    Looks worth $20 not $63.

If you do a quick google search with the exact description, google still shows that Bunnings has it for $63.25. It has only one review of 5 stars, so I can't tell with certainty what it really worths.

Has a off white flexible neck that is slightly off putting.

LEDs are fine and size is good. Not sure if I’ll use the magnifying glass ever.

Verve design stuff is often to be found on the clearance trolley at the end of the lighting section at Bunnings Rydalmere, from what I can tell these definitely aren't worth $63, that's the price error if anything infact, rather than it being listed for $20.

Seems to me it's just a price correction 😉🤣 !

  • Not very nice looking or good mounting options - wouldn't be worth $63.

  • Was this one designed by Dave Jones for his son Huxley?

  • Warning - these can easily start accidental fires if you're not careful.

One of my co-workers left a similar lamp on their desk, and left to work elsewhere in the building. After a couple of hours we smelled smoke - the sun was now shining through the windows onto their desk, and the lens in the lamp was burning a hole in the desk!

We moved it before a proper fire started, but had it been put on the desk on an overcast Friday, we could have returned to a burned-down building on Monday. Or had it focused on paper, had an instant fire.

Never use these where there is any potential for direct sunlight to hit them. Yes, it does have a flap to cover the lens - after a few uses, people will leave it permanently in the "up" (uncovered) position, so it's not really any protection.

We changed to a maggy lamp on an arm, bolted to a desk where direct sunlight never reaches. And when I say never, that includes at dawn and dusk, when the sun is on the horizon.

    • Accidental fires can happen with any L-ion batteries. Specially when a battery it's damaged or faulty. This disclaimer from you I don't see why it should apply to this product, since it's not battery operated.

      • fires can happen with any L-ion batteries.

It has nothing to do with batteries. I'll say it again since you missed it:

the lens in the lamp was burning a hole in the desk!

These is the first time , I ever heard something like that happen.

          • @Scrooge McDeal: How often do you learn the cause of a fire that burned a building down? Fire brigades attend several fires a day in large cities, it never gets in the news unless someone died or the building had historic value. And even then, you normally only see speculation as to what caused the fire.

Quote: "London Fire Brigade said that 125 fires have been triggered by the sun’s rays over the last five years."

And that was mostly from things that weren't designed as magnifying glasses! Read more: https://www.sciencefocus.com/planet-earth/can-sunlight-throu…

            • @Russ: Conclusion is, never let a Magnifying lens ( glass ) on direct sunlight specially on prolonged period of time. Which it's common sense I believe. Always close the top lid of magnifying lens( glass) to avoid any risk of fire. That would be a better disclaimer, I think.

              • @Scrooge McDeal:

Which it's common sense I believe

And yet, nobody thought of it until I gave an example of it actually happening. People don't expect passive objects to cause fires, and many aren't even aware that you can start a fire by concentrating sunlight. So it's not common sense.

                Always close the top lid

And people are lazy, and get easily distracted - like by a phone call while they're using the lamp.

Why are you trying so hard to deny it happens? I've given you an actual example of it happening, and listed a quote from an authoritative source that it happens. Would you rather my warning is watered down, and have someone's home burn down?

I got one and like it a lot so I ordered another two.
    I think it's excellent for $20.
Maybe I'll use the magnifier function some day, until then the cover remains down.
No direct sunlight in my house anyway.
