I bought it for this price on black friday and it has been this price again between then and now.

I can't really compare it to a similar air fryer, as the only other one I've had was the cheapo from woolies that I got for $30.
But it's wonderful. I've already cooked all kinds of foods in it and have yet to have any fails.

    • +3

Can you fill up the basket with french fries like it shows on the picture, and will it actually cook and crisp them?

      • +2

I haven't put chips in it as I'm not a fan of the thickness of the ones in stores near me.
But I've put a lot of tenders and such in there. You do need to make sure you're mixing them up part way through, but if you mix them well, it cooks/crisps stuff well.

      • no.

      • I make French fries all the time. Takes a bit longer than the Kmart air fryer because it has to preheat. But I think it cooks much better. Fries done in 12 min.

      • -1

No. Need to use it like you would an oven.

      • +1

        Yes & without any issue.

I can dump into the tray a complete 900g bag of McCain Steak Cut chips and then 400g of chicken poppers or southern style chicken tenders/strips on top of them & they'll cook to crispy perfection in 15min from just the automatic pre-set "Air Fry" mode. You can adjust both the time and temp of any of the modes of cooking too. So it's completely adjustable to how you want or need it to cook.

The bake and roast modes also work to perfection. Have baked marinated boneless chicken in it & it came out great, same with a whole stuffed chicken that I roasted (was just under a 2kg sized chicken.

For what it's worth, this one (or specifically the US 6-quart version) was the overall winner of the America's Test Kitchen reviews for 2022.

    https://www.americastestkitchen.com/equipment_reviews/2331-a…

    • +2

Also one of the highest rated on American Consumer Reports

    • Legend, thanks for this. This made me pull the trigger. Appreciate the info

    • +1

Quart and L is almost 1:1 conversion so this is the same version.

      • 6 quart = 5.7L so it definitely is!

Video version of the Americas Test Kitchen Review. Extremely helpful & highly recommended watch. Convinced me to buy. Cheers for the tip khadro.

    • +1

Yanks know their fried food. I will trust them on this occasion.

    • +1

Keep in mind what's good for America isn't necessarily good for us. It's because of their 110V with a 1300W or 1700w limitation, we are 240v 2400w. It is the same reason Americans don't have electric kettles, a limitation of wattage makes it too slow, so they have a thermos type thing that keeps water hot and ready when needed. Not to say the 1700W will work worse in Australia, but we have versions closer to 2400W (2200W, maybe 2300W) so work faster

    • You fabulous person!!! Mate, I used this thing twice and it’s already one of my best purchase decisions. Especially at $110, best $110 I spent.

Thanks to both the OP @Deebo Baggins posting and you for pointing to America’s test kitchen (they are the best and always give the best advice, their resting is real world, and includes maintenance advice as well as other aspect of the product). I usually don’t hesitate to buy sth they point to.

      Thank you a much again!

Bought this for $143 on sale so $114 is a great price and it’s a great air fryer.

Heads up, don’t get lazy and try to pour the excess oil out without removing the tray inside (especially while hot) as the tray will fall out no matter how careful you are.
Believe me as I have tried more than once and ended up getting burnt alive by the hot tray and splashed by hot oil. Good times.

    • +1

I have a Ninja one and same thing happened. The plate takes a fair amount of pressure to get in when it's cold, but as soon as it's hot, the silicone feet shrink slightly and it falls straight out. Learnt the hard way.

  • The Auspure Airfryer is pretty good too I've got one and its number 1 on productreview been great so far:

    https://www.productreview.com.au/c/air-fryers

    • I returned my Auspure Airfryer 5.5L.. got it as a 2022 xmas gift.

Ran it for more then 10 hours on max heat over 1 week and washed it 3 times.. also tried cooking food
I just couldn't get the plastic burning smell to go away.. My Sunbeem toaster had the same smell but after running it outside for 1 hour the smell went away.
I'm going to try and buy a Philips air fryer and see if i have better luck with that one… not going to risk it with lesser known brands.

      • +1

I had a bit of that when it was new, there's quite a few plastic coverings you need to remove hidden under the different sections that be would be easy to miss. In any case I don't get that smell apart from the first few uses.

        • oh well.. its back with amazon now :) Apart from the smell it looks good QTY

  • +1

I have this one bought last June - only really use the Airfryer on it but other than it beeps a lot (you can turn off the beeps if needed) it’s been great, easy to use & easier than my old ones prior to clean.

  • +1

Got this but it took a longer time to cook that an old Woolies Mistral 4l air fryer.

  • Also bought this at Black Friday and it has been great. Have only used it maybe a dozen times but can't fault it so far. Easy to clean, easy to operate.

  • -1

Got this for mum. Works well but unlike say the Philips, you can't put the main basket in the dishwasher - only the internal grill tray.

    • I sit difficult to clean the tray?

      • Not at all. After cooking I wait for it to cool down after a few minutes and then put some detergent and hot water in the basket with the tray. Let it soak for a few minutes and then wash/rinse off.

        Easy peasy :)

      • +1
        • that looks good. How does it affect cooking? Air circulation must be affected?

          • @y2k: Circulation is affected, yes. It's more of a close range Fan forced oven. We don't overload our AF & clean up is a breeze. I think the last time I've actually cleaned the metal bits was 1 month ago and we use the AF virtually every day

      • Not even remotely. It takes about 4 seconds to wipe it out with a warm sponge or cloth.

The bottom tray is entirely non-stick and one piece. You literally wipe it once & it's clean.

        • Agree that this works fine if you wipe it straight after use. But if say, you go have dinner ie to eat the contents of your air fryer, some food remnants can dry enough that you will need a bit more elbow grease. Obviously it depends what you cook - less of an issue with frozen fish fingers and fries but def an issue with meat. This happens a lot for us so it's nice to have the dishwasher option.

