Is Woolworths Using Meat Glue?

Bought these peppered steaks, not the first time, and they pretty much fell apart like this.

I think it's meat glue and subpar cuts. It shouldn't fall apart this easy.

Thoughts? Is it an issue?

Well it’s not listed on the ingredients… 😂

    not the first time

    There's your problem

Wow those are two sad looking pieces of meat.

Maybe contact Woolworths customer service and see if you can get a refund.

    It's just shitty Wollies meat.

If it was meat glue it would be a single piece.

Those new cryovac containers they pack stuff in makes it really difficult to see what your actually buying, especially when it's smothered in herbs and you cant actually see the meat properly.

Reckon nobody in their right mind would buy meat from either of the big 2.

This is the first time I've heard of meat glue. Is it the opposite of lube?

    • If you can't keep your meat glued for more than 4 hours, please see a medical professional.

Gotta admit it made me laugh

OP at least cut something which has a proper cut of steak and then complain.

A cut called ‘steak’ and nothing else could be anything eg a bunch of cats taped together

Meat from colesworth is garbage and overpriced.

    • And the poor butcher just outside pays exhorbitant rent, compared to Colesworth.

Im pretty sure if you show them those photos they will give you a refund. Then go buy elsewhere as others have suggested.

If they used transglutaminase (meat glue) they would be required to list it in the ingredients. And looking at the image of the packaging, its not there.

    • A big corporation wouldn't dare do something illegal now would they

I mean, if you're going to claim stuff without evidence why not go all the way and say it's made from people?

      • 'Meat Glue' isn't banned in Australia to my understanding.

Really? If they used GLUE it probably wouldnt have fallen apart.

Its sad how many people cant see the obvious. 10 out of 25 at the time of this post thought it was.

The product doesnt look good. Therefore its got to be mans intervention. If it was natural it would have been perfect.

Not true, in fact that's one of the primary things to look for when they do use meat glue, that it falls apart. but anyway.

          Nice strawman there

          You ok?

          • @coffeeinmyveins:

            You ok?

Others have different views to you so they cant be ok?

So you say using meatglue it falls apart.

However if they dont use meat glue it falls apart. Not a great way to judge using meatglue.

The only point is if its ONE piece it's possible it doesnt have meat glue

Looks like something a lab should test whether fit for human consumption

  • Out of interest does meat glue smell of anything? The snarky butcher's that is near by meat smells like chemicals which dissipate after cooking. Would that likely mean they use this meat glue?

    • I feel like it shouldn't smell to the point that it overpowers the actual meat smell, that sounds like something else.

Looks like they were just macerated/cut. One piece still has fat and connective tissue attached, not easy to fake that….

  • Do vegan girls last longer?

    • Not if you use meat glue.

We used to rent 2 doors from a butcher shop.
The smell prevented us from ever entering.
Coles has now fired all their butchers, sell only prepacked meat.
As a customer I prefer to know ALL the added things that come along, so far we slightly prefer the C over the W store.

  • I can’t buy supermarket meat anymore. It all tastes disgusting. I don’t know what they are doing but they are doing something to it all. The chicken breasts are so watery, the mince just tastes funny.

    • The mince from CW and even Aldi, is why I don't do SpagBol anymore.

    • Youtube Doctor Mike Hansen

    • Chicken from CW is flavourless and yeah, really watery. Wouldn't be surprised if they were pumping it up with liquid like people have been known to do with ham.

Every bit of rump I get from a proper butcher looks similar (as in it isn't all one solid piece, but 3 joined by the strap of fat along the edge).

To me they're just shaping it to fit in the pack but it actually looks fine.

You bought generic "beef steak", ie no specified part of the animal.
Unfortunately, good beef steak is very expensive.
