Need a New Android Phone, 12GB RAM Preferable

Hi guys. I mostly use my Android phone for playing Pokemon go. My current phone is a Pixel 4 I got for $600 and it's done well for almost 3 years, Unfortunately the 6gb RAM doesn't cut it. Multi-tasking when Messenger or Pokemon go is open is impossible. I dislike big screens, but it seems that to get the extra RAM you generally have to get the flagship phone with the big screen. Been looking at a Pixel 7 Pro, do you think there'll be discounts after the galaxy launches?

Budget ideally is $1000-$1399 more than double what I paid for the pixel 4 :(

Are there any upcoming phones I should hold out for. I might try doing a factory reset on the pixel to see if I can get a few more months out of it.

Pixel 7 Pro is probably the sensible choice if it must be Android.

Samsung is usually better value for money.
      Otherwise an iPhone 13.

It has a big screen, but the rog phone 5s I've found good for Pokemon go. Using the available macros is helpful too, as is the RAM and battery life.

    Really…? With 6GB of RAM?

Not sure if you can still get it new as it is a gen or two old now, but I bought an Oppo Find X3 Pro for $800 around August last year which has 12gb RAM.

    • I got one too but the Telstra branded version so a year without updates…. The curved screen is a PITA for screen protectors too.

      • Mine is the unbranded dual sim version. Sorry to say I am running Android 13 and got a security update last week!

Despite how dusty it got around the edges initially, I haven't taken the stock screen protector off yet.

Nowadays, a lot of companies advertise some form of virtual RAM using some of your storage (Samsung have their RAM plus and there were other companies who did those).

While it would be worse than having actual 12GB RAM, those with 8GB + 4GB (from your storage) RAM might broaden your option. I have a S21 FE that has 8GB RAM that can go up 16GB of memory with RAM plus.

Probably gonna get downvoted…… is Pokemon Go really essential?

No downvote from me, but I mean the OP said that is what they mainly use their phone for. Not sure why there needs to be a judgement on that.

List of all android phones with 12gb ram. If you click refine search, you can add additional criteria like screen size, sd card etc etc.

  • refined from CodeXD's filter:

    https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nRamMin=12000&sOSes=2&…

Which listed all the current&sense-able processors.

Keep in mind if you decided to buy any of the following: OPPO/VIVO/Xiaomi/Realme/OnePlus etc, make sure you get a western country/india edition, or else you may find some small hiccups like:

tuned for Chinese market — freeze background task to against battery drain(for example, gmail is not in whitelist so you'll never receive a gmail notification)
no android auto integrated, you won't able to use android auto
may need to download Google Play store yourself
Google wallet may or may not work

unless you know how to flash rom, and there happen to be a ROM that allow you to flash to, and re-lock the bootloader.

  • OnePlus 11 launched today with 16gb ram for $1350! (With code.) Not cheap, but the ratio of price to ram is impressive :)
