Menulog - Sydney Drivers Keep Stealing Orders

Anyone else in Sydney have this problem?

I wait outside. then it will say "delivered" and driver never came to my door.

I had this happen to me 3 times in the last 2 months while using "vouchers"

2/3 times. they did it right as the restaurant was closing so i couldn't re-order because by the time i realized. it was after they closed.

1st one was a maccas order. thought if i stayed away from maccas. I'll be safe.

The other 2/3 were café orders with coffee.

This has never happened to me on uber eats.

I have a suspicion they look at the receipt that's taped to the bag and saw "voucher used on the receipt" and stole it knowing that i didn't pay full price for my order and they know my order included a coffee.

If you need to spend so much time outside waiting for your order, why not just go and pick it up?

Maybe he doesn't have a license or a car.

      • +3

Get out of here with your logic!

      • -1

Unlikely to have a "license" unless he is American. But perhaps you meant "Licence".

I am using the vouchers posted on Ozbargain that is restricted to delivery only. the voucher is $15 off $20 orders.

a $20 order becomes $5 + $2 delivery fee totalling $7 for my meal which includes a large coffee.

i wouldn't be ordering off menulog without these vouchers.

  • +7

Why would it matter if you paid full price or not…

Did you ask CS about it? Did you get refunded? did you consider NOT using menulog ?

stealing menulog order, scamming on gumtree, its basically the wild west because of the 'skill shortage'

When I was a kid at McDonald's the teenage workers would sneak food all the time. Even though the manager tracked sales vs ingredient orders, and itemised the wastage bin after each shift, so they knew what was being eaten. Workers didn't care.

      • Don't they get a free meal on their breaks anyway?

        • I dunno. That's a good idea though to retain workers, if they can look forward to food each shift.

        • Probably not all time (def not for standard team members, Managers yeah more likely). I think HJ gives or used to give free food to managers while at work. Thinkin similar stuff at McDonalds.

Unless may be like team member does really good work or cover a desperately needing to be covered shift then may be more likely team member gets free meal.

Drinks may be a different case. my guess is drinks are free for staff.

        • I didn't, I think I got 30% discount. This was like 2001-2002.

However the discount was larger in the sense that if you ordered a McFlurry you got about ten times as much topping as a normal customer etc

        • I use to get a free meal back in the late 80’s.

Happened to me 2 times in Victoria as well. Both were for chickens. The first was Menulog, second was Doordash that we ordered directly from the restaurant. Got refunded eventually, but really pissed as we were hungry and in both occasions it was late so everything else was already closed by then. I have heard that this happens quite often. That means there is no consequences whatsoever to the thief, so they can keep doing it.

Btw does anyone know if Menulog drivers are meant to take pictures of the orders they drop off like Uber Eats drivers do..

Also Op, I don’t think a driver would care how you paid for your order. If he/she is stealing from you, they are probably also stealing from people that paid full price for their orders.

    • +1

take pictures of the dropped off orders like Uber Eats drivers do..

In my experience it's only uber and doordash that do this

      • +1

I’ve had several Doordash orders stolen by the driver. Typically the tracking will track the car to somewhere relatively near my house (maybe 300-500 meters away). Then the item will say it’s delivered and the driver never shows

    • +1

What prevents driver to eat after taking picture, and leaving food there after eating part of it (ofcorse trying to pack it as neatly as possible after stealing) ??

      • +1

What prevents driver to eat after taking picture, and leaving food there after eating part of it

        Not much really
But atleast the picture they take is meant to somewhat cover the background location that can be reviewed later.
In op’s case, the driver never even showed up to their house.
Anyways, it was just a question because I do order food from Menulog quite frequently.
Luckily, I have never had to put with such BS

  • Perhaps they think the orders contain lucky charms?

  • It’s basically free food all paid by you

    • *Paid for by the restaurant (Hopefully the Cafe's OP ordered from are not small businesses)

How many times altogether did you order takeaway in the last 2 months? eg Was it 2-3 times out of 5 orders or 2-3 times out of 100?

  • how surprising…. /S

  • Maybe you live in a confusing street and it gets mixed up with someone else's address? I've ordered many times and can't say its happened to me

  • Happened to me 3 times in one night on Doordash. Got a refund each time and reordered. Didn’t order again for months, but just caved recently lol

    • Report to Menulog,
    • They will track that driver never delivered to your house (via their onboard GPS).
    • You will get a refund.
    • Driver will consume your food at the cost of the food establishment (Hopefully the Cafe's OP ordered from are not small businesses).
    • Driver will get a warning.
    • Put your order through again.
    • Get your food delivered.
    • Consume your food.
    • Except I did this and lost 3 orders in a row. Think I ended up eating instant noodles or something.

everybody wants stuff cheap, including deliveries. So the drivers get paid crap - not enough to live on. Something's gotta give. That's also why there's a labor shortage in the cafe industry. We took away penalty rates for all those folk, mostly casual workers. Surprise surprise

    • +3

Wouldn't it be better for the driver to get a different job instead of accepting one that pays too low and stealing to make up the difference?

