Did Belong Just Axe The $15/Month Plan?

Just signed up to Belong under the guise that I could change my $25/month plan to the $15/month plan, but that option doesn't seem to be available now?

Is anyone else able to confirm that this option isn't available anymore?

I think it's grandfathered but don't quote me.

I think it's grandfathered but don't quote me.

  • +1

It's available after the first month. Critical Information Summary

    • My partner has been with Belong for 6 months and she could change it immediately after signing up. This was suggested to her by the sales rep so I'm a little stumped as to why I can't do that now.

      • I can't be certain it's still available but if you can't see it in the app just message them & ask.

  • Hope not - I’m using it for phone and hot spotting home internet - transfer data between them to make sure it doesn’t expire

  • Can confirm it does not show on the app

  • +3

Further. Its still on their Critical Information Summary

    Edit.

From 14 Feb $19. Monthly plan comes into effect.

    The $15 has been Ended

Source pls. $19 is an odd number for Belong. It never charged an amount not in $5 increments. Hence, I doubt the accuracy of this info.

      • Spoke with Belong customer service.

      • +1

$19 has been confirmed - effective 9 April for existing customers. Received email today😢

Bought a stack of $80 starter packs when was 2k Telstra Plus points in May Deal. Had earnt a lot of free points in Deals.

Late October, used referral to activate phone SIM, for 6 months use ($25 + 5x$15).

Will not affect that SIM as terminating number at end of April. But will affect next SIM activating in April (5 months instead of 6, using Referral ($25 + 4x$19) if pay $1.

Those packs activated as Data were for 500GB, but became only 400GB. Gift unused Data to phone SIM.

        • Hopefully, Belong will allow $19/mth plan for the 1st month.

          • @Neoika: Somehow doubt it!
Would mean 15GB less Data anyway.

(Not that it would are affect me with over 1000GB of data left. I've got more free data than I know what to do with!)

  • When i was looking at belong 1-2 weeks ago there was never a $15 plan only seen that it said the $15 was no longer available somewhere

    • Maybe only for existing customers. I am on it now and can still see it an option under the manage plan.

      • I saw it when i first signed up, and due to this chat, I checked and the option for me is gone.

Should woulda changed to it straight off, as that was the idea for me, good value kids service..

Maybe only visible if you are on it. Wonder if grandfathered or if it will go for the next renewal

      • +1

Do you also get the warning that I get?….

Once you change from this plan, it will be no longer available.

        • I didn't try to change it.

I think it'll still exist for current users for a while.

  • +2

    First 500GB to 400GB, and now $15 to $19

  • Wait, there is more: Double data has ended effectively doubling the price!

  • This would be actually devastating news. I hope this is not the case

  • +2

I'm currently on the $15 plan and if I go to change it there is a note "Once you change from this plan, it will be no longer available"

  • +4

I guess they don't want a lot of people to belong.

    • I think that's it exactly, as a Telstra arm, they want people really paying no less than $50/m as soon as possible.

  • Well, this sucks. I think this will make a lot of users look at what alternatives are available.

  • +2

    Confirmed.

    https://www.belong.com.au/support/mobile/manage-service/chan…

And no addition to data. 5gb.
The one good thing though about belong is you can go up and down plans while keeping data bank.

    • I think it may increase other plans by $4 in the near future too.

It is odd to have one $19 plan while others are $25, $35, $45.

  • Well this totally sucks. Is there cheaper options available for the kids phones?

    • I am using woolworths mobile for kids
      ~8Gb month $150 yearly >$12.50 month
plus get 10% off groceries every month .. upto $50 on 1 shop ( 2 if you use online first )
pays for itself easy even if you only have a $150 shop

  • +2

Got the email today - effective 9 April 23 (existing customer)

No additional data either - just a price rise

  • +1

Got an email pushing up the 15 per month to 19. Looking at other options now for the kids plans

    • Since we’ve been with them it’s gone from $10 to $19. There must be something less expensive.

      • +3

Belong still has a feature that its competitors don't have for kids. Unlimited data @ 1Mbps under $20/mth, which is useful for most careless kids.

      • +1

If your kids don't need much data you will be better off with one of those 365 plans at discounted costs. My 16 yo has a Catchconnect atm 120gb for 12 months. She uses approx 9-10 a month so it has been great for us. Work out how much data they use and then pick a cheap 12 months plan.

  • +3

It appears so, I have just read this link: https://www.belong.com.au/support/mobile/manage-service/chan…
I found a $10 plan using the Telstra Network (4G Only) that has 1GB data per month and unlimited calls/text and data rollover up to 500GB, the website is www.cmobile.com.au
They also have a $15 plan with 3GB data. Would be a good option to port to especially if you want to keep costs down!

    • Thanks! Will check it out. The kids really only have phones for safety at this stage so don’t need much data.

  • Was wondering if anyone would know if it is possible to switch from a $15 mobile plan to their $15 data plan for 20GB data keeping the same number? I cant seem to find this answer anywhere on their website. When you go to activate, it doesn't allow you to port in a number.

    • Probably need Live Chat to do that manually.

  • WTF, just got an email from Belong axing my $15/month plan and moving me to the $19/month plan.

    • +1

Not quite yet… effective for renewal from 9 April for existing customers

  • wtf, just got the same email. That sucks, it makes it really hard to use up my credit.

