For the trick to work you don’t cancel the sub on GoPros website.

You need to use a method that has the exact amount of the go pro bundle minus the subscription fee, so $543.97.

Go pro will then try and take that money but there’s nothing in the account so it fails.

I used Revolt and their virtual card to achieve this.

    • Exactly, this is what i did with Gopro 9 back then…

I bought GoPro 10 last September and paid with PayPal. Cancel the sub in PayPal after 2min. Got the GoPro 10 for $450. Today I try this trick again I can’t find subscription page in PayPal anymore.

The Paypal method to avoid the $70 subscription fee:

They charge you for the hardware as soon as you go through the checkout, then they charge for the subscription a little later, so you need to cancel the Gopro Paypal payment permission to block the subscription payment…

Straight after you finish the checkout go to Paypal >>> Settings>>> Payments>>> select the Gopro auto-payment permission and cancel it so Gopro dont have permission to bill you again in the future…

This link should get you to the auto-payments:
      https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/

An example of a Paypal Auto-payment permission page, go there and click the cancel:

(You seem to have a bit of time but to play it safe maybe have the Paypal page open and logged in before finalizing the checkout on the Gopro site so you can cancel the payment permission as fast as possible)

      • Thanks I found it

Say hello to Amy for me.

      • Does the initial payment for the GoPro sit as an 'Authorisation in progress' in PayPal for a while before it deducts from the linked account?
Been in this state for 2 days.
And yes I've had the email from Amy :)

The detail of the transaction says "This is a temporary authorisation to make sure your payment method will cover the requested amount. Your payment method will be charged when your transaction is complete."

        • I haven't experienced this myself but I've seen other people mention it… It should be all good… Your order will probably be processed Monday or Tuesday… (US company shipping from Singapore)

Edit: someone mentioned here their Payment listed a pending on Paypal, it shipped ok…

  • Isn't this the same deal that's been running a while?

    • Yeh, it's been an ongoing 15% off sale… I think the sale does end at times then they just kick it off again a day later.. .

    • Extra 15%off this time

Isn't it A$545.96 including the sub, not the $535 in the title ? (about $476 if you dodge the sub payment)

$614 for the bundle deal with suib, … $544 if you dodge the subscription fee…

  • i bought a gopro 10 for $750 last year 💀

    • Why so much? The 10 deals were quite a bit less than that…

I paid $575 with 3 batteries, charger, and silicon case in Nov 2021,
      https://i.postimg.cc/Gp9G2RYH/2021-Gopro.jpg
The deals got cheaper after that, the normal price was $530 with sub, $460 without sub up until the 11 came out:

  • CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION ON PAYPAL FIRST!!!

Do not cancel through GoPro as they will charge you

  • Those that cancel subscriptions, do you not see value in the replacement program as a minimum?

Personally, I've been using Gopros since 2011, I've recorded a HUGE number of hours on motorbikes, boats, bushwalking, and such, I've scuffed a couple up a but never damaged one beyond minor cosmetics… I guess it depends what you're doing and how clumbsy you are…

Also be mindful, a replacement costs $150, plus the $70 sub fee, so $220 for one year insurance, it's not value for money to me…

The Subscription has very little other value IMO:
-Discounted accessories, but they will only ship batteries with a new camera , and other accessories you have to pay shipping on after the initial purchase, so it's only cost effective to buy accessories with your initial camera purchase, you get the accessory discount on your initial order even if you use the trick to dodge paying the subscription….
-Cloud storage, but that only lasts as long as you're paying the $70 per year sub fee…
-unlimited use of the Quick App, I'm not sure what value this is, I've never used it, it "may" be worthwhile to some people though….

      • Do you make a short video of your gopro trips?
What software do you use if not quick app?

Any recommendations for a software that's easy to use to make 3-4 min clips from like hours of footage?

davinci resolve - free and powerfull

        • +2

Most my "editing" (if you can call it that) is just using the free VideoProc Converter to "merge" clips together for uploading, at times I'll do a bit of cutting with it also but I don't make much effort:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/videoproc.com

I guess the majority of my editing is done with the start-stop button on the camera, lol ….