    • +1

Thanks for mentioning that, I'm considering a 2nd one. Probably a deal breaker for me. I love that I can just chuck the whole basket in the dishwasher.

      • +1

I really dislike the Phillips basket mesh. This one has a small removable insert plate and the rest is much better non-stick than the phillips one.

        • I do like the Instant plate. I guess Phillips would argue a mesh allows for more even cooking as it allows more hot air to pass under. But the Instant plate does have enough gaps that would still allow for a good flow. That said, if you chuck it in the dishwasher, it works fine.

  • I'm looking for a 20 - 30L airfryer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    • What shape?

      • like an oven shape, however open to sugggestions

        • +1

Oh, I thought you were being a smart ass, but they actually exist :)

        • Oven or microwave with air fryer function could be an option.

    • Breville smart oven air fryer or Anova precision oven if you got lots of cash to burn both are great picks

  • I paid this price 2 weeks ago, it’s a great item

  • I’ve had the 2L version for a year or two and can’t fault it. Might have to upgrade..

  • Thanks, have a 1.5L air fryer that has turned out to be too small. Pulled the trigger

  • I considered this one, but ended up getting a Ninja dual pot one. You can cook two different things (different temps and times) and tell the machine to have them finish cooking at the same time.

  • Thanks, good price, time to upgrade the old one. Glad the Phillips was OOS from goodguys last week now!

  • Bought this one for same price in Black Friday. Way much better than the Kogan one.

Multiple preset temperature and time, easy to clean.

    Recommended for great value

  • tried to price match at Harvey Norman (got a gift card that expires in few days), told me it is significantly lower than RRP.

  • How does it compare to Kmart 5.3lt for $89??

  • have been using the exact unit for over 12 months
    very happy with the product
easy to clean and love the chips in the air fryer

totally cuts down on cooking time

    • How easy is it to clean? Can you dishwasher the main basket? Does the heating element (the inside of the air fryer) get dirty over time? Can it be cleaned easily?

      • the element can be cleaned,
I've just been dishwashing the inside grate but I handwash the full bucket.

  • So basically everyone on OZB already has this?

    • +4

      By next week, yes.

  • Had it for over a year! Superb Airfryer - very high quality build at an affordable price. Skip the super cheap ones and get this - you won't regret it.

  • Wasn't looking for an air-fryer but got one. Hopefully gets a lot of use for smaller meals or during summer when its too hot for an oven.

  • It's pretty good. I just wish it was a touch deeper. a whole chook is harder to wrangle in compared to my Kmart one that's ceased production

  • Anyone have the 4l version?

  • Just bit the bullet. Have one of those huge over the top style air fryers that still works but its a bit janky. This looks way better.

  • Timely. We have a Phillips XXL which has been great (not convinced 4-5x greater than a $50 Kmart job though) but it's become all but impossible to clean thanks to baked on grease.

  • I've had this one for over a year now - excellent machine and used frequently. Would like to find some spare parts new tray and rubber feet for it though.

  • +7

One minute you're young and wild, the next you're into air fryers

    • Bingo!

  • Do these air fryers with presets actually do anything different with a preset used? I've got a "Devanti" one which looks pretty similar to this and like most air fryers now has the standard presets. If it just sets the time and temp then I may as well press less buttons (in my case) to do it manually …

  • +1

Any recommendations on suitable accessories (cake pan, dehydrating racks, etc) for use with this?

  • +1

Ahh crap. Bought one. Been wanting an air fryer for ages. The boss keeps saying we don't have any more space in the kitchen… and nothing has changed since then… On the plus side, Amazon won't be delivering until Sunday, so I have two days to come up with an excuse. Any advice?

    • I'm in the same boat - but it's just me so only have to worry about the logistics of having another appliance in a small kitchen!

    • In my case, there was enough room in the kitchen to buy a small table (like this: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/melltorp-table-white-s79246377 ). There was resistance from the boss initially (e.g. "there is no space", "we don't need an air fryer"), but eventually she came around to liking the air fryer, and the extra bench space from the table which now gets used for other things as well.

Ive never bought electrical items from amazon, what is the policy if the item is faulty?

  • They have a used one for $10 less

  • Thanks OP. Got one. Never used an Air Fryer … hope it goes well …

  • Hi all, I bought this as my first airfryer and I am not sure if I have a dud or am doing something wrong. The instruction manual didn't have recipes.

All the below on 205degC and airfry setting, didn't crowd the basket.

    • Frozen chicken nuggs (12) take 20mins to cook
    • 2x Frozen sausage rolls took 20mins
    • Frozen french fries (250g) straight from the freezer took over 40mins to get warm and soggy. Kids cracked it waiting.

Any tips/advice? What should I be expecting for performance/cook times.

    • +1

Hi bjbc, sounds like something is afoot with your unit to me. Frozen sausage rolls take 15 minutes at 180° for me. @200° for that long the pastry is overdone.

Congrats on sourcing french fries, last i heard they were a rare commodity. My understanding is they should be very overcooked after 40 minutes at 205°C

Is your Vortex in °F by any chance?

PS TIL holding Alt and typing 0176 gives you one of these: °

      • The digital display displays temp as 205⁰C, this is the max temp on airfry. Very sure it is in SI units.

On mobile, holding zero gets the degree symbol ⁰. On PC, I am part of the Alt+248 master race.

I would like to thank chest freezer default grocery ordering ahead of the floods for my fries good fortune.

  • Yes i was already pretty sure it was in °C too from your first post but it was all I could think of.

Your times sound outrageous… Send 'er on back!
