  • Can I link an IPTV subscription to the Fetch box?

  • free to air TV lol, I dont like ads…

  • There is so many apps on any Android Boxes and you could also buy a USB TV Tuner and add the PVR capabilities to a much more powerful platform than utilizing Fetch.

Brand New 4k Mini is also $49 on sale! (follow the 'continue shopping' link)

    • It's not a bad little device esp how you can link it to the Mighty and watch recordings through your local network

  • Anyone with one of these know if you can skip the ads of recorded content with one button touch (like Panasonic PVR's) or have to hold down FF button?

    • have to hold down FF button or do 5min skip.
Have a Panasonic PVR ($10 from old Dick Smith sale) - but is about to die after years of use. Much better for skipping & watching recordings @1.4x with sound.

    • You can skip forward or backwards in 5 minute increments (can't be changed).

    • FYI The FF is up to 32x and when at max will backtrack slightly when you press play

What is the best way to use this for those of us who don't own a television?

    • Do you have a monitor with an HDMI input? If so, you can plug the Fetch Mighty into that.

    • +2

      door stop?

  • Do these work with Kayo?

  • +1

Good price, I paid $179 for mine and was happy at that price.
It's very easy to record complete series from FTA or pay TV packs (some of the same content as Fuxtel but only $6 per pack unlike Fuxtel).
You can manually fast forward through ads on any show you have recorded to HDD but not through ads on catchup apps like SBS.

It doesn't come without drawbacks, the UI is very slow and the remote control is hit and miss when compared to Android TV based boxes.

I wouldn't get this if all you want to do is watch streaming services like Netflix/Prime/Apple TV/etc, get a FireTV 4k (Max), it's much better at that for about the same or less coin when on sale.

Its very misleading to show a picture of the current model of the Fetch Mighty 4K when that isnt what is being sold here.

The only indicator is the original price to reduced price. $199 to $79
Current model is a ridiculous $449

    • +1

This model outputs @4k, but is not the latest 4K model.
Automatically adjusts resolution - in my case is set itself to 4k, or can set to 4k.

    • +3

Its very misleading to show a picture of the current model of the Fetch Mighty 4K when that isnt what is being sold here.

I think a mod will need to fix this by tagging the correct product (Fetch Mighty M616T - Gen 3) instead of Fetch Mighty M681T - Gen 4.

      /cc @iguana

    • +1

The picture being displayed on OzBargain is the same image that is being displayed on the Fetch buy link page. Unfortunately, I am not able to change the image.

Re: the model number. I have amended the tag so that it specifically specifies the correct model number. Fetch Mighty M616T - Gen 3 / Fetch Mighty M616T

      • Sorry this wasnt an attack on the OP. Its just really bad behaviour that Fetch dont list the specific model number and then cant use a stock photo of the actual unit being sold. Thats up to fetch to be way more transparent about whats being sold. Model number should be mandatory if two products carry the same name yet have different hardware.

Is this legit as there is no store when going through the Fetch website and we all know you can get a similar domain and emulate something looking legit.?

    • +1

Bought Mighty from this site last year.
      Was delivered free & quickly.

      • remember we also got another remote too :)

        • Yes. Those who bought later only received the better Bluetooth voice activated remote - meant to be sold with this model. Ours was received a few weeks after purchase .

Found the original remote tonight. Wondered what it was! Wouldn't want to go back to it.

  • This is really good price for a fetch mighty!

I had one for many years, but eventually sold it since the channels I subscribed too I could get on Binge or Kayo. And eventually I didn't see any value in recording FTA.

One thing I really hated about the fetch is it didn't support HDMI-CEC so you're stuck using their remote or a universal remote. And it doesn't power on/off automatically with your TV when you switch to its hdmi input on the tv.

    • +1

Supports HDMI-CEC. I can control this box via HDMI-CEC, via the TV remote.

Or use the Fetch remote to turn the TV on without HDMI-CEC (universal remote set up in Fetch)

Supplied Bluetooth remote has voice control.
And Fetch can be controlled by phone app.

