Seiko Prospex Solar SNJ029P "Arnie" Ana-Digi $399, Seiko Presage Automatic SRPB43J "Cocktail Time" $399 Delivered @ Starbuy

180

This tan/brown Arnie will be my third, and I think will become my favourite. Diameter is 47.8mm but wears a lot smaller because lug to lug is maybe around 50mm, and the lugs are right at the bottom wedged between the case and caseback and tilt downwards. Have I told you how awesome ana-digi is?

Seiko Presage Automatic SRPB43J "Cocktail Time"
Yeah I know it's a Presage now and not the OG cocktail time, but it's still quite nice and hasn't been sub-400 for a while. I remember when I was just an occasional lurker here and picked one up from Qantas for $200 and couple thousand points a few years ago. I like the light blue sunburst dial.

Specs are in the links

There are also more watches on sale: https://starbuy.com.au/weekend-flash-sale/

Everytime the Aqualand pops up I always want to buy it, but talk myself out of it because it's bananas.

Watchnerd did prepare us for the current watch onslaught with his aldi post the other day. Buy it, and they will come…

Just an observation. There dont seem to be any female watches going on sale. Not talking about fashion watches.

Talking about the likes of seiko and citizen. Solar power powered, perpetual calendar, statinless steel bands.

@WatchNerd you want to help me out here?

    • You can get a Seiko baby turtle. The ones that Starbuy has are a bit girly, but there is a nice one at Shiels: https://www.shiels.com.au/seiko-prospex-sut403p-mini-tuna-so…, and you get $20 off first order. It's pretty much sold out everywhere except Watch Depot, who are owned by Shiels.

Seiko's rubber straps are quite nice, but if you don't like it you can always swap it for a nato or aftermarket bracelet. Just make sure it's sandblasted to match the matte case,

Those are baby tunas, not turtles. I have small wrists so I wear a white baby tuna.

        • Yes, sorry I got it wrong, I should know better because I own so many tunas and turtles/tortoises.

          Thanks for the heads up!

        • +1

The tunas wear very well l though, short lug to lug and not too thick.

I've never posted men's watches, I just post watches.

      Non-binary watches for all

Yeah what about those who identify as apache attack helicopter?

    • +2

irrc, there were a few in the previous weekend sale…?
doesn't bother me, i'm female and wear whatever watches i like the look of. i consider the lug shape and length more than the case size to determine if it'll be a good fit. but if it's a good price on something like a g-shock gravitymaster, i buy it anyway.

      • +2

A few of my female friends only wear men's watches, reason being "most women's watches are shit". I agree with you; look at measurements, if it fits and looks good it doesn't really matter what you want wear. Labels not really mean anything

        • +1

yep, they frequently have really weird shapes and designs (not always in a good way) and come with way too many diamonds.

          • +1

@tdw: Yeah I hate diamonds, I got my ex a 31mm "boy's" Rolex Datejust plain black, no fluted bezel, no jubilee bracelet, no bling. Like this: https://www.avantijewellers.co.uk/second-hand-watches-c60/ro…. Search google "31mm rolex datejust" and look how ugly most of them are.

Just the simple black dial, plain oyster bracelet and regular bezel. Looks so much cleaner and more elegant imo

Yeah looking at some of the shops selling womens watches and all i can is wtf. What is this? So i guess you are right. Im gonna have to go by measurements. My partner does have tiny wrists so gonna see which mens watch might fit.

There where some baby g i saw that looked ok.

          • @xoom: Baby-Gs are cool, I've almost bought one several times but always chicken out. Some have really cool designs. I might get one the next time I see my friend. I don't kmpw why I don't already have one because i buy women's clothes and shoes all the time. I just got a pair of women's Jordan 2s and 2 pairs of women's AF1 highs, which are way more softer and comfortable thas the men's. And women's size 11.5 and 12 always end up on sale. I bought a lot the Uniqlo x marni collab, and bought a size 10 oversized Marni jumper today from incu. I hope ot fits because it's a really nice colour and looks so soft and nice,

Seiko Solar Prospex JDM SNE541J $265.00 del seems like a good deal too.

    • +1

I already have one and I think I paid a ot more, but that's a great deal.

      • +1

Yeah that one is great. Nice price. I got the Padi version for 299$ last time. They keep awesome time and Super comfy, don't wear big.

PS I prefer the mojito cocktail, the dial and colour looks great. It's not a bad modern take but dress watches are traditionally a bit smaller usually 38-39mm

        • I have the PADI as well, I think I paid around $250 using vouchers at shiels or watch depot. Also had a frozen margharita but sold it because I couldn't see myself wearing it. Looked prettty though

          • @rosebank: Nice, the padi is good, would be better for $250, haha
Wil have to look out for a price protection claim in the future.
probably changing the glass to domed sapphire for somethign to do - do u you think blue looks ok or clear?

            • +2

@G-rig: I'd just leave it because I personally don't care about crystal type. But if you want to mod it, don't get the cheap thin ones on ebay for $20. Just search your model number and "double domed sapphire". Blue and green looks cool, but AR coatings scratch off over time, and the way I treat my watches I'd go with no AR if possible. You also need to buy tools if you don't have already

              • @rosebank: fkn comment got deleted
yes it's all good not getting cheap stuff ~$60 on Ali.

Sorry for the silly question OP but what do you mean by 'Yeah I know it's a Presage now and not the OG cocktail time'? Are Presage and Cocktail time not the same thing?

    • +2

The original cocktail time SARB065 was smaller at 40mm, has "Automatic 23 Jewels" on the dial, and has a smaller cylindrical crown. "Presage" is just branding Seiko made up in the mid 2010s for their dress watches, and "cocktail time" is the model, sort of like how "Prospex" is for Seiko's divers and "Samurai" is the model.

So this is the new Presage cocktail time, which is a tiny bit bigger, has "Presage Automatic" on the dial, and for some reason a huge diamond crown that's more common on a flieger flight watch. And it has a newer movement.

Here is a great resource of the history and different cocktail models: https://www.theseikoguy.com/presage-cocktail-time/

    • That does look better in the vids vs the stock image. Nice light pickup, depends if you're into that colourway, pretty good.
A mate has a silver and black band 2100 - you're paying for the metal in these ones I assume (no solar). Good having positve display :), still quite small though.

      • worth it for the positive display alone lol

        • Yeah I got the Bluetooth solar gw5600 (black with blue) and it's a negative, pretty rubbish unless in bright sun. Was thinking may mod it to pos, but still have my G5600e-1 and haven't sold that. They are pretty similar but different hmm

    • I've been looking at that one or a while; I really like the colour, but my G-Shock box is full because I have a GBX100 on hold
