You're wrong about the resolution. A 29" 21:9 cannot in any way be compared to a 16:9 montor. A 29" 21:9 monitor is actually slightly lower in height than a 22" 16:10 monitor! As such, the 1080p resolution is perfectly fine.

I own a 25" 1080p 21:9 ultrawide (also from LG) and I've used other ultrawides in the past. I still think the resolution is a bit too low as someone who likes to have decent information density, tho in full transparency, I've used a 34" 1440p 21:9 ultrawide before and I usually have to bump up scaling anyway. Perhaps I'm being too negative but from my experience 25" at 1080p is already too small lol, can't imagine 29" at 1080p

I had the old version of this monitor and it was fine, it's just a 24 inch monitor that is 30% wider. It was great for productivity as I had the wide centre screen for spreadsheets flanked by a 24 inch 144hz for games on one side a basic 24 inch dell vertically on the other side. I've upgraded to a 34inch 1440p middle now and had to drop the vertical monitor, and while I like the extra space on the main monitor having the third monitor offering something different was really helpful for documents or long tables.
Work have upgraded us to 2x 32 inch 4k displays and once you get used to the overwhelming size all that space is a game changer, we also got mx mice and I've bought my own mechanical keyboard. More companies should invest in their IT peripherals instead of the crappiest dell monitors paired with the $5 mouse and keyboards. Staff are using this stuff 40 hours a week, you don't give a tradie a $10 drill from Bunnings so why give admin a keyboard that feels like typing on a stale baguette.

Agree. 1080 on a 24” I find too low for anything but gaming on a low spec PC. For work, it’s far too low, and will be no good at all on a ultrawide 29”.

Yes, it is IPS. https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/66c02ca7
Keep in mind that this is the old model too, the latest model of this (29U531A) has a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode and is actually cheaper if you can find stock.

It's $227 at OW, and $218 at Retravision

For gamers, I imagine its still better to spend the same amount of money on 2 24 inch monitors instead of 1 wide monitor.
I know I was tempted by one of these back in the day. But with somewhat limited support for ultrawide in games (Haven't check recently) and having 2 monitors allows for guides, and discord to be open on the other monitor while gaming
Maybe its a different story for work purposes though.

I use a 21:9 for gaming and set my games to play in a 16:9 window in the centre of the screen which allows for a panel to the left and right of the game to display things like discord / notes / other applications etc. It serves a similar purpose while all contained on the single monitor, gaming in full screen 21:9 was not very comfortable for me as the UI elements are generally too far away from the centre of the screen and 2 separate monitors was a waste of space as the 2nd monitor was not used enough to be worth being there.

Good things to consider then.

I switched to an ultrawide two years ago and I've found that almost all games support them, and the rare single player game that doesn't can almost always be easily modded to.
That said, a second monitor is still always handy.

I've been gaming on this resolution for years and never have a problem, bonus is you don't need a hugely powerful gpu to get decent frame rates too.

Good to know, I got convinced otherwise when I bought my monitors 3 years ago, so maybe I'm just justifying it for myself lol.

Not a deal tbh. Dont buy any 1080 in 2025

1080 is fine for most people at this size, nearly all businesses use 1080 22 or 24 inch monitors and users don't complain about the resolution, and that is what this is the equivalent of. Going higher resolution for basic tasks is a bit of a waste of money in most people's lives. Personally I'm looking at 1440p at 27 inches but I'm not most people with my use cases.

If you are buying a monitor for yourself with your own money, would you buy 1080p now in 2025? Its different to a monitor provided by your work, they need to cut the cost.

Would I? No, but would I for my wider family who don't notice the difference between 1080p and 4k content on their 50 inch TV? Yes I would. My need is not everyone else's need, and I'd say for most people at this size 1080p is still fine. Work upgraded most people to a 1440 better monitor, all everyone saw was bigger, not more pixels.

Media content is rendered differently compared to text mate. This is a monitor, not a TV for content only.

I need a second monitor to pair with my 42 inch. Am looking for something 'long" rather than wide ie 3:2 aspect ratio. LG dual up or BenQ 28 fits the bill but they are too expensive for a second monitor. Anyone has any recommendations?

Can anyone help me. Looking for a monitor for extended uses time for studying with webcam and speakers. With low blue light to protect eyes. 27 inches size. Price is not a problem

Had this and sold it. Res is just to obviously low, especially for text.

We have these at work (well the 29WP400's) and OMG they're awful.
If you're after a super-cheap ultra-wide, then yeah, it's better than a normal 24" but otherwise I'd look to get something 1440p at least, esp for productivity!

IMO 1080p on a 29" is a bit too low. On a regular 16:9 27" I find 1080p is not enough resolution, at minimum 1440p. But beggars can't be choosers, and it's at least an IPS panel to my knowledge. Not curved is a plus as well in my view.
