  • What's the benefit of posting deals for the poster?

dont see anything wrong with that.
      thanks for the post though.

      According to Urban Dictionary:

      benefits
sexual relations, sexual gratification, and otherwise sexual contact as in 'friends with benefits have sex, whereas 'friends without benefits' do not

These prices shows USB 2.0 is out and 3.0 is in. Why bother buying a large 2.0 drive for the same price.

  • +1

70MB/s read and 40MB/s write is probably unbeatably good for the price.

    • What's Kogan's policy if the drives doesn't deliver those speeds?
I mean we are just taking their word for the speeds as without brand, there is no independent tests out there which can confirm the speeds.

      • +1

Not worth the hassle of dealing with Kogan if the drive fails, I would pay extra for a brand name and it's kinda ugly too

Hoff doesn't love the Hassle??!! :D

        • +2

"Hoff doesn't love the Hassle??!! :D"

That kind of line deserves to go straight to the pool room…
          :)

  • USB 3.0 drives are just slower in USB 2.0 ports right?

    • yep

    • +1

Yes but they will max the USB 2.0 speeds. I have a Corsair 16GB USB 3.0 rated close to these speeds. In USB 2.0 it's slower (obviously) but is still the fastest USB 2.0 device I've ever used.

  • Could this be used to run an os? Or would it get killed quickly?

    • +5

with a little hassle yes, but just get cheapest 64GB SSD for like $80. It will be much better/fater/reliable than this…

  • -7

    70MB/s read and 40MB/s …

these are max sequential, on a blank disk rates,.. its ok, but nothing great, esp the whole point of usb is being portable,.. how many people you know have usb 3?

also, usb 2 is 60MB/s so your payin for a 10MB that you wont ever really use

    • +1

Which USB 2.0 flash drives have read speeds over 30MB/s? Even the Patriot quad-channels max out at 27MB/s.

    • +1

No USB 2.0 device is capable of 60MB/s

  • Kogan must be pushing these hard I got the email twice lol

    • Yep, he'll probably gets his mug on ACA / Today Tonight again to promote it too

  • can it be formatted into NTFS? for files larger than 4gb

    • +1

Every other flash drive i have every come across could, so I imagine this will be no different. You could even format it with exFAT if you wanted Windows / OS X compatibility.

    • +1

DOS 'convert' command usually works on the off-chance that formatting to NTFS fails (changing drive property to 'optimise for performance' or using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool also usually succeed). exFAT is not a bad choice for compatibility with Vista/Windows 7 and OSX out of the box too (although not as robust as NTFS but this is a flash drive after all). Not great compatibility with media devices though.

Use the code INFINITE to get it for $47.77 (a whopping 74cent saving >:D)

      KGNCOOP5 for a saving of $2.45

      • Thanks mate - I have updated the thread

  • Been looking for a usb 3.0 drive for a while, this might be the go for me, not the fastest speeds but can't ignore it at that price…

Never dealt with Kogan before, can anyone tell me what their delivery times are like? Its not coming directly from HK or China like their apple stuff is it? I want to get it but not if I'm gonna to have to wait a few weeks…

    • +1

I bought a HD Set-top box a while ago and the delivery was super fast (2 days via Toll or Air Express. Not sure about current delivery time…

      • sweet, might give his one a shot then, hopefully it produces speeds as promise otherwise no more Kogan for me ;)

  • Are USB sticks still terribly unreliable?

    • i've never had problems with my usb sticks…

I've been using this 4GB usb2.0 stick i got from officeworks for $7-8 everyday and its been fine

      • +2

everyday? you must have alot of them by now then ;)

        • LOL…me grammer is no good yeah?

    • I think they became a lot more reliable on Windows at least when the Windows default changed to 'optimise for quick removal' and turned off write-caching.

  • I am still happy with my 64gb USB 2.0 one I purchased for $31 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72591)! Is it worth $15 for the jump from 2.0 to 3.0?

    • i bought that one.. i think i will buy this one

      but…

"Warehouse sold out at 2:13pm Wednesday 18th July Now taking orders for 3rd August dispatch – Selling Fast!"

    • Really depends wether you use the full amount of the drive or just some of it

      • Picked one up, might end up giving my mum my 32GB and using this one for myself.

  • Here's one to consider if you're after speed:-
    http://www.minitake.com/product/%28supersspeed%29-usb-30-16g…
    SuperSSpeed USB 3.0 stick (16GB)
Not the cheapest but very fast and I've found it to be completely reliable (I've had it for nearly a year)

    • Damn! Are those speeds real??!
Too bad I already ordered the Kogan one. With those performance specs I'd think the SuperSSpeed USB 3.0 stick is pretty close to the cheapest for what you get.

      • Am I the only one who thinks that looks like a scam?

These are max values anyway NOT average speed values, very misleading.

        Write Speed (max): 166MB / s
        Read Speed (max): 164MB /s

      • Here is a "makeshift" benchmark I did of the SuperSSpeed USB 3.0 stick plus a couple of photos of the original packaging:-
        http://imgur.com/a/zWw9o

Read speed 116MB/s and write speed 60.6MB/s using H2testw

It can surely go faster but I tested through a USB 3.0 HUB (bottleneck?), and also only the last 5GB free space was tested rather than the entire volume, since I had stuff already on it and the drive must be fragmented as well…

btw this is the "Gold SLC" variant, I bought mine in a physical shop in HK and paid HK350. They also sell a "Silver MLC" one which is slower. Here is the range:- http://www.price.com.hk/category.php?c=100049&brand=Superssp…

This company also make SSDs - it seems their 120GB blitzed the competition:-

      • you can get 32gb/64gb sandisk extreme usb3 drives for $40/$70 off ebay that outperform this.

        crystaldisk mark: 197mb/177mb (64gb)

        • now i feel like a noob lol, my fault for only looking at what msy has in stock i guess…

  • +2

Guys who are buying this, please report back with your write speeds, and preferably a crystaldisk benchmark :)

  • Sick price for a 64gb USB 3.0 … really really sick.

Doesn't even matter if it is a tad slower or faster, it is still the cheapest ever seen USB 3.0 64gb stick anywhere in the whole world.

  • Anyone got theirs shipped yet? my estimated shipping date was yesterday…its now the 20th…is this lateness the norm for Kogan?

  • I received mine yesterday. Havent got a usb 3 port to test with yet.

Only gripe atm is that the lid has nowhere to go when in use. Mine cant fit at the back of the stick.

Other than that, it works and has large capacity. I'm happy with it for now till i test it with a usb 3 capable machine

    • I've noticed the page has a different design now. Did you get that one or the original design they had?

      • New model looks nice. I got the old plain model…

        • I wonder if people who ordered after they they moved stock shipping to August will get the new model or the old model and I also wonder if speed wise they will have any difference.

  • Delivery is no longer free? :(

  • It seemed to accept the KGNCOOP5 code, but no discount was applied.
