Elysian Energy/ARMA Group debt recovery

We had an electricity supply account with Elysian. Elysian advised us that prices were going to be much higher and we should look for another provider.
So, we did just that, went to another provider. Date of transfer was 3 June 2022

All good until, a few months later, on 1 December 2022, this group called ARMA started sending emails, demanding $80. They sent us a backdated invoice from Elysian, dated 7 June 2022.
This $80 referred to a subscription fee, We paid $80/month, then at the 3 monthly billing, would be deducted from the bill.

Of course, there was no bill from Elysian, as we were billed by the new provider for the next bill.

As I see it, we have no $80 debt. The new provider was paid the full amount of the next bill.

Has anyone here had dealings with ARMA?

I understand that Elysian has gone into Administration.

Cheers!

Just tell them to piss off. Not worth wasting your time explaining it or trying to get them to wipe it. If you want to explain it just tell them that date you ceased services with them was before that date of the invoice and leave it at that.

Nothing can be done about an $80 debt.

There will be no consequences to your credit file as the amount must be over $150 to be listed and no enforcement action will be taken by them as the amount is so low.

Also, the onus is on the provider to prove that they did bill you. As stringbean402 said that they cannot do anything with the debt enforcement. However, if you want to clear your name, maybe make a complaint to energy ombudsman about not receiving the bill and being chased by debt collector. Although, it could be that it is the administrator and not the debt collector, and they are following up on the final bill which will be issued only after service disconnection.

  • They sent us a backdated invoice from Elysian, dated 7 June 2022.

I feel they are too late. I mean thats last calendar and financial year

    • Not really, this is only six months.

I'm gonna be that person and tell you to go back and read the T&Cs when you signed up. Elysian used crappy monthly subscriptions. See what you contracted for and what the exist/transfer clauses state.

End of the day, the debt collector can't really do much except hassle you continually.

  • ARMA have been chasing me for $250 the last 3 years. They text/email legal threats all the time and then 2 weeks later offer 70% off the debt. Like seriously how is it worth your time. The supposed debt itself is a gym who decided to continue charging after I canceled out of contract. I actually have a laugh every time they contact me now, I haven't responded to them once.

  • Maybe call Elysian directly and file a complaint, they can then withdraw the incorrect bill from the collectors themselves.

This provides both a) protection under the relevant ombudsman and b) don't have to verify anything with ARMA to give them more reason to chase you.

Since the $80 'subscription' was billed in advance as I recall, they don't really have any leg to stand on with a date after your changeover (which they should know themselves anyway).

    • Pretty good chance the T&Cs required OP to give notice, and was inbetween a 3 month adjustment, thus the invoice.

  • I have them chasing me for $55, before Elysian shut I was told by email I didn't owe it as paid $80 in front. Stupidly lost the email, went to ombudsman but because of the amount couldn't help, sent this mob the ref no they went quiet for awhile but have now started back with the emails and texts.
Not sure if to just pay it to get rid of them, guess that's what they want.

  • They are texting me to pay for elysian, but if it were actually due then it would have been a final invoice from Elysian themselves or the default transfer operator which is AGL.
