Monitor Suggestions for WFH Setup - Budget $500

Hi All,

Seeking a recommendation for a screen to act as a primary monitor for a WFH setup using a Citrix connection, running from a iMac 21.5in. Suspect would use this as the primary screen for work and use the extended display on the iMac for email / reference material only.

Will look to mount the screen on an arm as my wife and I are about 7 inches different in height and both swap rooms depending on the day and work requirements.

I'm not that knowledgeable on screen properties but I would think I am looking for either a 27-28 inch monitor flat or curved or possibly even a 34" ultrawide. IPS sounds better for colours but it won't be used for gaming.

The other option is I pull one of the monitors from our upstairs study (2 x 27", VA screens, 2 curved, 1 flat both about 2 years old, $250 each) and replace one of those screens for something better for gaming as I also like to so some car racing simulator games and iracing

Budget $250-$500 but was aiming around the $300-400 mark. I do like the idea of an ultrawide and I have the space upstairs to make it work without setup but I'm not sure a good screen is in that price point.

Lastly - i have come to really like our curved screen for everyday use (LC27R500FHEXXY) however I very rarely see curved screens mentioned on here. Am I missing something?

I've checked the other posts and whilst similar they have different requirements or price points.

Thanks in advance.

  • Best thing i got for wfh was 38” curved Dell monitor.

    • +1

Best thing I got is two 29" monitors

      • You must have a relatively big desk.

      • I found that was too wide and hurt my eyes

          You can stack them vertically.

  • Best wfh monitor for me is Dell S2722DC (you could go for S2722QC if 4k is required). I bought it for like $331 so a really fantastic deal!

I use it with my 14’ laptop and have had no issue. Adjustable stand, 2k IPS screen, real 8bit, software blue light filter but the warm mode works extremely well at night - very comfortable for my eyes.

    Would highly recommend this model!

  • If it's not for photo/video/design work, and not for gaming/media consumption, then pretty much any monitor would be fine, in my opinion.

  • I love my Dell 32" 4k curved monitor. In Windows, Powertoys make it easy to create zones and snap windows to them, not sure if mac has an alternative.

Have you tried ultrawide and 4k monitors? What I did was go to a JB Hi Fi and tried all of them. For me personally I much preferred the real estate of a 4k monitor over the ultrawides but its a personal thing.

  • Thanks for all the feedback,
Going to look at monitors in store tomorrow or wednesday.

Focusing on a 34in ultrawide as my wife will also be connecting to it with her work laptop at times and allows her to have screen real estate.
No gaming on this, just work productivity so can handle a lower refresh rate for better picture quality / brightness.

Currently comparing the below in the $550-650 range. thoughts appreciated.
    AOC - CU34G2X
    LG - 34WQ75C
    Dell - S3422DWG

  • Add in Dell S3423DWC - Ive just sent an OZB got a $597 price on live chat 5 days ago so its in the target price range.

May end up on an adjustable desk mount (NB F100A? happy with it on my other 27in monitors in other room) to limit risk of knocks or kids pulling it over.
