Here for the comment of Eufy privacy breach

And paying $281 for the pleasure too.

    • My doorbell is taking pictures of my anus while I water my plants in the nude and uploading them to the cloud! rabble rabble!

Just a public service announcement that these were caught out sending private information "home" to Anker while simultaneously claiming (indeed promoting as a feature) that they do not send any information anywhere. It took Anker almost two months to comment on the findings and promote fixes, all while private information and accessible video feeds were available and made public.

    https://www.theverge.com/23573362/anker-eufy-security-camera…

All of this is a shame of course, the quality of the items are otherwise great, and usually Anker makes some amazing items at a good price, but since we are talking video here of you and your family, I thought it was worth mentioning! Of course all the brands do this, Anker is not the only one out there, but they at least don't claim the contrary!

    • +1

A lot of this was over-hyped e.g. to get "accessible video feeds" you needed to know the serial number of the camera, you needed the user's login and password and it only worked whilst the camera was awake i.e. activated by by the owner.

This is not great and Anker handled it poorly for sure but they have now responded and addressed the issues.

      • Doesn't matter if you had to jump through hoops to be able to do it, the point is that it's possible and they specifically advertised it as not being possible.

Don't be an apologist for a company that did a shit job at securing user data.

    • Still definitely not as bad as Medibank, who knew that they had security problems back in 2018, but didn't act fast enough. now our personal medical information is circulating on the web.

Even with the privacy issues, I'm considering buying their system.

If I want wireless cameras and doorbell, others seem to have either subscription, customer service issues, person detection issues, video quality issues, etc.

Happy if anyone has any suggestions of other systems that have a wifi doorbell (gate unlock would be best), wifi cameras and don't have subscriptions or the other issues.

I'm very happy with my Eufy set up, it works well. I'm over listening to the hype about Anker issues.

    • +6

I weighed it up amd went with Eufy. I personally think they all do it, just haven't been exposed. Tbh I have a boring ass life and if they want to watch me, have at it 🤣

  • Anybody mounted one of these directly on the face of the door? Is there a mounting solution that doesn't ruin the door too much?

    • +2

This is a battery model and If it's the same mounting as their other doorbells, you only need a couple of screws.

Not sure how you could avoid that and still have it attached reliably.

Here's the manual, including mounting instructions:

My friend used the strong tape from Bunnings for his ring doorbell

On Amazon, search for 'VMEI Anti-Theft Doorbell Mount Design for eufy Video Doorbell 1080P'.

Although not specifically for the Dual Cam, a couple of user reviews/comments mentioned they'd DIY'ed a solution. Take a look at those to see if it's something you can or want to do.

Edit: Am currently using a similar product for the 2K doorbell, was lazy to do the DIY stuff and only used 1x screw to attach the doorbell to that door mount. Has been 3x months, and thankfully no-one has attempted to rip it off the door mount.

  • I bought an add on and then realised I need the chime. Anyone know if I can get just a chime somewhere?

    • You could get the eufy home base which works as a chime second hand from marketplace…

      • Yep do this!!

  • Got eufy door bell + homebase 2 around a year, about the privacy issue people talking about, do they just hack my video outside my home? or everything in my home network?

    • -1

Once someone's made it past your firewall and is on your network, you've lost a key defence. You should then assume that it's only a matter of time (or already too late) until they can get to the rest of your network.

    • +2

No hacking. It's just that they were lying when they said ALL video and information was local and not stored in the cloud. They temporarily store videos in the cloud to stream to your phone.

  • For those without a homebase 2, this deal looks pretty solid https://www.pbtech.com/au/product/CCTEFY3105/Eufy-Wire-Free-…
Homebase and this doorbell for $398.74 delivered

  • Does the homebase 3 make any difference?

    • +1

I am fairly sure it is compatible with Homebase 3 (380) as well, and I think (but not certain) that it should inherit the IA features (facial rec, pet & vehicle detection etc) that is built into HB3.

I have a fairly new EufyCam 3 setup with HB3, 4x EufyCam 3 (330) 4K solar cameras & 2x add-on EufyCam 2 Pro 2K cameras, but no video doorbell, so I have no direct experience of how the doorbell works with HB3.

  • Is this one of the types of door bell that collects your video and sends it to third parties without your knowledge?

Or am I mistaking this for another brand?

    • Not third parties. They securely host videos on their Amazon servers to feed it to your phone. Take "securely" with a pinch of salt. You've read the articles, I'm sure.

As long as you're okay with it, you're fine. I have their doorbell and love it. I don't have any indoor cameras, and I never will.

      • I can't recall which company it was that sent video to a third party when requested, I think it was in the US and to a government authority such as police force and for a valid reason, but nonetheless I'd like this type of solution without any of the data going anywhere for any reason unless I authorize it.

Is that available from any of the brands that sell these devices?

        • +1

As far as I know, this is the only one that has on-site storage. Everything else is cloud-based with a subscription.

For complete local storage, you'd have to look at those Swan security cameras.

  • Not a bad deal. I have Hikvision NVR and cameras and thinking of buying this which also comes with a screen which can also be used to view NVR cameras + Intercom and the recording from the doorbell automatically gets uploaded to NVR (once configured). Any feedback / comment on Hikvision Intercom kit?