    • First time I signed up to Belong, was with a $25 pack, bought for $10 on special from Coles, and I got 9 months of service from it due to 4 referral sign ups and the $10/month plan.
    • Second and current time was an $80 pack bought using Telstra Points, only got 1 referral sign up, and with the $15/month plan I will get 7 months service from it.
    • Third time (already got another $80 pack using Telstra Points), I calculate I will only get 5 months of service at $19/month (and have to pay $1 for last month), and I assume there will be no referral sign ups.
    • The trend is clear - rising monthly cost, fewer referrals (presumably because of fewer customers bothering using Belong), resulting in shorter periods of service. I used to think Belong was great, but it's getting to the point that something like $99 upfront for a year of service on Coles mobile (Optus network), or similar, is looking like less hassle, plus you've dealt so you know what you're getting, and generally preferable.
  • just got the email too - at this rate theyll get rid of the $19 plan soon and make u go on the $25

  • +3

The first time ever i joined belong then they start to make changes. Not happy jan!

    I'm on $25/m can't change plan to $19.

  • +6

Started on $10 plan (with 2GB data) and was happy there for many years.
Last year they migrated me to the $15 plan (with 5GB that I don't need).
Am now told that the same plan will cost $19/month with no other changes.
Looks like it is time to move elsewhere and forfeit all that unneeded data.

Belong have not even implemented overseas incoming SMS 2FA authorisations for existing customers (which should be a minimum requirement for all AU telecom plans these days)
Prices going up, but telco falling behind.

  • What's the best option to switch to, that's the question. Hope amaysim brings back their Groupon specials.

    • +1

I bought a Woolies long expiry plan (100GB for $150, 12 months) which works out to be $12.50 per month. Not the cheapest in terms of absolute price (e.g. right now coles have 150GB for $119, 12 months), but it gives you 10% off your Woolies grocery shop, once per month (capped at $50). So imo, it's the best option. A $125 shopping basket will pay your phone bill, and with inflation these days I'm guessing that won't be too hard to hit, even if you're living alone

  • +2

Bummer I’ve just got the $15 to $19 email. Like others, I started with the $10 plan. Sorry Belong, I’m out.

  • I truly don't think they care less and are more than happy for you to roll away and not be a customer as per the email "If the plan no longer suits your needs, you can cancel your service using the Belong app or change to another plan at no cost." to me that just reads as "don't complain, go elsewhere it makes it easier for us to close the Belong experiment down anyway"

The $19 is there just so they are just under woolies and others for those that wont churn and the lack of any increase in data is in line with their 'care less' treatment of customers knowing that most of us probably went there just because it was cheap ($10/m) and didn't care about stacks of data (that said I have >300Gb banked, hehe).

I need to stay on a Telstra backed plan for coverage unfortunately, if i was going to roll off I'd probably go woolies but I might stick with them until they do actually hit >/ $20/m

*I got the email today… clearly its taking them some time.

    • +2

Same predicament. Telstra is the only network that works well in my area and at work. And I have 2500gb banked as an alternative to $60/m Wi-Fi, so I'm stuck :(

      • Likewise on the data banking - I will port out when it runs down - which is a shame / love that I could swap data between phone and iPad

  • +2

The more I think about this - it just reeks of them closing out ‘winning punters’ - those customers getting too much value out of the system

  • +2

bye bye Belong (and my banked 400GB), just got the email… Woolworths here i come!

  • +2

    I am porting to Circles.life , $10 a month for 13 month (30GB plan).
Anyone still on Belong want my banked 90GB? Will there be for another 2 hours max as the porting started.

    • Likewise thinking of porting out but will be with Belong for a few more months. Circles.life might be the same path I will take in the future.
Although happy to accept the 90GB to cover some of my data needs until then. Feel free to PM me. Thanks heaps!

    • +1

Last time I checked circles life uses a credit check - not a big deal, but worth noting

  • I got the $80 sim from Telstra points last month and just activated now. Only to find now more $15/5GB plan… big sads!

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/10694/101953/screensho…

  • Find it annoying as someone previously on $10 plan (worked well with my wife on a higher plan gifting me data) . Like others I need Telstra network. Whilst Boost is only $2 cheaper for the 12 mth plan, tempted to move out of spite.

  • +1

The $19/month plan could be going now too.

I wanted to change to the $19 plan yesterday. Went to select the plan but found it not there anymore. I ended up ringing Belong and luckily they were able to do the change over the phone. I tried asking why I could not make the change by myself in my account but they could not understand what I was asking.

Can anyone check this in their account?

    • I signed up for two services recently - one yesterday and another the day before yesterday on separate new accounts.

I could change over to the $19 plan via the app for the latter but not the former, although on your advice I was able to do so over the phone.

    • See my link above to the CIS, it's not available for new sign ups. In other words you can change to the $19 plan after the 1st month (after activation).

      • +1

The option has been removed as of yesterday.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: It is no longer available as a plan to change over to in the app.

Please re-read my comment above - it was an option still up until Wednesday but since yesterday has been removed.

            • +1

@Reveen: Ok well that's misleading then if it's still in the CIS but not in the app. I'm sure the TIO would be interested in that.

        • Thanks for confirming.

I wonder what's going on. Lucky we could do the change over the phone but they might stop this too soon.

          • +1

@Rodo: Three days after signup the $19/month option is now available for selection.

      • +1

@Watch Nerd Yes correct. I tried to transfer to the $19/month plan for two mobile plans, one which had been with Belong for a few months and the other that I signed up last week. For both, the $19/month plan was not an option to change to.

For the plan that I signed up last week, on the day I signed up, I looked up the available plans that I could change to for the following month. The $19/month plan was listed. Then yesterday I checked again and the $19/month plan was gone.

  • +3

The $25 plan is going now too. Will be increased to $29 from 4th July 2023. So the $80 starter packs are looking less and less attractive. Used to be able to get 6 months out of these (with a referral) but will now be going down to 4 months (or 5 months if you pay $5 extra for the 5th month).