  • -3

well they probably got scared delivering in the housing commission.

  • At least you didn’t get food… anything I have ordered through menulog comes stone cold. It’s like they drive around with it for an hour with the ac running flat out and only delivering it once it’s deemed inediblely cold.

    • Heat it in a microwave?

I've had orders stolen by Menulog drivers.

One time the driver came to the door, did NOT ring the bell, dropped the bag off right in front of the door - like, right in front of it so I had to knock it over to open the door, and kept a pizza.

I called Menulog right away and asked them to contact the driver but Menulog insisted they can't call them, have no way of contacting them, etc., and simply said they'd provide a refund.

I sent them the video footage from my doorbell camera because Menulog said the driver is meant to ring the bell, but I have no idea if they ever acted on it.

However, I also contacted the store. They told me Menulog charge them for items they refund. However, the store had footage themselves of the driver collecting the bag of food and the pizza. I gave my video to them to take it up with Menulog.

It happened again - the Menulog driver dropped off food but not the pizza, but this time I raced out and caught the driver and he said "oh, sorry" and pulled the pizza out of his car. He didn't even act surprised like "oops, sorry, I forgot about it."

Menulog drivers know Menulog doesn't hold them accountable and simply charge the store for any theft / refunds.

I won't use Menulog again because I don't trust their drivers, and I know the so-called support team don't care.

    Not the same but almost

I use medical marijuana (yee haw) and i have had 2 packages stolen by a postie since november, 1st one had a $700 value

This is a common event happening in certain pockets of Brisbane and elsewhere according to other posters on reddit. (and before you ask pharmacies post the weed once you send them your script, its common practise)

I have like 15-20 parels dellivered a week and these are the only ones to have gone missing.

Seems there is no checks and balances to stop stealing even though there can be no coincidence. its happening a lot

  • This is what happens when firms don't care about workers rights and governments allow staff to be classified as non-employees/contractors.

The only people that win are app companies as they can deny any association with the downstream partners.

Workers don't care as they are treated poorly and get paid a pittance, customers always return to the app as they are lazy and rich and governments won't enact laws as the app platforms are willing to spend millions in the courts countering any laws that treat gig-workers as staff.

It's a dystopian world we are heading towards. The gig-economy is nothing new or high-tech. It's just a modern Dickensian work house where governments are 100% complicit with the exploitation of desperate people.

    • +1

The food will be stolen regardless of pay and classification.

You obviously think that once you go above a certain pay scale that bad people suddenly become good people or something.

      • No, they (and I) KNOW that if you pay people a living wage, there's less NEED for pilfering. It's a symptom of, (and some of you know what I'm about to repeat) 21st Century serfdom.

@samfisher5986 Keep supporting Howard's legacy that led to increasingly unaffordable housing, demonised unions and sought to disadvantage workers at every opportunity. JobChoices may have backfired on the Coalition, but they just about got there incrementally.
Keep supporting every half-arsed "Disruptive" idea that answers non-existent questions.
Champion short-term rentals cos you're a rent-taker / it's what 'ol Johnny approves of / supports some dodgy Silicone valley hucksters.

      • we learn nothing from history - Marie Antoinette syndrome. Personally I think ignorance is a choice for many.

  • My last few orders from menulog were many months ago because they would consistently end up taking 2-3 hours.
    Yeah, nah.
    Once is bad luck.
    Twice is coincidence.
    Three times is a pattern.

  • Could it be that they delivered it to the wrong house? It's happened to me but with Uber. it happened last year twice. Once with Oporto and another Krispy Kreme, lol

  • This happens to me with Uber eats. I always have a missing items in my order.
Something that I have always noticed when this happens, the delivery driver will park a few meters away from house even through there is parking available in front of the house..
Secondly the person takes a long time to out of the car.
Thirdly the bag is torn open even if it was sealed by the restaurant using staples or tape.

Some of the couriers you see doing the pickups from restaurants do look underfed/hungry. Real skinny types.

  • +1

Use Hand it to me instead of Leave at door.
Leave a note as well to call and hand it to you instead of selecting contact less delivery.

    • thanks for the tip. will try and see if this makes a difference in the future

  • Don't know about Menulog drivers but Uber Drivers might! On the topic of driver behaviour though, has anyone here ever been the first delivery of an Uber Driver's delivery route? Maybe I'm just unlucky but I always get "XXXX is on their way and they have 1 stop on the way" Why always 1 stope before me ? Its a conspiracy I tell you!

    • lol

Hardly a conspiracy - this used to happen to us as well if we ordered during the peak lunch or dinner times & we are farther away from the restaurant.

    • I now sometimes pay for priority if I wanted the food quick

  • Think I just had a Menulog order stolen. Map showed driver was a couple of streets away. Said delivered on the screen, but nothing.
