    But is it a bargain….

    • +1

If you really want a bargain, basically anything with 100+ upvotes is a true bargain hehe

  • will it be $999 later?

  • +4

Samsung can keep their Fail 3.

Samsung is trying to stop all import of small screens into the US to shut down 3rd party repair. Here's the short so you don't sit through (or rather not bother to sit through) Louis Rossman ranting about it for half an hour.

I have the Z flip 3 and the screen protector blisters in the middle after a few months. They want $35 to replace it and although it's under warranty it's not part of it. If you decide to remove the cover and DIY, they won't cover the warranty. So basically, it's a serviceable item every few months requires replacement. First time is free until 1 yo. Apple is my next phone

      • +1

doesnt samsung also makes apple's screens?

        • -1

Regardless, no more flip flop fone for me. They all sleep with each other and call themselves rivals lol

        • -1

It’s apples IP and design and samsung manufactures it in their facility. People keep saying this like Samsung developed and designed the screen which is a no. It’s like saying my Epson printer wrote my 100 page PHD thesis when all the printer did was print it out

          • +1

@ComputersCommode: Apple designs the phone overall, and their CPU. Their screens really are just Samsung units.

A lot of other brands use Samsung screens, usually the older models go into cheap Chinese phones. It doesn't make them Samsung phones, or even as good as Samsung phones either.

Folding screens aren't ready for mainstream use. That's the difference between Samsung and Apple, Apple wouldn't make this phone

      • +2

The Flip3 and Fold3 have a one-time free screen protector replacement in the event YOU damage it.

They have a full warranty for the screen protector if it's defective (ie. cracks/bubbles at the crease).

The only time they won't cover it under warranty is:
"Cracks found on the Ultra Thin Glass where the screens folds in the centre are covered under warranty unless there are other damages such as puncture marks and cracks elsewhere on the display."

So, it sounds like you either had other damage on your screen, or you spoke to someone clueless at Samsung.

        • Samsung fob users off as they don't want to honour warranty over their defects. Google reveals many users complaining about the middle screen crease issue interpreted as 'impact damage' considering no bleeding or physical damage on screen. However they like to inconvenience the customer of repeat bookings to their plastic customer service centre to eventually honor warranty. I'm at another cycle of rejection where I'll get honored again when escalated. Lucky i have another shit box temporary Samsung when i hand over my flip flip fone for another session of inconvenience

      • Why do you need a screen protector if it protects itself by folding inwards?

        • +1

The protector creates an air pocket in the middle of the screen eventually due to flip action. Then it spreads and creates a crease and bubble. Mind you second time after a replacement screen. Great innovation however but not there yet. We are the beta testers for the next gen

      • Apple is my next phone

Apple isn't for everyone though. If you don't like the idea of being a guinea pig for an experimental product, just go for one of the Samsung S-Series phones. S23 is just around the corner :)

I've purchased a second hand apple iPhone X without a receipt off a seller on Gumtree a few years ago; obviously out of warranty. Developed a issue with the burn in OLED screen, mic & hearing issues from the internal ear speaker. Called Apple and replaced it in the spot. No bull shit rejections like Samsung. Gave it to the missus. My next phone is Apple. PS. Well versed on both platforms

          • +1

@vinni9284: Yup I've had some excellent experiences with Apple too. I own a mix of Windows/Mac & iOS/Android so I get to try out both sides. I was in the same situation as you many years ago with an iPhone 6 and had the same experience. Was given a replacement on the spot even though the phone was out of warranty. Was truly incredible considering the price I paid for the phone. In hindsight, was a very risky purchase, but worked out well, and secured another Apple user :)

            • @Zackeroo: Yes. Good to hear a similar story. I am at the stage of inconvenience of another rejection & travelling to their Samsung service centre where eventually I would be exonerated & get it repaired for free from another warranty escalation. They hope their customers get tired of the logistics and effort required to repair their factory defects. For the people that neg and don't agree, please purchase a flip flop fold and see for yourself.

    • I bought mine from mobileciti, I found out about this issue too.. I haven’t opened the box and I returned it today for a full refund. (profanity) THAT. I’m getting an iPad mini 6 or 7!

    Price is $1499 not $1248.

You better read the deal again. Hint: coupon.

      • Oops got it

Friend bought one of these Samsung folding phones, hasn't had it long and its already cracked where it folds! Looked it up and it's not uncommon at all.

  • I really like the concept of these phones. I'm stuck in the Apple ecosystem, but with rumours that the new iphones will be even more expensive I think I should be looking at other options. My eyesight isn't as great as it used to be, so I like the concept of the bigger screens on these.
But have they got to the stage where this could be a daily driver that can last a couple of years?

    • +1

Get a good second hand one that's half way through warranty.

      • gumtree shows they are all >$1000 second hand for the 256GB one anyway :(

        • What model?

    • +2

Depends on your definition for "a couple of years". If it's 3 years, which is also the duration of Samsung phone android system update then it's doing great (ofc you will always find topics said that this one that one cracked, broken blah blah after months, but we are using a large sample). Another checkpoint is 5 years, this is where security patches stop update. Beyond this point I think it's good to buy a new phone regardless of its condition, since 5 years is enough for significant technology upgrade. Personally I have a samsung s8 which is around 5 years old right now, except for the burning image screen and need to replace battery, it's still running ok. And Samsung flagship after the S20 is a lot better than the previous generations.

Samsung is life a Ferrari. Attractive, fast and need another spare when it breaks down.

        • +1

Uhmm Samsung sell the cheapest phone tier to the top tier one. I don't remember Ferrari have any "affordable" one for normal consumers.

      • I usually replace a phone after 2 years. I skipped the iphone 14 (I have a 12) because I figured USB-C was coming in the 15, so thought I'd wait another year. Now with talk that they are going to be even more expensive, it's hard to justify around $2K for a phone. So yeah, 3 years is probably fine for me. The hardest part is how far I'm sunk into the Apple ecosystem (find my for airtags, family members, imessage, apple music, icloud storage, macbook pro etc) makes it a harder choice.

  • That's pretty cool OP that your name is in the coupon code

  • you can get this form ebay with 24 months warranty for $939 256 GB version. they are refurbished though.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p238005…

    • I bought a refurb Fold 2 from MobileFederation over a year ago. It came in fantastic condition, I'm typing on it right now.

      • How the folding screen protector holding up?

        • Strangely it's adhered better with age. When I first got it, it would keep peeling in the middle of the fold, but I kept being too lazy to replace it and just pushed it down every time. To my surprise, it's actually stopped doing that and now just stuck down 100% permanently after annoying me for like a year.

          • @akaakmdm: Interesting. Looking to move to a secondhand z fold series once my s22 ultra software update is no more.

  • Just hold, was 1299 like two days ago

  • When are we going to see CLEARFLIP coupon?

  • Yeah I also am loving my fold 3 refurb from eBay. I'm actually using my laptop less, it's getting mothballed like my desktop I barely use.

Speck presidio case for $30 on eBay and enamel popsocket for $25. Done deal.
