ZENNI OPTICAL: Sunglasses Tint Too Dark??

I bought some zenni sunnies.. wasn't impressed.

The only standard/normal lens option I got was 'Dark Tint' (in black/brown etc).

It didn't say anywhere that Dark = 80% tint.
You have to click 'details' in the shopping cart to see it's 80%.

anyway I found them to be way too dark.. unusable except in really bright environments.

also, the lenses were small for the frame size.. looked weird.. would allow a lot of oblique light in.

happy with zenni service, they gave me store credit (- shipping) and said I didn't need to return the item.

There is a very light gray fashion tint.. but it doesn't give a %.

I'm sure they used to offer choices of tint grades.

I gave the feedback to zenni.. just putting it out here as well.

Perhaps they should have read this thread from December 2021 - ZENNI OPTICAL: Quality issues all of a sudden?

      • -1

        Lol

      • unsure if you were joking but yes that's my thread :)

in that case zenni eventually replaced my frames with ones that didn't immediately crumble (wearing them now).

i started this as a new post, because that was about a bad quality control.. this is more about what they are offering.

I use Zenni a lot, for many years now and I have prescription multifocal sunnies. Nothing at all is wrong with their 80% tint or their polarized lenses, perfect darkness for me. Its just your choice, next time find somewhere that does 40 or 50% tint

as for small lenses, what do you mean? If they were too small size wise they would fall out and if they are too thin did you choose thin options or the wrong frame for you? I have never had a pair of glasses where lenses were too small.

i just mean my huge noggin looks weird wearing them.. like morpheus on matrix.

the frames were classified as the largest/widest.. and as aviators.. but the lenses are small compared to that (diameter wise)

      • I haven't tried Zenni , but Clearly have the AR try-on feature with your face and also give the exact height/width/bridge measurements for every glasses apart from just small/medium/large sizes.

        • They have the same thing but you also need to know roughly what sizes you are looking for sometimes it's worth going into an optometrist trying on a frame and then photographing the size on the side of the frame to start your search with

      • Do the dimensions written on the arm of the frames match the dimensions of your online order?

        • These don't have dimensions inscribed
(just the product code and 'zenni')

I've been buying them mostly online since about 2006.
I've been pretty good with frame selection.. but I was a bit off the mark with these.

If the tinting was lighter I probably wouldn't have returned them, because looking weird is kinda my natural state.

          • @jinkerjinx: Sounds like cheap junk then if they don't bother with the basics like everyone else does

I always buy six at at time in case I'm not happy with some of them. I'm down to my last pair so I should order again, if these break I'll have to walk around with Harry Potter style cello tape holding them together.

You got them refunded and they let you keep them for free, you can wear them when out in bright sun, what's the problem?

    • there's no ongoing problem..
just wish they made it clearer i was buying 80%.

these are so dark that i have to remove them to properly see my navigation app while driving..
feels almost like night-time inside my car.

like any hint of a shadow and it feels like you can't see anything.

my local bought sunnies don't have this issue.. unsure what % they are though.

      (p.s they aren't polarised)

  • Pics would really help.

  • by way of example.

I can't easily/clearly check my speed while driving with this tint.

My car has huge LED lettering for the km/h (toyota echo.. think it was designed for elderly :) )
But it's sunk into the dash/shadows.. so it takes a moment extra to read the speed.
    (lenses aren't polarised)

The tint is probably similar to standard dark sunnies you'd buy here.
I'm probably just getting old. I'll just ensure I buy sunnies with lighter tinting in future..
like johnny depp.. or elton john.. depending on how i'm feeling that day.

    • Have you tried adjusting the brightness of the dash lighting?

      • yeh it's on full
        but good point
