Polarised Sunglasses. Alternative to Ray Ban

So I've always bought ray ban polarised but lately they have been bad quality. Lenses getting cracks, film peeling on them.

So need something else. Sick of paying a fortune on sunnies for them to be in the bin in a year. What's the ozbargain polarised sunglass of choice.

Maui Jim are the best and have a really great warranty/repair service. Have heard multiple stories of people sending their sunnies in for repair and getting a new pair even outside of warranty.

I have a pair of Oakley polarised as well which are nice. I don't wear them every day so can't attest to how long they last.

    • -1 for Oakleys, my $300 pair peeled after 1.5 years of moderate use. Before and after Oakleys I have only used Polaroid sunnies, $30-50 a pair and they don't peel, crack or warp even after dropping. They are virtually indestructable.
I even have a pair that must be 10+ years old that knock about in the car and I use at the beach or when gardening, no scrathes on the lenses (that can be seen anyway) and they have not been cared for at all.

  • $20 sunglasses from chemist, service station or souvenir shop.

    • $20 - You got to be kidding! $7 aliexpress. I buy several. Then swap them out when i break/lose them.

$30 from cancer council stores if you have one nearby. The designs are quite copy cat to known brands.

    • Cancer council sunnies are made by Luxottica..

Maui Jims all the way, lightweight, many styles and many lens types.

Also invest in some sperrys while at it.

  • I got given a pair of spotters for my birthday last year - really nice glasses but I would have a hard time justifying paying $300 for them myself tbh

Before that I was using uv wraps from bunnings. Paid like $25 for them a few years ago and was perfect when I was right into Dragon boating.

  • As others have said, Maui Jim is a great choice. Not cheap, but simply can't fault them in my experience.

Otherwise, for cheaper price points the Cancer Council provide good value for money.

  • Been a Ray Ban person myself and nothing compares to the older stuff (stole my dad's vintage pair from the 80's and they're the best I've had).
Dad now rates his Serengeti glasses so hopefully a suitable alternative

  • There are thousands of brands online. Look at Vision Direct etc.

I have prescription polarised and never had any issues with lenses no matter where I got them.

  • I bought these. Haven't worn them very often, but happy so far.

  • Ray Ban engrave their company name on the lenses, don't they? Why would you pay a premium for that?

  • Heatwave sunglasses. Or maybe some premium looking ones from AliExpress

  • Cancer council ones have been good quality bought 2 pairs couple years back going strong.

  • I have a few pairs of Hawkers that gets thrown around and are still good.

  • These are the ones I have, and it only cost $35.20
