engineer it), or have they actually installed firmware that prevents the usage of 3rd party lenses?

        @wittyusername

Canon has banned third-party lens manufacturers from making and selling lenses for Canon's RF mount cameras.
It will take them a few months or maybe a couple years before they come back to senses.

        • Outrageous.

I'm in the sony ecosystem and the wide range of 3rd party lenses is a key reason I went with them. I knew canon didn't like to release the mount specs, but to actually ban it is crazy. Those RF lenses aren't cheap, even when compared to Sony lenses!

          • @wittyusername: that is the reason I went A7R v instead of Canon R5.
Those Sigmas and Samyang are pretty good compared to some of even G Master series Sony or fractionally inferior to which I don't care as I am no professional photographer and would rather save 40-50% off the price of the lenses for 5-10% quality reduction, that too if any.

            • @Jabberwocky: If you haven't tried out the Tamron 35-150 she's a beaut.

              • @wittyusername: nah I am currently sticking with

                Sony 55mm / 1.8 Zeiss
                Sony 16-35mm f4 PZ
                Sony 24-70mm GMii
                Sony 70-200mm GM OSS ii
                Sigma 35mm 1.4 DN ART

Next on my radar is 85mm ART

                • @Jabberwocky: I've been eying off the Sony 14mm 1.8 but since it's almost purely for astro, it's hard to pull the trigger. Espescially now I've moved to Melbourne and the clouds hamper 50% of astro shots anyway.

$5K is quite expensive for a hand warmer.

  • Just bought the R6 mark ii , as the R5 mark ii will come out shortly

All my lenses are Sigma Art EF and they have no issues with the R6

    • What’s better the R6 mark ii or the R5?

      • +1

        R5 of course.
But 'Better' depends on your use case.
Semi-pro to pro photographer , extensive video creation , and can spend extra $1500-2000 , go for R5.
Hobbyist who wants great photos, don't print 4-6 ft portraits , R6 ii is plenty.
R6 with its 2nd iteration has crept very close to R5.
(Auto focus in R6 ii seems to be similar to R5, so definitely a plus for R6 ii)