      • When did you get your fetch? I got my fetch like 5 years ago, and been monitoring HDMI-CEC with the newer gen fetch mightys over the years since. It never had CEC unless something changed very recently.
        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3q6lyvy9?p=697#r71102…

Aware of the fetch remote to control tv, but when you get a newish tv, you kinda rather use the bluetooth remote tv's come with. Which for me replaced my need for a harmony hub to control my AV equipment.

        • Arrived 3 months ago
          build date: 27/6/22
          So after that whirlpool.

Surprised me. Didn't have any HDMI-CEC gear attached to Samsung TV.

Was set up when TV detected Fetch. Asked if I wanted to use TV Remote to control Fetch.

Unplugged HDMI cable. TV Remote stopped controlling Fetch & Fetch stopped controlling TV.

The first remote supplied (non Bluetooth) never worked as a universal remote for TV, so it wasn't controlling TV. Fetch supplied the Bluetooth remote weeks later. Works so much better.

Have very simple set up of TV + Fetch Mighty in Bedroom. I found having 2 remotes which could do same task was confusing & added no real functionality for my use. So disabled it.

My Harmonys are gathering dust now.
Added other remote options for others info.

          • @INFIDEL: (Only disconnected HDMI cable to confirm control was through the HDMI. ie HDMI-CEC Then reconnected.)

  • LOL. Didn't take long for someone to get 10 units up on Ebay for a quick buck………. They better hope they receive the model they have listed though…………..

  • So for the FTA channels is it using an RF antenna? I checked listing and only said HDMI and network cable.

    • +1

Yes, over the air FTA comes through using a regular RF PAL antenna connection. The box has an HDMI output to your TV. Internet is through Wi-Fi and ethernet.

    • I checked listing and only said HDMI and network cable.

That is - it is supplied with HDMI and network cables. That's what I received.
You need to supply the RF antenna cable.

  • Does this stream Optus sport in 1080, whereas the tv app is limited to 720?

  • I see they finally have a Plex app. That makes this a pretty good deal if you don't have an alternative

  • I think these are great if you have an older non-smart TV. I bought a refurb when it was $99. It's not completely seamless and there's a few quibbles I have with it but it adds alot of functionality to the existing tv.

It would have been nice if the listing actually mentioned the model number. Also a bit curious that it doesn't mention a remote but perhaps just an oversight.

    • I think these are great if you have an older non-smart TV.

I'd just get a Google TV in that case for $49.

      • No 1TB for recording?

      • +1

As far as I'm aware, the chromecast Google TV can't record anything and doesn't have any FTA tuners which, for me, is the main drawcard of FetchTV. I quite like just being able to leave the tv on HDMI mode and use the fetch interface for everything - TV guide, catch-up, the major streaming apps and optional paytv channels.

I thought the expandable storage for Google TV was more for apps and media - not for recording programs. I would hate to always have to stream FTA channels. Google TV looks better if you purely want to stream everything and have access to the thousands of apps not available on Fetch.

Also, the fact that the Mighty is 4K means that if and when I get a new 4K TV, I can take advantage of that feature. The 4K version of Google TV is $99.

        • This Mighty outputs in 4K, but isnt the 4k model.

    • Model number is shown in Tag & mentioned in comments.

Bought same model (as you did) few months ago.
Box can't be set up or operate without the remote!
Came with latest Bluetooth voice activated remote.

Looks to be sold out: "The product 'Fetch Mighty (Refurbished)' is already sold out."

    • +1

      Has been Ozbargained …

  • +2

Please update the title , shows sold out!

  • Quick question for existing users, when I set something to record, do I have to keep the unit on? or can I leave it on standbye (red led) and it will still record?

Really enjoying my unit from the $99 deal, for that money even for the odd FTA recording its worth it, can record entire series of docos or dramas too with simple selection. Recorded all the world cup games for convenient watching.

    • +1

Standby is fine but in reality it's still on and as per my note below, Standby power doesn't really save power if that is your concern?

  • +3

Late to the party but will note it in case anyone here hate power guzzling devices. FetchTV boxes use approx 16W (even in standby which is the silly part).

    • +1

That's likely the HDD soaking up most of that power.

    • can confirm when i had one it was something like that. I was actually trying to setup some home assistant automations based on if the fetch was in standby or not by using power consumption readings from a kasa smart plug. I struggled to differentiate between an on and off state this way because it was almost exactly the same.

