  • I have read too many mixed reviews on this one.

    These reviews aren't great:
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2841/philips-dvd-micro-hif…

And yet these sound overly good…

    Anyone with experience of these?

  • Just made it, phew!

40W RMS is pretty daymn good (PMPO is a meaningless number) …

this will be perfect for the games room or out door entertaining area!!

  • So am i able to plug in my Iphone and play music? Really looking for a cheap solid dock.

    • You can use the 3.5mm audio plug.

BTW, the $49 deal is still working today.

  • When will this sale end? Because I want to purchase one mate :)

    • Suppose yesterday but still show $49 now, buy it ASAP.

  • For price, good for a spare music player!

  • good deal !

thanks for the region free info :
Turn on TV,Turn on unit.Select DISC input,Open Tray,9,9,9,9 .Your preset region appears on the screen.
    Select multiregion (0)close tray.Turn off unit.DONE.

  • So with this region free thing, do you have to do it everytime or just a one off thing and your dvd player is unlocked forever?

    • Should one off forever.

      Interesting still show $49 today.

deal is still going! just bought one.

  • I got my Philips DVD Micro HiFi MCD122 at home (VIC). It looks good. Sound quality is good when I watch DVD. I linked it with iphone and mp3 player to link with 3.5mm Male plug, works well. Reasonable sound quality.

But I still cannot figure out how to use with TV when I watch FTA TV.

    • try using a coax cable (digital output)

    • What exactly are you trying to do? If you're looking at outputting sound from your tv to the speakers, you need a pair of composite cables, going from Audio Out on your TV to Aux In on your micro hifi.

      • Thanks for the info. I was about to ask the same question.

      • My TV got only Optical Digital Out, I will need specific cable for that. Anyway thanks.

  • Mine arrived today, very happy for the price, they sound a little hollow without bass boost, but not bad overall. The speakers look really nice, the main part is plastic but ucked away under tv looks fine. For the price I don't think anyone could be disappointed.

  • Did anyone else noticed the speaker looks different in the pictures then what they got.

    • nevermind

  • Finally back to $149.

And I was almost going to buy it too. >.< Oh well.

    • Lol you sound relieved it went to $149

      • It's hard to resist the temptation, isn't it? Welcome to Ozbargain.

      • Hell yeah I'm relieved, I can now spend the $58.95 on penny whistles and moon pie instead.

  • Hi guys,

Its a very good dea and i ordered on last wed 18th around 11pm and still the order status showing "your order is being processed". i paid with delivery fee 58.95

anyone in sydney received their order yet?

      Got both of mine today

    • got mine last week also, kinda disappointed with the display, it's old style LCD, not dot matrix display as shown on DSE and Philips website. Looks like they cheap out on this, shame!

      • How's the sound quality on these dragon?

        • I got mine today. I hook it up to audio out on my blu ray player via AUX input. As far as the sound quality is concern, it creates a surround sound environment (it's loud enough for a normal size living room) but don't expect deep bass as it's lack of a subwoofer. Oh, and it comes with the battery inside the remote which is good. Given the price, I am very happy with it.

        • Reckon a subwoofer can be added to this setup?

        • I don't think so because there is no plug on the unit for an additional speaker. Even if it does, the amp is not powerful enough to handle it.

        • Perhaps, a powered subwoofer which has a receiver built in is the solution. But i have never owned one (only passive) so not sure if it works.

  • sound is alright, good value for $50.

  • I recieved mine today and it seems its dead out of the box, just the blue standby light no response to remote or power button, i reckon i might have recieved one of the melons of the batch. Anyone seen this with his unit.

  • I am having an issue with mine which I don't know if it is my setup or by design. Any devices I have plugged in via RCA (AUX) seem to have a very short delay before the sound starts (as if the sound has "broken off") - And this delay occurs every time there is silence in the audio.

I noticed it when testing with my PS3, as the short navigation "click" wasn't being played on the stereo.

Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

    • So yours powered on alright bcoz mine is just stuck at the blue standby light

      • Yeah powered on OK and all is operating fine (besides my described annoyance)!

        • It was a melon returned it to the sunshine dse store and had it exchanged for another one i am impressed really worth the money :) I will try to recreate your issue but i am guessing thats just an issue with the firmware. Thanks really happy now

        • Good news! I would appreciate if you tried (it would help me work out if I am going nuts or not)! :P

It does have great sound for a unit of its size!

        • I've just also experienced the issue while playing a dvd in my ps3, some classic movie and the unit kept on acting the same way, sound breaking off at every silence in the movie and even losing some parts of the dialogue due to the delay. So definitely you are not going nuts it seems to be a problem with the software or something of the sort.

        • it could be PS3 issues not the micro system's issue as I connect it to a blu ray player which works very smoothly.

        • I have connected a variety of devices (PS3, TV, PC, etc) and they all suffer the same issue.

It is not present while playing a constant audio stream so it might not be apparent when playing music / watching a video. But maybe your BR player is doing something different…

          @segaxavier

At least I am not going mad! :P If I find a solution I will post it here - but I am pretty much out of ideas (I will check if there is a firmware upgrade when I get a chance)!

  • noticed this also, have it connected to a PC via Aux, easily reproduced by running the windows speaker test sounds (the chiming sounds start with left and then right speaker). Run once with a song in the back ground and once without any background sound, some of the beginning test sound for the left speaker is lost in the latter case.
Does DSE give full refund including shipping cost if we return it?

  • great unit, got mine last week, love it, thanks OP

  • Have set this up with tv audio out through aux in, and xbox 360 sound through mp3 link using rca to stereo cables…video for xbox is hdmi direct to tv. Has played all divx files from imation 16gb usb. Sound quality is pretty good. Overall a great little unit for the price. Can easily be region hacked too for any dvd playback (open tray, press 9 9 9 9, select 0.. Done)

  • Received mine today, delay was caused by redirecting courier to a different address.
