Credit Card with Travel Insurance - without Any Booking

Hi OZB!

Wanted to check if anyone is aware of any non-CBA card that allows to activate travel insurance without booking return flight tickets on that card?

with CBA I am simply login and activate insurance irrespective of any bookings. From memory, HSBC only requires to spend $500 on any travel related expenses eg accommodation.

Thanks in advance

    BankWest?

  • Apply for the CBA low fee gold credit card. The first year is free and you will get free travel insurance. You also get $300 cash back when you spend 1.5k in 90 days.

    • I already have CBA platinum, looking to close it. Hence non-CBA.

    Amex Express

    • American Express Express? Is this a new product?

Need to have bought the tickets with the Amex though…

    • Need to buy tickets with Amex. We have Explorer and Platinum. Need to have tickets booked on the card for activation.

  • Please clarify what you're trying to achieve. Are you intending to acquire a new credit card that includes international travel insurance (without the ticketing requirement) but don't really want a CBA one?

    • Correct. Already have CBA, wanting to change to another card that offers travel insurance without the ticketing requirements

      • Many of them don't require the airfare but rather just prepaid spending (hotels, car hire can be included)

I use the NAB Platinum Visa Debit but there are many credit cards that will do the same.

        • But there's no other product like CBA?

      • I've been researching international travel insurance for a trip later this year; did you know about medical-only cover? International Medical Only travel insurance
It occurs to me that's the only thing I really care about, I'm ok to self-insure for everthing else (except car hire excess with zero policy excess)

  • ANZ Platinum requires a minimum of $250 spent towards the OS travel to qualify for up to 3 months comprehensive travel insurance.

  • Would it be still covered if I bought gift cards which are then used towards the purchase of flights/hotels?

    • Has to be direct

  • CBA world debit has it

    • Haven't they stopped offering that?

      • yeah, but those who have it, get covermore insurance, matter of fact i just applied for it.

        • Ya I have CBA Platinum, looking to change, hence the post.

  • Bendigo Ready - no fees, $500 prepaid expenses to activate travel insurance, low credit limit. Disclaimer: I don't have one, just planning to get it.

  • Westpac Altitude Rewards Cards possibly. I was able to activate travel insurance for my parents on the Black card without any flight bookings. Not sure about the Platinum card though.
