Pool Chemicals - Best / Cheapest in Melbourne?

Hi all.

Any tips or insights on the best place to buy pool chemicals? Cheaper would be better, ideally in bulk.

Not from a Pool Shop! They just give basic chemicals a fancy name and apply a huge markup.
For example, the pool shop may recommend "Alkalinity Up" which is only Bi-carbonate Sodium.
The Zodiac brand is around $6.50 a kg, yet you can buy the identical product from Coles/Woolies for under $5.00 a kg. Or from Costco for about $2.50 a kg
    .
Same is true for most (if not all) pool chemicals.

    • If you are going to a pool shop to have your water professionally tested don't you think they deserve a sale due to the cost of buying the machine to do the test plus it costs about $5 for every test they perform.
The advice they give you also helps so much. They have taught me so much because pools can be quite complicated when you first start out. You can't put a price on that.
So yes they may be more expensive but you get so much more value from the service they provide.
Bunnings is definitely cheaper by about 30% but who can help you there. Pretty much no one.
I go to Clark rubber and they are fantastic, not just one person but every single staff member that has served me.

      • Yes and I do buy some items from them - like a $900 pool cleaner.
But I refuse to encourage their high price for certain common chemicals.

pool shops are small business, they test my water and they reccomend the required addition. I am happy to pay extra to support the small business not big corp like bunnings
