        • I was half joking with CEO (and companies) :P - But, he is still the owner of the company though. If this was from one of his employees, It would be silly/stupid but more understandable.

Agreed with the Doctor's shiny headphones :D

        • its actually a partnership, not a company. :P

        • Silly you :P

        • Fully agree with koreaninhyuk's comments too. It's gone from bad to worse, and while I was seriously considering purchasing a drive, my attention has been turned to any of the numerous SSD deals posted in the same day.

        • +10

I don't condone Rhys' behaviour here; but honestly, look at some of the whinging going on here over bloody nothing!!! The guy's only human, FFS OzBargain grow up! :S

I've seen nothing here that would dissuade me from purchasing from Phaser…some of you guys ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

        • +5

Yeah, it's surprising. It's not like they're the only one passing the paypal fee along - a large number of online stores do. That's just the nature of a business with thin margins. If the overall price is cheaper than elsewhere, it's still a good deal.

        • +2

On the flip side Stewie, (at the time of this comment) this deal has not received a single neg in spite of the fracas.

          Remarkable!

        • It's a good deal, isn't it?

        • I think someone negged earlier, but it was removed.

        • +1

That's not the point eug. ozBargainers in the past have negged deals for reasons other than the merit of the deal.

        • +1

Are you implying DR. Dre is not a real doctor!

        • +5

Honestly, I understand Rhys' stance on the paypal matter AND it is a great deal for this SSD. Thats why his behaviour in the comment section is so odd because he has done so much to attract his customers but he is driving (some of) them away with his reactions to comments that could have been ignored.

This guy is only human, but he isn't a just another OzBargainer here, he is a representative of his comparny (or partnership :P) selling products for profit. I'm just wishing that he could learn from this experience so that he can sell to more people for higher profit and his customers can get a good bargain too. Win-Win situation.

        • oh boy you fail business 101

        • Managing Director of a Partnership. Lol. Is your mate the Chief Technical Officer? you make me laugh.

    • +1

Wow, I'm curious to what you said to get this response, although it is still very unprofessional.

      • +1

It was provoking and he said BAM after it. along the lines of reporting me to paypal etc

      • -5

I emailed him with "Reported you to paypal. BAM"

        • +1

Prepare yourself for extensive active participation in the investigation bro, you've cracked the case wide open!

You've seen the gusto with which they pursue serious claims, let alone frivolous & vexatious ones…I'm sure Paypal are circling their wagons even as we speak… :p

        • +5

I emailed him with "Reported you to paypal. BAM"

Did it make you feel empowered?

        • +2

Totally. It took under a minute to report him, there was no reason not to. Businesses are supposed to following rules, even if the rules don't make sense. If they agree to it, they should follow it.

Unless you're Rhys, then you just laugh at it and do it anyway, then post private email details on a public comment page.

The content of my email was unimportant, he is the businessman- he is supposed to handle it with maturity. It's what is expected.

        • +1

You must have been fun in school. :)

        • -1

Correction eug, s/he must be fun in school! ;)

      • +1

        Phasers were set to 'stun'?

        • +3

Nah, sounds more like they were set to BAM!!! ;)

  • +6

man, this merchant is a child. Stay away.

    • -4

      giggles

      • what. Do you have my address to? Or do you just issue veiled threats in a public forum?

        • Forgive me, but I'm having a major WTF moment here??? Where are you saying Rhys threatened you? Are we talking about a stealth edit that I missed or something?

        • -1

not me. sheeesh. he reminded Azkay that he 'had his address' on page 1 mod removed it. Read below the removal on page 1. Wow.

        • +1

Right, got it…I saw that, IIRC that wasn't the exact wording…more like he was gonna send him a present or something…pretty innocuous IYAM.

You do seem to be getting a little precious then, particularly over someone else's issue dude!

        • unprofessionalism from this merchant was not first called by me in this thread. You seemed to require clarification.

Personally I have never seen such childish behaviour from a merchant here.

Other deals have since way exceeded this offer for bargain value anyway.

Back to STTNG = far more entertaining.

        • Well, TBH frankly I've rarely seen such childish behaviour from OzB'ers too, so it all works out even IMHO!

+1 for STTNG…-1 for not ceasing communications with BAM! ;)

        • BAM?

        • It's a little ironic given the reasons for your input that you don't get the reference??? Look back in the thread for context…then you'll get the joke, you'll laugh I gah-ron-tee! :)

        • ironic.

true, but merchants here are held to higher standards than us 'trolls'. Speaking for myself anyway.

          Nighty Night Stewie. ;)

        • merchants are held to higher standards than us

True dat! Nites to you too dude! :)

  • +2

This is great fun! +1 to OP

  • +5

Anybody who is getting their panties in a knot regarding OP's behaviour obviously has not gone to Fluidtek.
+1 for OP because of the lulz.

    • +3

dont know about fluidtek, but the guys in MSY Auburn store were a bunch of A*Holes. (i guess they are doing much better now. at least the ones in Ultimo are ok).

