Web Host Recommendations

Hi guys,

looking for recommendations for web hosting. Currently with VentraIp for a small wordpress website and the price for a year went from $71.40 last year to $130. Exactly the same features and bandwidth nothing has changed.

Speed and reliability are the main things i need apart from price.

Thanks

  • IONOS does Wordpress hosting for 1 USD per month for the first year.

  • Some of the most common recommendations other than VentraIP are Clickhost and DreamIT. I think Clickhost is a bit expensive, so DreamIT might be worth the try.

Personally, I get my sites hosted overseas and use CloudFlare.

    • I might do that mate - get them hosted overseas. Is is slower due to the ping? Does it affect the seo being overseas?

      • SEO will be affected if the website speed is slow, not so much because it's hosted overseas. There are a lot more factors affecting SEO. It would be more difficult especially if you're competing against F45.

SiteGround is another overseas hosting company that has a server in Sydney. The first year is always cheaper (as with other hosting company) priced at $4.99 / month + GST.

Edit: Also, SiteGround doesn't use Cpanel. They built their own dashboard in response to increasing prices of Cpanel.

    • Appreciate your feedback @xaykogeki

Our pricing is mostly structured around sustainability and reliability. Both of those things cost real dollars so we need to make sure that we're profitable now and into the future.

cPanel increasing pricing every year doesn't really help, but we are cheaper than VentraIP and our cPanel pricing with DreamIT is generally comparable (especially while sales are running).

      • Any sales running at the moment with clickhostAU?

        • Reach out to sales :) we can generally accommodate with a decent discount.

  • Is this cpanel hosting?

I've only been roughly following threads on forums last 9 months or so …

Cpanel increased their direct licence charging last year by a significant amount… Which many hosts then passed on costs to end users.

1.) Either find a host that absorbs increased cpanel fees (probably not a good quality host - will be bad in other areas).

2.) accept increase in cpanel licensing fees.

3.) find a host that uses something other than cpanel.

Personally, i went with option #3 … Downside == makes it harder to change hosts down the track (as prior could do a cpanel-to-cpanel direct migration between hosts … With minimumal effort).

    • So ive had a fitness website running the past 8 years. I'm a PT. Had it on cpanel and wordpress as i used to do posts regularly. Due to covid and the overabundance of f45's and other group fitness i haven't even updated it the past 5 years. Ive just let the website run. Went from 1 google search in adelaide to second page. Was thinking just making it a static 5 page site with no posts but i need a contact page also. Ventra is charging me $12 a month for this

My other website is a small business and i get about a job a week on it. It's near the top of google search when a customer searches. I put it on cpanel wordpress also as it was easy to build. There's no posts just 3 pages and a contact page. This is the one that went from $71.40 to $130 this upcoming invoice.

A mate told me there is free options if i make them static sites. My only question is will that affect the google seo search listings if i move them or make that static?

Also what are the overseas options for cpanel like? are they slow? does it affect the seo.

Sorry for so many questions. Thanks a lot guys

      • +1

You should be able to host both those websites on the same hosting with Ventra, cutting out the $12 a month at least.

  • is it a static website?
how much traffic do you typically have?
because there are free options as well.

    • Do you have some suggestions for a free option for low-traffic, static one page sites? A while back I looked at sites that pull from Github (like Render) but it got all too confusing for me. Currently I'm using Wordpress hosted on cpanel. Also, I need the email hosting too and I couldn't find any free hosts with IMAP

      • Do you have some suggestions for a free option for low-traffic, static one page sites?

        • Github pages
        • Gitlab Pages
        • Cloudflare pages
        • Netlify
        • S3 with a custom domain

Also, I need the email hosting too and I couldn't find any free hosts with IMAP

I have all my email sent to my domain forwarded to my free gmail account. You can set up a different sender in gmail to use your domain, if you need that.

  • I'm with https://webcentral.au/ IMAP email and pretty straight forward cpanel website. Service is adequate, about a day of downtime a year on average, which isn't ideal but in the end hasn't been annoying enough for me to bail to somewhere else. Three years hosting for AU$250.20, which would protect against near future price rises.

  • I switched my domain hosting to Quantum Core end of last year. No hiccups so far.
They offer web hosting but can't say I've used it. Smallest plan is $4 month/$48 year.

  • I'm in the same boat. I'll probably search for somewhere that does a sign up discount, then switch again for as long as I need to following discounts… so annoying.