Often I'm editing and uploading while on the road from an ageing Microsoft Surface Go Windows tablet so I'm limited for processing power, "merging" clips together doesn't actually re-encode them, it just stiches them together, it's very fast and you don't lose quality…

As an example, this sort of stuff is about the extent of my lazy editing, I really don't have the patience for fancy editing and I'm not attempting to be a Youtube-Star so this is good enough for my memories and to share what I'm doing with family and friends:
          Trout fishing vid: https://youtu.be/-zxxx4NBqd4
Wandering around "The Bridge" TV-show film set: https://youtu.be/nohBAiC1CRs
Mt Tarawera Volcano in NZ (Gopro8): https://youtu.be/riSI6kRMYkE

Occasionally I'll use the free "DaVinci Resolve" to edit up a vid and add music, but it's rare, I really cant be bothered making the effort…

I believe with the Gopro quik app you basically have to upload all the video clips to the cloud and then edit them in the cloud, so you use a crap load of data to do it… I'm often on the road and limited on data so it wouldn't suit my needs… (I may be wrong on this though, best to do your own research)

@FLICKIT: Don't forget Garmin's free video editor VirbEdit… Thats my main editor now.

            • @meong: GoPro quick does a good job for auto editing

              • @raphael2012: Is Gopro Quik available on desktop?

                • +1

@meong: It was discontinued quite a while back… the old version is still available but I suspect it wouldn't be too great these days:
                  https://community.gopro.com/s/article/GoPro-legacy-software?…

Edit, it looks like it was discontinued around 4 years ago, the last camera it officially supported was the Hero7.. It's probably not worth stuffing around with software that was discontinued that long ago…

Did anyone mention the $13 conversion fee???

    • Good call…

There's also a "Unidays" $10? discount code I believe?… In the other Gopro threads people have been requesting codes and the good people of OzBargain have been supplying them ;)

  • Heading out to Canada in a fortnight for a ski trip. I have an old Gopro and I so want to upgrade and buy this deal but ….. I have countless hours of footage from previous ski trips that even I dont want to watch. What do people do with all their videos?

    • +1

I record most my interesting activities and hoard ALL the footage, I figure when I'm 90yo in a nursing home it will allow me to relive my younger years, lol … (I upload odd bits and pieces to Youtube for family and friends but I put basically no effort into editing so most my clips are pretty crap)

  • Any recommendation if worth getting bundle at all?
Also, if cancling subscription, final price would be even cheaper like $545.96-$70=$475.96 ??

    • +1

bought for $461 (combined with unidays code)
      Thanks heaps for the tips!

      • How did you get it for $461? Looking to get one myself.

I thought the $543.97 bundle price already took into account the $69.99 off?

        • +1

Yes, but you can cancle $69.99.
if you pay with paypal and cancel authorisation for gopro subscription straight away in your paypal account (explained method above from @FLICKIT - thanks heaps), you will be able to have final price cheaper around $470.
And if you have a student friend, they can give you promo code from unidays (needs .edu email to register) to make it around $14 cheaper. Hope this help and good luck.
Still I have transaction pending though hope everything goes smooth.
Just received an email saying subscription unsuccessful and I have order confirmation and receipt emailed.

          • @Alit: Ah, yes. But I mean, the price for the Hero11 + the bundle was $613? So once you take off $69.99 it’s $543.97. Or did you get a different Go Pro?

            Thanks for your help.

            • @hero88: I didn't go with the bundle, mine was only gopro 11 with nothing else
Also I can see 15% sitewise discount is removed and the deal should be over then I guess.
But in general, just to clarify this as it was my question too, when you buy gopro, they charge you within two transactions: one for camera and another for annual subscription which you can avoid the subscription and make whole cheaper.

  • Hey there if anyone can provide a Unidays code it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  • Hey, how often does the unidays $150 off the go pro discount come around ?
    its only 3% currently

  • Anyone have uniday code they can share?

    Thanks!