      • +1

Holy crap Auburn must've been bad…I always thought Ultimo were tools! :o

        • +1

Ultimo guys have improved for sure. I went there a week ago for a new Hard Drive. They were happy enough.
But I agree, I have gone there in the past and they've been the most pissed off guys on the planet.

  • how does this compare to intel or corsair ?

    • +14

how dare you actually talk about the product being offered!

      • +8

yeah, I thought this thread was about Paypal T&C's ??
There is a SSD on special, is there ?

    • +1

Imo it's Intel>Samsung>Corsair, but I do think this is better than the Intel 330 series. That's just from reading comments on forums.

  • +4

No offense 'rhys' but you have been pulled up for being unprofessional before..

Exhibit A: Being childish on a competitors deal

P.S. Paypal T&C blah blah blah, cant do dis, wah wah wah.

    • ROFLMFAO…great call dude! :)

  • If i were you I would have just made it $128 delivered. Win some lose some on the paypal/cc to save all this grief or are the margins that tight? Although you are getting some real exposure with all these comments.

  • +2

Can a mod clarify OzBargain's position on these PayPal surcharges? Either way, it'd put the matter to rest, and none of us would have to read all this whining and carrying on, when there are bargains to be had and discussed.

Personally, I don't care about the surcharge. If people don't want to pay it, there's a simple solution: buy somewhere else.

  • -5

I paid the surcharge, but now I'm going to claim it back using PayPal insurance since the surcharge was not permited according to PayPal user agreement. I have printed a copy of the website as proof.

    • +1

Keep us updated on the progress of that…I won't hold my breath though! ;)

    • +5

If that $3.69 really means that much to you…

      • +4

        Well we are on OzBargain.

        • +7

Yes… this is the place where if the retailer has a huge pricing error, half the people absolutely demand that they honor it. At the same time if the retailer tries to keep prices low for those who don't want to use paypal, out comes the pitchforks once again - even though credit card surcharges are a completely normal thing at low-priced retailers. Don't want to use a credit card with paypal? Just direct deposit.

Some of us here really need to put ourselves in the business owner's shoes once in a while. There's a bit too much "me me me memememememeonlyme" going on.

        • +3

Exactly. If half the whingers here were Reps for a day they would realise how hard it is to stay competitive. That being said there also needs to be some professionalism from the Rep also.

    • Can you claim your refund on paypal insurance?

  • does the ssd come with norton ghost 15 - and sata/usb cable, spacers etc etc ?

    • Don't think it comes with the sata/usb cable (that would be the laptop kit), but you can download Ghost from the samsung website.

      • is the Ghost version complete, and registered for free, or do you have to pay for it ? (eeek)

        • It's free:
          http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-7PC128N/…
          Click on Downloads, then Software.

I've downloaded it but haven't tried it myself.

        • i wonder how that works - regarding authorisation/registration, as G15 costs money to buy in stores. Whats to stop non-ssd owners also using the download link and getting a free copy?
My guess is its a trial version well suited for an initial data migration in this instance, but after 30 days would still need to purchase a key for any subsequent backups/reinstals.
          I may be wrong.

        • It is a trial version, and there's no license key that I can find to activate it, I emailed Rhys to confirm but I've not yet received a reply.

        • yes that does seem to be the case …
i opted for a fresh instal … wasn't sure if i could use windows repair disk to create a brand new OS (as i have all the W7 instal files on the dedicated manufacturer's Recovery partition - and naturally that partition would not be on the SSD without first cloning the orig drive … but it still worked !!! W7 repair disk of itself can provide a fully functional install OS.
Was very surprised at that. Computer is a toshiba.

  • +6

Hey guys, so i've just received the BAM email from paypal. Thoguth i'd share with you.

    Dear Site Administrator,
We have received a complaint that you have charged a fee, or a surcharge, to a buyer for accepting a credit card payment. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement under Surcharges, you agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

In order to comply with these laws and regulations, you must remove all mention of a fee or surcharge from your listing. If we receive a second complaint, your account access will be limited until you remove all mention of a fee or surcharge from your listing.

For the Terms and Conditions of the User Agreement, click the "Legal Agreement" link at the bottom of any PayPal webpage and click "User Agreement."

I'll be attempting to take this to the ACCC to get a clarification to see if this is allowed.

    cheers,

    Rhys

    • -5

Grow up. If you had any business acumen, training or real world business management skills you wouldn't type the rubbish you do.

Go and do an MBA, part time even. Also, consider that less is more, and you have far too many comments here for a credible merchant.

These comments are the only good advice you will get here.

      • Out of curiosity, do you run a small business?

        • i own more than one

        • Are your margins similar to the PC industry?

        • +3

higher as we are labour based. irrelevant though. Professionalism should come in all sizes.

I see this vendor has mates coming here trying to outvote the negs he is getting.

        • -1

You might want to take a bit of your own advice re: professionalism giggles, you're not exactly coming across as Mother Teresa yourself here dude! ;)

So what's the story with the threat accusation above???

        • +1

it was removed by the moderator on the previous page.

