  • $25 Google Play voucher included?

    • +1

should have it. havent opened the box yet

      • +2

They are not in the box. They are automatically added to the account when registering the device.

  • +1

Hmm Dont see any voucher inside, what does it look like? Do I need to register to get the $25 credit?

    • It think its only if you buy from Google.

"Buy the new tablet from Google and get $25 credit to spend on Google Play, as well as some great free content, including your own copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon." https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_7_16g…

A guy from work got one from Google delivered this week, when he turned it on it was already linked to his account "Hello XXXX" but he still had to download the movie separately. I'm not sure how the credit was applied - but I didn't see any vouchure.

        • +1

Yes… and if I were Google, I'd be freezing accounts that tried that trick until they provided a refund. It's like the Coles voucher debacle - anyone who tries to rig the system is fair game for fraud/shoplifting charges, or at the very least being banned from service.

        • -7

Yeah but they are just new ghost accounts anyway. They only have to have a valid CC attached to them when signing in. Do it 12 times and enjoy a fully google subsidised N7, that would almost make up for their efforts to force users into the cloud.

        • I believe that the loophole has been fixed.

        • +3

          What coles voucher debacle?

    • Can you confirm if it's applied when you login to Google Play? Wouldn't mind grabbing one today providing it's linked to your account.

      Thanks

      • Says Get $25 credit for google Play When you enter a credit card

        • +3

got $25 credit after entering Credit card details

        • -6

          Grats on your awesome tablet.

too bad no external sd card

        • Any idea what happens if I already have entered my credit card details to my Google Play account beforehand on some other device?

        • +1

Wasn't me, but your digging your own hole in the ground now ;)

        • You should get it anyway, if you already have a CC attached to the account.

That's what I'd assume, anyway. Could be wrong.

        • +4

          you look smart.

        • +3

Well i negged you now. Android fans get negged if they go on an apple page and bag out that product. If you dont like it then its quite simple, get lost!

Everything has flaws, apart from you of course!

        • -8

aaahh , finaly the brave fandroids emerge :)

@alwayseric, ninjabear, ejsteven, iseenya - bravo to all of you

one small question: why it took around 16 hrs to show yourself? you need an apk for that??? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

        • +2

I own a nokia that does not run Android, a galaxy tab that does & an ipod nano. Not a fanboi of anything but your just being plain immature.

        • +1

i didnt neg anyone. only pointed out you looked smart:D

        • Grats on your awesome tablet.

too bad no external sd card

With all the comments on previous Nexus7 deals, it's no secret that the tablet doesn't have an external micro sd slot. Your comment comes across "Hahaha, sucked in, there's no expandable storage."
Even without expandable storage, the tablet is well worth it. iOS devices and the Galaxy Nexus don't have microsd slots, yet people still buy them.

one small question: why it took around 16 hrs to show yourself? you need an apk for that??? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

          So lame

        • I never laugh at the lack of external storage
You quoted my post as well.

It's good to be part of community that we could give as many info for the prospective buyers - like shipping cost, dodgy seller, specs of the product, so on

ozbargain is not for android or iphone exclusive.

Ok. so just end it here shall we? we got plenty of bargain to look after

        • The credit was automatically there for me. I had previously registered on Google Market/Play for my android phones. All previous purchases/downloads plus the $25 credit are there on the N7. (To use the credit, choose it as a payment option at checkout - selected by default for me).

  • Do OW stock it yet?

    • Nope. Just checked.

    • I highly doubt they'll allow price beating on these. Pretty much no profit margin to speak of, as it is.

      • im sure there is a profit margin on the 16gb. or else retailers wouldnt sell them.

        • Yes, hardware cost for 16gb version is $US159.25 so they can make some money out of it for sure.

          http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/exec-tech/goog…

        • -1

Sure, that's the hardware costs. But factoring in Google's profit cut, Asus' cut, Australia tax and associated shipping costs…
I'm just saying, Officeworks will probably be more reluctant than usual to honour the 5% price beating, IMO.

        • They sell for $299 on the Play store, as well. Obviously the retailers would be getting something out of it, but if they're selling at a price equal to that of Google, it can't be that much.
Same can be said of Apple products, really.

      • They will allow for price match. It is a company policy. If you can anything selling lower even if it is for $10, officeworks will price match.

Though given the low profits, they'll probably undercut the competition by $1 to prevent price matching.

        • +1

I know what the policy is, the problem is in getting them to honour it.

        • Yeah which basically means they will have to honour it.

The real issue here is whether there will be an opportunity if any for price matching.

        • +1

I once had a manager try to get out of it and said all the websites were down, he then found one closer to the price and matched that but not with the 5%. I wrote an email to the officeworks site asking why they advertise the price matching and they gave me an extra $5 voucher because of it, so they do honour the deals, though sometimes reluctantly.

  • +2

It's tempting, but I think my next tablet will be a Microsoft Surface. Which had better come with SD slot.

    • +2

It does by all reports, both versions. I hope its not too expensive (the full fat version), it should pwn.

      • +1

there is also supposed to be some new tablets from Samsung and Asus amongst others for win 8 as well.

      • I think it will be expensive which is why they didn't mention the price at launch.

  • +1
    • +2

I had to ask for a better deal and I got it down to $299

    • With free shipping, so still works out cheaper than Google, right?

