Isn't this just a bit of racial stereotypes. Equating Japanese culture with Chinese New Year. "all those yellow face, they are just the same". Welcome to 1950.

    • +2

Nah, im obsessed with both, and the two cultures really do borrow a LOT from each other; so far back that it'd be hard to argue whos it was first.

Ive seen 7/11 celebrate CNY and countless other stores.

It's called "bento" in Japanese, because of the chinese word Biandang.
Not many people would recognise that term though, so I understand why the store chose 'bento'.

No need to try and create racial tension where there need be none.

Its CNY, lets celebrate, with what? Bento! (Or, if you prefer, Biandang lunch).

    • What? thats a bit of a stretch

They didn't equate the two. Though I can understand it could appear that way.
CNY (in non chinese communities) is just an excuse for people to discount things, like st patricks day, easter, Christmas, Halloween, blackfriday/cybermonday etc etc

Funnily enough the word Bento (弁当) originates from Chinese slang (便当) during the song dynasty. In modern Mainland China its still spelled the original way ( 便當 )

I read CNY and saw CNY in the code and saw all the cat stuff and my half asleep brain went: "there's a Cat New Year's?"

      You'd enjoy 'Fruits Basket'.

If you are a Vietnamese, yes the coming Lunar New Year is a Cat's year.

55 bucks is a bit steep for just a few things in the box. Could prob grab similar items from Ali for less than 5 bucks…

    Very expensive.

Kmart have the sushi for a couple dollars and Daiso sell almost identical hats for a couple dollars as well.

    • They dont sell those anymore / currently at Kmart. I regretted not getting one. But because you posted this i noticed a used (seems just opened) one for sale today! So thank you.

  • Just bought one for my 3 fur babies!

    Hoping it comes before CNY!
