    • How do you use in hotel, don't they ask your name suppose to be in the card? I honestly want to pay Anytime Fitness membership in advanced, but I haven't asked the staff yet

      • +1

        Really depends

If you use things like booking.com and need instant payment won't work. But if payment at hotel, you can added on your phone and tap to pay.. if they need cc on file, just give them one

From Coles deal probably amount too small but I bought $500 from the 10% off Amazon deal and bought 10% off Amazon gift cards at Aldi

When you pay you never tell them what you pay with

        • Genius! I've never thought like that about paying in the hotel at the receptionist desk instead of paying online. that's great idea., Now I wonder about gym membership hahahah

          • +1

@ivyholmes: 7997 does mention exercise club and fitness club you might be in luck . I would say pay in person rather than online would give you more chance of acceptance

The Restaurant Choice Gift Card can be used at the following merchant category locations: Eating Places and Restaurants (5812), Hotels, Caterers (5811), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars,
Taverns, Cocktail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (5813) Fast Food Restaurants (5814) Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (7011), Amusement Parks, Circuses, Carnivals, and Fortune Tellers (7996), Membership Clubs (Sports, Recreation, Athletic), Country Clubs, and Private Golf Course (7997).

    • Ooh nice tip on swimming pool entry, will give it a go!

      • Ya I was amazed too

    • Out of curiosity I tried to pay my swimming pool entry with it today and it declined. Will stick to restaurants me thinks.

      • That's bad..

      • what kind of swimming pool? was it government or private?

the digital visa tap worked for a government one .. not sure about physical card

the thing is lots of trial and error with these cards…. don't be surprised if it declines

  • At my local Coles, all of the celebration gift cards dont show the Officeworks logo on them? Does anyone know if they are still valid at Officeworks if the card doesn't show their logo on it? Would they be old cards that were printed before Officeworks joined up?

    • +2

You can redeem any Celebration gift card at Officeworks, regardless of what logos are printed on the front of the gift card.

      • The webpage for the Celebration gift card says that it is accepted at Officeworks.

      • I purchased a Celebration gift card with no Officeworks logo on the physical card earlier today from Coles, and was able to use it instore at Officeworks later in the day.

      • When I added the same Celebration gift card to a mobile wallet, the gift card image on the mobile wallet showed the Officeworks logo.

What you need to keep in mind is that Celebration gift cards have been manufactured in two batches (August 2021, June 2022), and only the June 2022 batch includes the Officeworks logo. I strongly suspect Officeworks was only added to the Celebration gift card at the end of September 2022 at the same time that the Ultimate gift card scheme underwent a major update. (If you did not realise, Celebration gift cards are functionally a type of Ultimate gift card exclusively sold at Coles.)

And just in case if you were wondering, it is a very similar story for Ultimate gift cards (at least the Visa version).

  • Would be nice if someone could confirm whether or not a physical Restaurant Choice can be converted to digital (as in they've actually done it themselves), as I'm getting low on balance with my remaining OnlyOne Fast Food cards which I use to make online orders such as KFC app-only deals (still have about $500 worth of TCN Restaurant cards to use which are EFTPOS only). The OnlyOne cards only go on a 10% discount so would be nice to stock up on these at 20%. Otherwise I'll just wait for another discount on the digital cards.

    • +3

I just sent email to them regarding to exchange with digital version.. I will give an update if they reply my email

    • Just so you know you can convert TCN Restaurant Card to digital online at the TCN website to use via mobile wallet. I’ve done it and use it in Apple Pay. Shame the app they have isn’t great but atleast it’s functional.

These can be used at KFC and in the app itself via Apple Pay also. If you have an iPhone that is.

Has anyone managed to add ultimate eats to their apple wallet. It says it can on the pack, the only thing I’m not sure of when I try is what exp date I should put when apple asks

    • +1

I tried adding the card manually on my Google Wallet, and it worked. I think the expiry would be 2029/12.

      • +1

ah yep, 12/29 is the date, i tried lots of combos but thats it!

  • So from reading the above comments on Restaurant Choice, if these can be used at any food/restaurants merchants, then these could be used at any of the merchants listed on Ultimate Eats, so you wouldn't bother buying the latter.

    • -2

except that the latter is 20% off and the former 10%

      • +1

Why would it be only be 10% discount for the former? Does The Restaurant not sell in $50 denominations?

        • Go check in Coles and report back

        • I was able to find both $50 and $100 denominations for restaurant choice gift cards at my local Coles

  • I think bakery they do not accept it. I bought a cake from the french bakery and they do have eat in as well. They did not go through.

    • I’m not overly surprised.