      Maybe they're cheaper in store?

  • -5

Anyone know when JB Hifi will have sales of brand name TV's like Samsung and LG etc. Would just have to keep checking their website and catalogues or just wait. I'm looking to spend under $800 for a 40" Samsung 100hz which I could use as a pc screen and has game mode.

    • -6

      I

    • post that to the forums mate, thanks

  • so are these in stock at JB? Can i go to the store and buy it?

    • no, the staff have not put them on display yet. just got back from adelaide cbd store

      • But Its in display in JB Hifi moorepark

      • the staff there probably jumped the gun

    • already sold out most places in Melbourne…apparently was in stock Friday and sold out Saturday Morning.

    • JBHIFI Hornsby have some in stock, saw stock around 20minutes ago. No idea about prices though.

  • Are any retailers stocking the 8GB version?

  • +4

A normal priced item is not really a bargain……..

    • -1

Well, it's below manufacturers cost, and the cheapest price you can have it in your hand for considering delivery costs otherwise.

      Let majority rule.

      • +4

        Below manufacturers cost?
U may also believe jb is losing money to sell it @299

      • I doubt a newly released tab such as this the resellers will be willing to sell it at a lose…..doesnt make sense if a business is not making money on these

        • See also 100 articles that say otherwise.

  • +4

As an alternative one could consider the Galaxy Tab 7.7 - for $329 incl delivery (+ another $10 off with TAB10OFF voucher) from Mobileciti. Posted a few days on 19/7/12.
Better screen, micro SD card slot.
Slower processor, still waiting on ICS.
I bought the 7.7 a few months ago with the AusPost 20% GG Cards.
    I think at $319 its a steal.

    • Dont forget the soon to be released Amazon Kindle Fire 2's (apparently 4 different versions)

    • Catch it quick. Sales ends tonight apparently.

The processor is just behind the Tegra3 though. Tegra3 is seriously way overhyped.

      • -1

        ?

      • -4

not clear. have no idea what you are referring too. neg.

    • FYI ICS is already out and now the tab flies.

      • Thanks - I'll update tonight

    • Is there any particular reason why people aren't voting this a better deal?

      • may be cuz there has been no proof provided!

  • Out in Western Melbourne Watergardens JB HiFi has them in stock but is quoting the $317 price. I didn't try to bargin with them though.

  • +2

    Is there a 10" version?

  • I think it is best for OP to upload the tax invoice in case price not consistant for all states.

  • how come there site says coming soon not in stock.if u go by registradus link i see them. has anyone ordered through that link.

  • -1

Gawd… I am sold! I know there are many like me who have more than one laptop, an iPad or equivalent is now thinking well this would be handy on the train to and fro from work. Should be easy on the wrist and convenient because it is not priced like iPads or other high PERFORMING tablets. So I don;t have to be easy on it.

    • 277.37 AUD Shipped actually, this is Ozb! 63 cents count haha just kidding but yeah good find.

    • -1

Although since this is from the US you could be waiting for quiet some time since google has stopped shipping the 16gb in the US and UK. Possible 1-2 months wait depending. unless Asus steps up production. Lets hope they do.

  • +3

16gb is Ok I suppose. Now if only unlimited internet was more widespread in aus, it would make life much easier. All this move towards "cloud" storage is good but with our sheety internet limits, they are rather useless. By the way guys, the graphics is good on the nexus but the games are huge too. Games with great graphics often take an average of 1gb. factor in your movies into the nexus. you're going to have a bad time eventually.

    • +2

You can use Stickmount from Google Play if you want to be able to access files via USB memory drives.

      • -1

I would think the Nexus7 would do this natively with a standard OTG connector/cable.

        • +1

Actually it needs rooting before OTG works guys.

        • +1

Actually there is NO native USB Mass Storage support via USB OTG: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6061/mhl-and-usbotg-on-the-nex…

You do indeed have to root and install a third party app to get it to work.

        • -1

i got negged… really? - if you neg me enough you wont see the replies which resolve the issue of OTG.

  • dont forget u have the choice of remote storage companies, through apps. 16g i would use for gear that i need immediately or use all the time, otherwise i would store the rest on the cloud or other offline storage companies.
most give a good storage amount for free.

  • Visited JB Hifi Eastgardens. They looked out the back but could not confirm if any of the unopened boxes were the Nexus 7. He said I could get the Galaxy 2 7in for $286 but this screen is only 1024 BUT has micro sd. I passed. I'm following the herd :)

    • Me as well but I saw the real one…

It is quite thick and they can only sell it for $317.

      • i saw it too today. samsung 7.7 is still more appealing, imo.

      • I am surprised this deal has so many votes seeing as JB Hi-Fi are not exactly selling it for $299 - OP got lucky with whoever served him as I don't think the price has been repeated.

I would be keen to know if someone else manages to get it at JB for $300…

  • I bought one from jbhifi bourke st. melbourne for $290 on friday !! You might have to haggle a bit to get this price !

    • hi niksrulz, another request for a photo or scan of the receipt please!

  • Niksrulz —- It will be great if you can please upload the receipt of the same :D

  • +1

I have requested $19.95 refund from google.. item shipping did not take 2 days and pre-order pointless as stock available in JB before I got my order adn cheaper.
