  • all the non "Dad" looking ones are too big for my tiny baby wrists :(

The Bulova Hacks are classic field watches and are 37mm / 38mm.

Cuck chair for you it is

Its the best seat in the house - Sometimes you just gotta accept when you need to get the best man/woman in to get the job done right.

        Hahaha. Harsh crowd here, mate.

    • Help me out. Which are the non "dad" looking watches?

      • Probably the Marine Stars

Thanks OP. Got my first Bulova

  • The 96a282 is very tempting, I like the history around it. Would it be a good daily? I don't know much about watches at all

    • Yes it would be a good daily, I think it would look good on you if you've got skinny wrists.

      Random Rob Review.

  • Thanks OP! Finally got my hands on a Bulova.

Bulova Hack Auto 96A259 (black dial) 😘😍⌚

  • I do like these Bulova watches.

    Thanks OP!

  • Does it have to be so thick because it's mechanical? Or do they just make it thick to look substantial? The Hack is a bit thick for the size, otherwise a good looking watch.

    • Mechanical watches are usually a bit thicker and the rotor in an automatic adds more thickness.
Those two are pretty thick for what they are, though.

The thinnest automatic I have is 11.3mm but I also have automatics which are even thicker than these two. Sometimes the thickness is purely to accommodate aesthetic design like a high domed crystal.

    I have this watch - Bulova Watch 97A154 - 3 year warranty

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/275251359072

    $152 delivered with ebay plus

Bulova watches are good vlaue, only thing is most of the Dive or Chronos are around 45mm which is way too big for my wrist.

    • +2

That's cheap! It wasn't actually part of the sale, I just added because I thought it was a good deal. I've removed it now.

It may not sound like it but that eBay store is owned by Citizen

        • Bulova is owned by Citizen!

        • that's right. you get an invoice from citizen themselves. bought many q&q solar watches from them (also owned by citizen)

$135 with ebay plus and free delivery for me :)

      • Yeah that was how much I paid as well

I was pleasant surprised by the quality of the stock leather strap, nice and soft. Although I still replaced it with a very similar soft Hirsch sheepskin leather strap which cost about half of the watch itself. :)

97a171 is a very decent watch.. Nice deal WN

  • Tempting - I did want a Hack but ended up with a Praesidus A-11. I would love it if Bulova made a thinner manual wind version of the Hacks

    • I like the look of the double domed crystal on that watch.

  • Has 98A190 ever been on a lower price?

  • Whoa….I was just looking at the Hack 96A259 on the weekend, and today it pops up even cheaper. Sooooo tempting…

I really want a decent daily wearer that's automatic and has Arabic numerals. I'd just have to check whether the smaller size is going to be okay or if it would look silly on my wrist.

      What size is your wrist?

      • Erm…man-sized? I honestly have no idea what kind of measurement you'd look for. I'm currently wearing a diver watch with a 41mm case and it pretty much covers the whole top of my wrist with not a lot of space left. Hence why I'm thinking a 38mm might look a little childish on me.

        • +1

The circumference of your wrist, where your watch sits.
It sounds like 41mm is quite large on you, if it's covering your whole wrist. Are the lugs hanging over the edges of your wrist?
If 41mm is large on your wrist, 38mm would probably look quite good.

          • @O15: Okay, that gives me a good idea. No, the lugs on my current watch don't hang over, they sit quite comfortably about 3-5mm or so in from the edge of my wrist if I look straight down on it. I think I'll pass on this one for now and wait till I can make time to go somewhere and try a few different sizes on. There seems to be no shortage of great deals going on these days, and there's always another great watch waiting around the corner.

            • @Chazzozz: It also comes down to what you're used to. Seeing you're already wearing 41mm watches then dropping down to 38mm is going to feel tiny.

              • +1

@WatchNerd: This is very true. Most of my watches are between 40-42mm (42 is the largest I can go).
I recently purchased a 38mm. At first 38mm, looked too small but I soon realised it is actually a good size for my wrist (though, I would not go smaller).

Man would have pulled the trigger if the Bulova Hack 98A255 (https://starbuy.com.au/bulova-automatic-98a255/) was the same price as some of the hacks above.. so close

  • Not really related. But when do you usually get sales on Longines watches ? Or cheaper to buy from an airport duty free?

    • Not sure if buying it from airport isnthe best idea. Only ones i would purchase are wayches that dont normally go on sale like rolex or cartier or tiffany etc.
Longines are better to get from a reseller.i bought mine from linda and co. But one time i went to melbourne and saw the same watch even slightly cheaper from a dfs store
