Diamondback Outlook 27.5 Mountain Bike 70cm $159, save $190

Hi everyone. Some mountain bikes being cleared out at Big W. As usual with clearance items, these may not be at your local store or may not be at this clearance price. I tried ordering one from a couple of different places and delivery killed the deal if they delivered at all. I don't know if they offer free delivery at all for these.

I don't know much about bikes so I'll leave how good/bad these are up to the community. Maybe some of these bikes are just OK for getting you to the train station or something like that.

lol budget dual suspension… please don't

    18kg+ too

plenty of better options as heaps of bike sales are on

    • +4

      At least they include pedals.

      • -2

I'm pretty sure 18kg includes the box too :-)

    • Any suggestions for a decent budget bike?

      • +2

        FB Market Place.

  • May be state specific. I can see $199 for Repco charger

  • Yep no discounted prices displaying when I go to the page

    • +1

I tried QLD and NSW for one of the bikes and it was at the clearance price. Just did a VIC one and yeah it doesn't show the discounted price. Seems like Perth may not have joined the party either, at least for the bike I looked at.

      • Ah! It worked when I specified what my local store is. Could be worth putting that detail into your original post.

        • I did try to mention that it may not be at your local and even if it is, it may not be at the clearance price. It's stung me too many times with Big W posts so I always mention it now.

  • Is the 29" diamond big enough for someone 6.4?

    • I think 29" is like the largest size bike you can normally buy, you might have to put the seat all the way up but i should be cromulent.

    • +5

29" is the wheel size, nothing to do with frame or rider height.

You'll need to find a bike that is sold in multiple sizes and choose the large frame. Forget "one size fits all" bikes like these if you are 6.4 , or even if only 6'4".
Forget BigW or Kmart. I think ALDI has sold large frames though.

    Good for junkies

  • Would these be equivalent to cheap merida bike ?

    • Hard to tell without more details on the specs.

      But unlikely.

  • Vic isn't discounted but would still recommend finding something that isn't going to fall apart if you ride it once.

My 15 year old $400 special from the local bike shop is still being ridden 30km twice a week. Has some wear and tear on but I know when I pull the brakes the bike will stop.

    • So you are suggesting to avoid BigW? What do you mean by "local "?

  • -5

Better to spend at least $4k on a high yield investment bike instead of being at high risk of a frame explosion while riding and getting shrapnel in the leg

    • +2

What do you mean by high yield investment? Intrigued.

    • Is frame explosion a thing?!

  • Mountain bike inspired bicycles. Do not take off road.

Surely this is all one needs to ride around the local neighbourhood parks and bike tracks with your kids right?

I'm not going to be training for a triathlon, cycling to work or doing any very long distances, just to spend some time with the kids and getting us all 'moving' essentially is the goal for me… what's your thoughts?

      • +1

Neighbourhood parks and anywhere your kids will ride is fine, assuming your kids are not into mountain biking too. Not just the quality of parts and risk of injury but the weight of the bicycle will make climbing most mountain bike trails a real pain.

        • Perfect, appreciate that.. I think this bike might be ok for my basic needs, sounds like it's great value at this price..
          - I'm thinking to avoid the one with rear suspension as apparently that is often an issue on cheaper bikes, but the disk breaks are apparently worth getting so might go with that :-)

          • @Jonc: Sounds like you know better than me :). So what is your choice for basic city cycling? Looking for one too.

            • +1

@amorn: I'm also not too sure yet but based on the options above I'm thinking about the "Diamondback Outlook 27.5 Mountain Bike 70cm $159" (save $190)

        • Definitely get the hard tail.

But if you’re mostly commuting, you may benefit from a bike with narrower tires, and less chunky tires - basically will roll a lot better on the hard surfaces, whether road or pavement.

    • are these reliable for commuting around city? I am in brisbane which is quite hilly. TY

  • "Unsafe at any speed"

  • Are they real brands like Diamondback, etc. as they suggest or …?

  • Shows $439 for me in WA..

  • is it online only? called Taigum up, insists this one is not on clearance and 439$.

    • BigW clearance items can be store specific for whatever reason. Best bet is to see see where stock is around you and change your delivery location and store to those particular stores. The page should update and show you the pricing of that store.

  • Im just not convinced i can put one together safely
