Buying iPhone 14 Outright

Hi everyone,

I heard that if we want to buy an Iphone 14 outright at retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman,.. We need to show them an ID? Is it right? Does anyone have this experience please shed a light on this. Thanks.

You do not need to show identification.

It's usually only procedure when buying from Telstra and other carriers I assume.

    • Because Telstra only sell phones with SIM cards. You can buy from Telstra and cancel your plan right away to get it outright, as Telstra only sell monthly plans. But it still comes with a SIM. Telstra resellers sometimes sell on contract plans, like JB sell Telstra plans on fixed contract for several years.

      • Nope I've bought a phone from Telstra outright without a sim before and they still asked for a good amount of ID.

        • Did it come with a prepaid sim starter pack?

Why would that bother you ??

    • No bother at all. Simply just want to know

But the question is like saying " do I need to walk into the shop to purchase in-store"

Like, you'll have your ID on you anyway, right? So what does it matter?

  • Jb hifi and other similar retailer's might profile you as a risk and want to see id. Could pay in cash

That's interesting. I've never experienced this nor heard anything similar from anybody I know

You will need photo ID for click and collect at Jb Hifi

  • I collected an iPhone 14 from Officeworks and didn't show anything just gave my name.

You do not need ID to buy a mobile phone, only when you buy a sim card to use on the network.

  • why would you need to show ID?

  • Yeah, you have be 18+ to use an iPhone. Its not a child's play 🤣
