Want to Change Qantas Departure Date. Can Anyone Help Me Get around The Massive Fees?

Hey, I booked 4 tix to Japan at the end of November but selected the wrong dates. I want to fly out 2 days earlier.

I bought them through the QANTAS website. I spoke to them over the phone, and they said to change it to 2 days earlier, it would cost approximately $250 per person to make the change.

Does anyone know of any crafty or hacky ways to get around these fees? I'm happy to pay a little bit of money, but not $1000.

Sorry, I'm not very savvy in this area, but would love any help at all.

Have you tried going to manage booking on the Qantas site and seeing if that tries to charge you too?

Sometimes the admin fee is only if a human does the change for you. You'll have to pay any fare difference though, if applicable.

  • yeah i have mate, it says the same thing. Nearly 1000 dollars :(

      Strange. Their page says:

      Australian International
A$77 fee per passenger per booking

      Then above that it says:

The following Change Booking Fees apply for bookings changed through Qantas Contact Centres, Qantas airport locations, web chat and social media. The below fees are not payable for bookings changed online via qantas.com.

Guessing it's to do with your specific fare type. Non-refundable economy class or such so high change fees.

    About our prices
    Flight out price difference $24.50
    Change Fee $225.00
    TOTAL per adult $249.50
    TOTAL AMOUNT*
    for 2 adults, 2 children

    AUD $986.40

    • Unless you bought a flex ticket, you'll be up for a change fee and the fare difference, so that seems about right…

Are they refundable tickets? Reckon youโ€™ll need to get refund as travel credits and book new flights of thatโ€™s possible.

When did you book? 2 hours ago or 2 months ago? I believe Qantas has a small grace window for mistakes, like a day or so?

    How ?

change it to 2 days earlier.

Unless you missed out on a wedding, just go two days late, if it's a wedding, better lay the $986.40 or it might go higher.

    • Baby due date has been brought forward by 2 days

      • I think that be fine, you get to see 2days old baby and less stress mum, so it wasn't a booking mistake, it just baby decided to come out early, but If you are the dad, better caugh up some money ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™‚

Btw changing dates is a bitch in most airlines for cattle class.

        • but If you are the dad, better caugh up some money ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™‚

Nah, why would you pay $1000 to go watch the equivalent of "your favorite pub being burnt down"?