Bakeries is its own MCC (5462), which is not a permitted MCC in the gift card terms and conditions… but I only found out about this difference the hard way…

I once went to a cafe within a bakery with a friend who had one of these Restaurant gift cards. When they attempted to make a payment, the cafe’s EFTPOS machine kept on declining payment. They eventually relented and used a different card to pay for the transaction. However, when they reached out to their bank for the card they successfully used to pay for the transaction, the bank said the MCC of the merchant was 5462 (Bakeries).

I think you can see why I have never purchased one of these MCC-restricted gift cards and refuse to ever purchase one of them…

      • But you've given a + for this deal- so what have you picked up WM? 😉

        • +1

The Celebration gift card, of course lol

Btw, I don’t like MCC-restricted gift cards, but if you are prepared to put up with the weird MCC restrictions and not knowing whether an eligible merchant will do split payments, it’s still a good deal. Just not for me.

  • I cannot see any $50 giftacard in store, not even $100

    • yeah only a few left last night at world square last night when i bought

  • Is there two type of “The Restaurant Choice” cards?
Mine has EFPOS (no online) but their website refers to a Blackhawk Mastercard version??

    • They have a physical and digital version. The former is EFTPOS and from what I've read the latter is a Visa/Mastercard that be used for online orders.

      • +1

older physical cards are eftpos, but newer ones are apparently Visa, which can be used online and added to mobile wallets

        https://restaurantchoice.com.au/Faq

Can Restaurant Choice Gift Cards be used to make purchases online?

Yes, Restaurant Choice Gift Cards can now be used online (please note, the older Restaurant Choice gift cards that have an eftpos logo on the back cannot be used online).

The expiry date & CVV is on the back of the card or on eGift card.

Is the physical Card required to be used at the EFTPOS pin pad to authorise my purchase when using a Restaurant Choice Gift Card?

If you’ve already added your Restaurant Choice Gift Card to your mobile wallet or exchange it for an eGift card, then you will not require your physical card.

  • +1

Got my 10k fly buys points. Restaurant choice worked at a small takeaway store I went to.

    • When did you get your points compared to when you bought it? I bought 2 days ago and still have no bonus points

      • I bought one gift card on Wed around lunch time. On Thurs I tried the GC during lunch time then bought 4 more after lunch, despite not having received the bonus points for Wed. (but if you look below, WookieMonster says you're supposed to get credited at 5pm, and I prob checked before 5pm). On Friday 13th, I noticed all the bonus points (10k) had appeared in my account, which is when I commented above (~5:30pm).

  • What about restaurants that offer table ordering only? I. e. via QR Code? The physical card wouldn't work for that as it is not a Visa/Mastercard?

    • +1

I wouldn’t imagine so because eftpos can’t be used online. Have to swipe the physical card.

      • +1

Yeah went out last night, would not work with QR order. But they were happy to do an in-person order so all good.

  • Do only $100 Celebration Cards starting 4578 2413 still cant be added to Iphone Wallet?

    • +2

I have never had an issue adding any $100 or $200 Celebration gift cards to Apple Pay.

All Celebration gift cards that I have seen have been from August 2021 and June 2022 batches, and they all use the same numbering sequence in the card number.

There were issues reported in the last couple of months in regards to some physical Ultimate Home gift cards not being able to be added to any mobile wallet, but it only affected one type of physical Ultimate Home gift card using a specific numbering sequence in the card number.

  • Has anyone bought the $50 Gourmet Traveller gift card successfully? When trying to scan at the checkout, it says item not found. Not sure if Coles has phased out $50 ones and they were perhaps old stock.

  • Do the 2000 points reflect in the printed receipt or does it appear in the Flybuys app immediately? I bought $50 yesterday and it’s still not in my app

    • +2

I suggest you check the Flybuys app again in about 40 minutes.

Bonus and standard points earned from an instore transaction at Coles are usually credited around 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time on the day after the transaction, although there have been a couple of cases for me in the last couple of months where it took an extra day for the points to be credited to my account.

      • +1

Can confirm, I purchased a card last night and the 2000 points were credited approx 5 minutes ago.

      • +2

Oh cool it’s I see it in my account now, thanks!

      • I bought some on Friday but I still haven't got the points - I'm assuming that's not right? Is there someone to call about this?

        • I would wait until 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time today, as the general guidance from Flybuys is the following:

When will I get my Flybuys points?
Points collected with most of our major retail partners like Bunnings Warehouse, Coles, Coles Express, First Choice Liquor Market, Liquorland, Kmart, Officeworks and Target will be added to your account within 24-48 hours.1 For other partners and for bonus point promotions the time will vary - please check the terms and conditions of the offer.

As I said in the comment you replied to above, it is not highly unusual for points to take longer than a day to be credited to your account:

there have been a couple of cases for me in the last couple of months where it took an extra day for the points to be credited to my account.

