Medjool Dates 1kg (Boxed) $12.99 @ ALDI

720

These dates are often eaten as a snack or used in cooking and baking. They can be eaten fresh or dried and are commonly used in recipes for desserts, energy bars, and smoothies. Medjool dates are also high in fiber, potassium, and other nutrients, making them a healthy addition to a well-rounded diet.

Medjool dates have a sweet and caramel-like flavor and a soft, chewy texture. They are often pitted before being used in recipes or eaten as a snack, but can also be left whole with the pit intact. Medjool dates are also commonly used as a natural sweetener in recipes and are a popular alternative to refined sugar.

Damn, I thought I needed a date for yesterday, not today.

Edit: This joke actually falls apart because the deal is in a week. Oh well.

    • +1

the only dates I get for Valentine day

      • The cheaper ones at least

        • at least we don't get asked for a ring

        • +1

Ozbargain should start a ozbargain dating app. Cheap dating. Hahaha

          • +1

            @mckayver: meet where? KFC?

          • +1

@mckayver: I don't think it's funny. This should happen. A major cause of divorce is finances. A couple that does not agree on how money should be spent is headed for disaster. It would be a great benefit to know up front that the person you are dating is as money conscious as you are.

            • +2

@Yola: I agree with you, but also
imagine the arguments about who got the better deal

            • +2

@Yola: I was joking but in all seriousness probably a good idea.

              • +1

@mckayver: I have thought about this many times before,
and it was not a joke, because as long as your ideals and values align,
especially when it's centred around living life in a frugal yet financially modest way,
you will eliminate a majority of the friction.

It's only when either of the couple has a competitive mindset,
is when you start getting the problems…. as it can also become an obsession.

  • not organic tough

    • What's the difference?

      • +24

Non-organic toughness is not as tough as organic toughness

As these are non-organic there's a risk that your trailer will roll away if you use them to chock the wheels

        • +6

So I might need two kg in order to stop trailer rolling away ?

        • +2

Toyota recommends organic for its trucks.

    • +4

      not organic tough

      titties…

  • +2

    Good price for medjool dates!

    • +4

      Depends on the quality.

      • +4

Isn't that true for everything? I've found the dates sold in Aldi to be just as good as the Colesworth ones based on past experience.

        • +2

          Isn't that true for everything?

Correct…. Thus questioning your first comment.

          • +2

@jv: The quality is the same as it's elsewhere so hopefully your question is answered.

            • +2

@CocaKoala: Are the ALDI/Colesworth Medjools "organic"? Wife won't be impressed if they're not up to the Costco quality.

              • +1

@Igaf: Sorry, I never cared for organic or Costco so I cannot really answer.

                • +4

@CocaKoala: Just found an old ALDI ad which says organic. Will have a look when they arrive. Thanks for your info.

                  Don't feed the troll.

              rubbish

              • +1

@jv: Much less rubbish than your comments here.

                • +2

@CocaKoala: I think you win the "rubbish comment of the day" award…

You claim they are the same as Costco, but then state you've never tried the Costco ones.

Well it's a day late for dates for the people on this website, but hey at least you'll have enough for the rest of your lives!

      So is Easter.

  • And Medjool dates on sale is a reminder that Valentine's Day has just been

  • "A popular alternative to refined sugar"….. so what I am supposed to put dates in my coffee?

    • +6

Arabic coffee is typically unsweetened and you take tiny bites of dates in between sips

Also dates can be used in baking instead of sugar

      • +1

Spoken like a true masterbaker. Or should i say, bargain masterbaker

Great for making bliss balls for school lunches. Have done Salted caramel and Chocolate (cacao) ones using these and the kids love them. Even our fussy son that barely likes anything…

When's the expiry on these? Can I get them now to give as Ramadan or Eid gifts?

    • +3

You will have to check the dates

    Happy Ramadan everyone!

    • next month

    • He has a point, to a point. ALDI's a very mixed bag imo. Reports suggest they are much better OS, which only adds to the notion that Australian execs are happy to provide second best, or alternatively add an 'Au tax'.

  • Does anybody know if these are fresh or dried?

  • +1

Could not find it at the local Aldi, what's going on??

    • Plenty in Kawana (Qld).

  • Macro Organic Dates are $9/kg; why is this a deal? (Or is it just a "special"?)

  • +2

Just picked up these dates yesterday from Aldi.
The $12.99 for a kg dates on special are from Mexico.
Mine were dry and thus far inferior from the loose medjool dates that Coles sells which are just more succulent.
So not worth the cheaper price.

  • Finally found some in stock at their South Melbourne store, so I grabbed a couple of boxes