      • Power meters (& likely smart plugs that record consumption) are not accurate at very low power consumption like this. Much better with appliances.

Readings produced are not likely to be accurate. Manual for my Mains Power Meters warns about this limitation.

Most accurate power consumption is to measure current from 12V power supply entering box using a suitable meter.
Can be done by wiring appropriate low voltage socket & plug in series with a multimeter. Plug 12V power supply into socket, & plug into Fetch & measure current. (Use a similar set up for measuring USB consumption.)

    • How did you measure the power consumption?

      • A simple Watt Meter is sufficient for checking these types of devices.

        • As I've said above & before - they are inaccurate at measuring such low power consumption like this. You can't trust the readings.

I have taken measurements on this box - with 3 Power Meters (including the one you linked), all measured only a few Watts. You pointed out that was far too low in a previous Deal!

          • @INFIDEL: I disagree. I have cross checked these types of meters with highend gear and they are plenty accurate enough and well within +/-0.2w across 16watts. In turn fantastic for those looking to get a estimate live reading of power use. Note the word estimate.

As you own a fetch box, can you test power consumption with your method and report back what you get?

          • @INFIDEL: Far too low watt wise in previous deal, yes. You commented that they go into standby and use only a few watts (like you are noting above)
You changed your mind and then deleted our discussion thread here but you did nicely pop back here noting your error.

What's changed now on your side as my point stands i.e. they do not only use a few watts and closer would range from 14.5w up to as much as 16w in standby, it varies depending what it’s up to?

            • @Borg: Yes I deleted those incorrect measurements. Although the multiple readings were consistent over 2 days on 2 Power Meters, obviously they were too low to be accurate, as you commented.

(Had multiple Power Meters as used to loan them out to teach people about their power consumption. No longer use for low power consumption readings.)

Pointed out that is a trap of assuming the meters work accurately at low power consumption. Plenty of warnings about that. The manual for the meters showed they are not that accurate at this level of consumption.

There is a similar discussion on Whirlpool

              • @INFIDEL: Not much of a discussion there and only one person commented about meters. They also noted "Leave it on and the HDD shuts down into standby when not in use" which is incorrect and the reason it uses so much power in standby.

Anyhow, each to their own and personally happy with the watt meters being accurate enough as a power consumption guide. They aren't good for tiny amounts e.g. for getting accurate long term data on devices that run at say only a watt or two. They are however good enough to let you know that only a watt or two is being used if that makes sense.

    • Fetch states power consumption is Up to 20W

      So 16W seems correct👍
But very high for an appliance on 24/7 (0.4KWh/d)!!

  • Missed it - you win some, you lose some.

    • Might be back. $99 Fetch Mighty Deal popped up more than once.

  • IPTV is great .. except for FTA fetch is better.. anyone on IPTV with EPG able to record while watching one FTA channel ? If FTA was not popular there would not have been so many comments… I personally do not watch FTA but have a lot of famly on it ..thanks to OP as usual has been missing so thanks OP …I wish I had seen it on time …excellent post bud

These boxes are so old now. So you could be buying refurbished 7 year old hardware.

    • Discussed in 2nd comment… & in the previous Deals.

Mine was brand new in sealed box.
      Build Date: 27/6/22

Only promoted as "refurbished", to explain very low clearance price. They have so many of Gen3 model, now 4k Gen4 is available.

Was first promoted to those owning Gen2 boxes to upgrade to Gen3 model for $99.

Original price of this model was $449
JB sold these "refurbished" for $199, so a bargain.

  • Thanks OP. Just missed out on this one for the family. Happy to pay $80 pickup for anyone that has second thoughts in Sydney.

  • How does fetch tv compare to abc iview?

    • +2

ABC iView is ABC's online cloud streaming app so nothing to compare.

FetchTV is a PVR for recording live TV channels. It does have the iView app however you'd be better off with the likes of a Google Chromecast TV dongle if all you are looking for are Cloud TV channels.

  • +2

mine arrived today, looks like a brand new box, unit, remote, not a scratch

  • and I dont mean the new model
