Savings Account Online ID Verification

Any idea how the online ID verification is done while opening a savings account? In two separate instances with two different banks they were unable to verify the details from a Medicare card. Unfortunately, that is the only ID available from the list of eligible IDs.

Previously I was able to open account using DL (which had since expired) & Medicare. Do the banks use CRAs for this as well? Having had no credit card how likely is it that they have a record? Would the previous saving accounts have created an entry?

Also is it possible to request for ones details to be added into the CRA after proper verification?

P.S: I am aware that I could still do the ID verification in the branch, but looking for a long term solution.

Best long term solution is to renew your driver's licence because you'll need it for other id checks as well and if all you have in general as id is a Medicare card, you're going to have issues again.

Pretty sure Drivers Licenses are not intended or authorised to be used for matters other than policing.

      • They're not intended for ID purposes, but it's certainly a very handy and quick way for someone to photo ID themselves if they choose to - it comes in a small plastic rectangle that fits in your pocket!

      • Pretty sure? How sure?
Banks still ask for driver's licenses, pretty sure they're not policing…

        • Pretty sure, as in certain. It is printed on the back of my license.

          • @djsweet: No it doesn’t. Unless you got yours after 2017, when I last renewed mine.

Source: Also have a NSW driver licence, as per your location.

    Just use Optus
    And everybody has your details….

Make sure your input your name exactly as is on the medicare care.

ie. "John C Smith" and not "John Christopher Smith" - exactly as the card shows.

    • ^^^ THIS

OP needs to enter the name exactly as it is shown on the card, nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise it fails.

    • Trust me it is exactly as it is on the card. I double triple checked

  • Medicard verification almost always doesn't work!

Use your customer ref/driver's license instead.

Australian govts have a couple of dozen verifications on their websites that make it so difficult of a non-techy to use, and yet these website users
    still get scammed.

  • Maybe card has expired?
Regardless, log into the Medicare portal on the MyGov website, and you can see an image of your card. If all checks with your card then I have no idea!!

    • yea, that's what I did. would the fact that the first name and the last name appear as 2 separate lines make any difference?

      • If your name is on 2 separate lines and it's not an extremely long cultural name, then there's definitely a problem

        • nah, they couldn't fit the name in a single line. The first name is 8char long and the last name is 17char long

      • Don't really know but reckon it may help if you point that out when they ask for your details?

        • oh well, got to go to the branch now.

          • @nokia3660: You should have gone yesterday

            • @[Deactivated]: haha.. me going to branch was inevitable. This post was to prepare for the next bank that tops the savings interest rate.
