Cheap Cloud via VPN Method ?

Hi guys, we all know the Turkey or Argentina VPN method for cheap Netflix and other services but is there anything similar for cloud storage ?

Dropbox cheapest paid option is outrageously $19 a month. Google Drive way cheaper but defo not a fan of Google.

Has anyone tried get cheaper deals via vpn ? cheers

  • you can easily get multi TB worth of "cloud" storage by invest on a NAS, and DDNS/port forward it to access outside of your home, with much better privacy too.

    • definitely gonna setup one although im looking for cloud service as a backup in case all my hardware gets stolen / burnt / annihilated / dies. cheers

      • same argument could be made from the other side.

in case all my hardware gets stolen / burnt / annihilated / dies

what about the case of the cloud service restrict your account due to usage of VPN,
you simply had no credit in your debit card for them to withdraw, causing account suspension.
the company went out of business,
data center had earth quake etc,

        as a backup

I think you get what I mean already, always good to double protect everything.

edit: If not Apple then OneDrive has deals too, just search for them.

  • looking at it from high level, NAS is not a set&forget solution. The device has to be connected to 24/7 power outlet. There will be some ongoing energy cost apart from maintenance issues as well as failure disks and data loss.

    • i think its complamentary with a cloud service, NAS doesnt replace it but does miracles for streaming with Plex in the household

  • How about this.

  • You can get 1TB lifetime for free here: https://www.terabox.com

I've had it for over a year, I just store encrypted backups on it.

  • If your worried about non known cloud services one can easily have multiple brand known cloud services, there all tied by email for login and one can easily make multiple email accounts to have multiple cloud accounts for google drive, one drive basically all cloud services, otherwise havent had any issues with terrabox, Mega or Degoo cloud services which offer larger amounts of storage over the known branded cloud services

PS: I dont believe in paying for any cloud services period, why would one when there are always ways to get them for free
