great price for a full aluminium board. I have the q1 and after some modding (force break mod), it's pretty nice.

The Qx is very nice - I got a Q6 with brown switches last year. Very thocc

  • The only reason for this over Ducky etc is the style/customisation and wireless right?

    • Build quality, QMK/VIA compatability, gasket mount, etc. among others

      • So yea customisations hey. Nearly every keyboard can setup basic commands/change mapping etc - I understand you can change backlighting too with QMK/VIA. Why is build quality better? Have used Ducky's at work for over a decade, just changed keycaps once, not sure what I would change build quality wise? Ducky is cheaper obviously, wired, and can be used for more than just office work with lower latency.

I'm looking at a new home keyboard, and I do like the style of the Keychron which is obviously pushing many, but limiting being focused more on typing than supporting gaming too

        • The casing is actually made out of aluminum, which seems to be one of the main push for the price?
At least I thought that was the case comparing the V10 and Q10, I was kinda thinking about going with Q10.

Ducky was solid for what it was (I had one, it's with my ex-wife now so I can't really comment on it). Nothing too much I can comment on (outside of maybe the keycap feeling bit slightly worse than ones than third party ones but that's coming from a guy who likes high profile keycaps with thick plastic like SA or MT3).

I personally went for Keychron V10 because I didn't want to fork out few hundreds of dollars on work keyboard (again) and because I like plastic body more (I hate the cold feeling of metal in the morning and I like lighter keyboards, especially at the workplace)

          • @iridiumstem: Yea hard sell when ducky is just over $100 and has decent latency for gaming too. Tossing up between a Filco and Ducky at this stage. We have one filco at work, and it's just under 10 years old, and still on original keycaps while still feeling really nice (after a clean). I do like the retro style of the keychron though.

@onlinepred: Which is pretty much preference thing I think. I have a Leopold at work that I think is solid (I changed it so that it takes USB-C).

In terms of the keycaps, as I said, more of a preference from me, I like keycaps that are thick (which Ducky wasn't).

Some people might go about different feels, but… this might be bit controversial, but I personally found the difference between different mounting styles to be not as big as some people make it out to be? Regardless I think it's more preference thing, some people don't want that cushioning effect some people die for and that's perfectly fine.

I am honestly struggling to think about what would give one mechanical keyboard advantage over another, outside of certain specific limitations. Some mechanical keyboards potentially don't have NKRO which isn't the case here, I think, Cherry MX Blue style clicky switches will need to "reset" before they re-register a keypress, hysteresis, which I think is more of a feature. There are features that come with Keychron, that if you don't want need it, you might as well not pay for those features.

The word "preference" comes to my mind, which would be very subjective.

      fyi, Q series is wired.

Custom keeb is about how the frame allows for more fine tuning in sound and feel department. But if this is not something in your interest then any other keyboard will do just fine.

I have a Keychron K8 bluetooth tkl and a ducky one tkl. Both with browns. The ducky has a better feel in the key material, cherry brown switch > gateron, and nicer presentation, however the K8 is my daily driver so no complaints. Both are quality KB's.

    • I've got the K8 buy cannot get it to connect to Win 10 PC by bluetooth (yes, my PC has BT) so have it wired. Have you connected via BT?