          Thanks for the suggestion.

        • -1

Really? That's just bizarre…I'm surprised the mods didn't take more action if it was a legitimate threat? :o

FWIW, I don't think Rhys has any sockpuppets here, I'd imagine that you're getting negged at the moment because without that context it seems like you're just carrying on over nothing at this point…but if someone threatened you, then hey…

        • +1

I'm not referring to my comments, the merchant got a lot of negs that strangely got positives later. No changes for a while the 5 sudden votes is always suss.

His comment was a veiled threat and removed by the mod. I don't need to repeat his comment.

Anywho this thread is as dead as this merchants credibility. At least he took the advice to stop posting.

    • +1

You go girl! Get the ACCC to rip Paypal a new one!

  • +7

Edit: I've updated the price to 127.95 delivered to here with "paypal policies" for the time being.

If your awesome and would like a discount for using direct deposit, use the discount coupon "directdeposit" :)

    • .. a lesson to keep in your pocket.

  • +7

This is a good read - I keep coming back to this thread just for a laugh. If you don't like the T's and C's go somewhere else where you can enjoy higher prices.

  • +4

    Is this ozbargain?

Because it sure doesn't seem like it.

No idea why so many people are basically complaining that prices are too low.

If this is you, then you should be banned from here and be forced to eat caviar for the rest of your life….

    • +2

I think you hit the nail on the head with the 12yo comment, OzB is rapidly becoming populated by the entitlement generation!

  • Is it retail version (with 3.5" bracket) or OEM?

  • Waiting for price drop till it is sub $120 (including shipping) !!

    • It's only $5.95…

  • My old company used to surcharge for paypal, they just didn't advertise it, and yes you can't do it lol

    • +5

Didn't ACCC rule that banks should be transparent about the fees they charge and explicitly list them (when using ATMs)? If a service has costs, they should be listed and if a vendor has a method of passing on savings by allowing his customer to forgo that service then that should be applauded.
If a customer wants to take advantage of convenience PayPal offers, then pay for it.
It's obvious that rhys100 is starting up and not up with the tricks of the trade, however, I'd buy from him ahead of the numerous resellers that pop up on OzB who know exactly how to screw.

  • +10

The truth is that the Rep is clearly just doing this great deal for advertising. I imagine his profit is about 2% so he has two choices, make everyone pay 2% more or do as he did which I think is pretty fair….

He may have come across as a bit of a douchebag but the real assholes are the ones making the rest of us pay an extra 2% by ratting out a small business to a billion dollar corporation's stupid policy.

    • -1

'…a bit of a douchebag' A bit? Mega-douchebag smarmy child. And he is a seller!

And the second part of your comment is rambling nonsense.

      • +1

Seriously, some of you guys need to get out more! ;)

    • -1

I always use PayPal when buying from websites I don't trust. I think PayPal's policy is a good one and it's all the customers that use PayPal that benefit. It's not just a convenient merchant service that small businesses are getting but the trust of cautious consumers to buy from them in the first place. PayPal is offering a very attractive service to small businesses but of course it comes with strings attached. If merchants aren't willing to comply with PayPal's terms of service, then merchants shouldn't use them. To say, "I want the benefits of PayPal but I'm not going to play by their rules" is not a reasonable option. People who use PayPal aren't driving up the prices for others - the merchant always has the choice to not use PayPal and offer whatever prices they want. But I suspect without PayPal, merchants like the OP wouldn't have a viable business and this deal wouldn't exist in the first place.

      • +5

… the merchant always has the choice to not use PayPal and offer whatever prices they want

but that's effectively what rhys100 did - he said:
        * pay by Direct Deposit, surcharge is 0% - merchant not using PayPal
        * pay by PayPal, surcharge is 3% - merchant using PayPal.

The issue is that PayPal wants their surcharge be hidden.

        • because at roughly 2.5% and a 30c transaction fee, it aint cheap :)

        • +4

.. and, unsurprisingly, (delusional) OzBs want (benefits of) PayPal with no surcharge!

  • +3

    ^ times eleventy billion.

  • +2

All posted today, plenty still in stock.

  • +4

I am in favour of the merchant here.

Paypal are complete and utter ripoff merchants. They also chargeback the seller without any recourse if the buyer complains.

I hate PayPal if I am selling, its OK as a buyer.

If you are a buyer and want to pay with PayPal, either pay the increased fee or email PayPal and complain…

  • If you have an MSY nearby then you can pick up this SSD for $125.

  • Speaking of Bad reputation, after waiting 42 days for my SSD and hearing 3 different excuses as to where it ended up i receive the following:

"Hi, they rang today and said the postman has confirmed it was delivered. There isnt anything I can do.

    Sorry mate, unlucky."

This is disgraceful, what is the use of using tracking & signature if your not willing to properly handle shipping issues with Auspost. Clearly an unprofessional

So here i am, a month and a half later with no SSD (because "they said it was delivered"). minus the amount, and to rub salt into the wound the price has gone down considerably since.

    Ridiculous.