If you do not see the points on your account by 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time today, you should next check whether you actually scanned the correct Flybuys card during the transaction and you can see the Flybuys card details on the transaction receipt.

          • If you can see this information on the receipt, I would suggest contacting Flybuys via the online contact form, calling their call centre (and unlike Everyday Rewards call centre staff, Flybuys call centre staff are usually quite helpful in my experience) or social media (e.g. Facebook Messenger). Tell them it has been more than 48 hours since the transaction was completed and take the conversation from there.

          • If you see Sign up now at flybuys.com.au above the long barcode on your transaction receipt, it means a Flybuys card was never scanned in the transaction. You will need to go back to the service desk of the store you purchased the gift cards from with the receipt and the barcode for your Flybuys card, and ask for your Flybuys card to be added to the transaction.

          1. As an aside, the FAQ is slightly misleading, as points from instore Coles transactions are only credited once a day around 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time. That means that the points for some transactions may take a little longer than 48 hours to be credited to your account.

          • @WookieMonster: 2 weeks of back and forth with flybuys later, still haven't received my points. Keep coming up with different excuses like you didn't buy the right gift card - even on a provided screenshot of the receipt. Any way to escalate this? Sick of being given the runaround

            • @Ladideeda: Did you email or call?

              • +1

@Yola: Both - initially called but they wanted emailed screenshots which is fine, but then email team keeps coming up with different rejection emails, and the phone team then say they don't have access to emails

                • @Ladideeda: Sounds painful, but should be easily resolved since you have proof. At least once you email you can just send it over and over without much trouble. I must say whenever I have emailed them I have received the points I was after but it has always been from the 1 or 4-week deals, not very complicated. Usually takes a few days but occasionally 2 weeks. My worst issue was that they credited me the points without emailing me. Luckily I checked before harassing them. Good luck, and be persistent.

  • Hi All. I can confirm the Restaurant Choice physical card works at Maccas. So I believe the physical card is in sync with the MCCs listed.

Advantage: can't be hacked. need keep track of balance and can't use on terminals with no swipe

Disadvantages: need carry card, might not be able to hide from certain vendors, can't tap

But 20% off $50 .. pretty good deal

I can only suggest get the newer issue ones and not the old packaging

    • but you can't use for 20% off Maccas promotion for online order, because this is only restricted for online order and I also really wish that maccas can do multiple payment by cards…at the moment they can do multiple payment by cash and card over the counter only

      • If you got enough on the digital gift card you can add on the app and pay

    • I cant find a $50 Restaurant Choice to get 20% off

      • Look through the $100 bundle, sometimes $50 cards are mixed in.

      • Maybe sold out where you are but it has $50 in the corner

Make sure it says can use Australia wide or 900+ stores accepted

        • Why does it have to say the 900+ stores? I have a couple that says "Accepted Australia wide"

          • +1

@friednoodles88: ok so if you at the bottom right hand corner of the packaging you can see the version date…

            the later the better

reason why I like the ones 2019 is because some of the early versions say at participating stores and the ones after 2019 say 900+ and some say accepted Australia wide

I've had ones many years ago which you could only use at specific stores…. so just suggesting to get the latest version if you can to avoid those old stock that may only work in participating stores instead of MCC places

            • +1

@Poor Ass: i tried the old stock yesterday 01/2019 version for caterers MCC and works, I also went to restaurant a day before it worked as well. I agree that the newest eftpost would be higher chance not to get rejected, but the old one works as good as the new ones…

              • @ivyholmes: nah mate 2019 is not that old

the ones before i cannot say the same…. they are the ones with the bigger text on the numbers

                • @Poor Ass: That's the oldest one that I could get hahaha, actually, I picked them up randomly. these card is nearly sold out in my area

  • Is this special regularly offered by the wollies, coles and IGA?
Or is it once in a blue moon?

    • Fairly often. Search here for past deals.

    • 10% and 15% come around fairly often, 20% is a bit rarer.

      • true…but this one eftpost, unlike TCN that you can swap to digital version easily

        • I haven't been able to swap my TCN Restaurant gift cards to digital… can't add them in the TCN app.

  • will this work with a temporary flybuys card to be registered later?

    • Not sure what you mean but you can open an account online and get a printable card immediately while they post the plastic one to you. The printed card will work to earn points but not to use them.

  • Cafe today had one of those newer square payment machines which would not accept the card, kept asking to read the chip which the card does not have of course, so would not work for me.

  • I got a few of the $50 restaurant choice giftcards For the last 5 days none in store, only a few $100 ones, suddenly $50 ones appeared today. Good I didn’t buy the $100 ones.
