    "Awesome Foursome"

    • +1

      I have Cravings

    • This is largely misleading and deceptive advertising by Woolworths yet again!

Every week they have specials and I run up to buy the ones I want but I find my local Wooworths (Metro) doesnt stock them.
This even when though I check online and I plug in my suburb and select my store, the special shows up.

So it looks like this is only available at the Large Woolworths Stores and not at thier smaller metro stores even though thier online advertising suggests it is.

When is the Dept of Fair Trading going to do something about this?

      • You can raincheck specials at Woolworths if they don't have stock I thought?

        • You can at Coles but Woolies got rid of it during Cpvid and I do not think they brought it back. Seems to me like a lot of companies used Covid as an excuse to change things they wanted to change but knew would be unpopular.

  • +3

Tried Salted Caramel & Boysenberry last time, too sweet for my liking. The texture of the ice cream was also ok.

  • Choice bro

  • +4

The boysenberry one has no business slapping so hard. Thanks op time to load up.

    • +2

You aren't wong, I had it a month or so back and it reminds me of Dairy Bell ice cream back in the day… Generous amount of boysenberry, and although I don't think there is, I swear there was flake-like chocolate throughout.

      • +4

        European style stracciatella choccy flakes

        • Oh, that explains it. I should have looked closer… It is just awesome, flavour and texture.

  • +1

Tried the cookie dough last time and it was a bit underwhelming. Think it's time to try the boysenberry!

    • As was awesome foursome. Very weird texture

      • +1

…I think it could be described as almost taffy-like. I do love it, though.

  • +2
    • I found there weren't many hokey pokey pieces in mine, and almost none in the top half of the tub. Did you get lots?

    • +1

Is this a rebranding and attempt to command higher prices? Previous HP at Woolies was NZ made, cheap, and pretty decent. No longer available at my local stores. Maybe this brand made that especially for Ww a la the suppliers of many ALDI products.

Tried the Streets Blue Ribbon Duo 2L at half price recently. Pav/Berry - NO! / OK, certainly not worth full price imo.

Anyone recommend reasonably priced vanilla 2+L? Standard buy is ALDI Silver Scoop. It's ok but not big on the vanilla flavour.

      • +1

if you are willing to spend more and have 1l tube, try Vanilla Ice-Cream from Aldi (NZ made too), the cost is $7.99, but it tastes great, with lots of vanilla flavour!

        • +1

Thanks. There are a few good ones in 1L specialist brands. Haven't seen that one. Local store's stock mgt is the worst of any ALDI I've been into, which doesn't help.

Edit: just found this. Nice if it was rebranded Talleys Oravida

          • @Igaf: Yes, you found it (sorry, I forgot the brand) - Kapiti is the brand they are selling it under. We tried vanilla and there is a berry sorbet - which tastes great too. Highly recommend to try both of them.

      • That hokey pokey was Tip Top brand iirc. Different mob?

This might interest some: Much Moore gets an occasional mention

I usually wait for bulla vanilla and the choc chip ones to go on sale, then load up - have a chest freezer specifically for storage of icecream HAHA

      • +1

Go Peter's vanilla for sure. Aussie made, good taste and often on special for a good price

        • Peter's Original was my go to. It's reduced fat - 4%. Was it always, can't recall but I did notice a texture changes years ago.

Milk fat has a significant effect on the perception of flavour. As a source of flavour, it contributes significantly to the buttery, creamy, and ‘rich’ flavour of ice cream. It is also the main carrier of added flavour, owing to more odour molecules dissolving in fat than in water. Fat also influences the rate of flavour release, the perceived flavour intensity, and the duration of flavour: generally speaking, a higher fat content leads to a slower release of flavour, lower flavour intensity, and a longer duration of flavour.

Milk fat contributes to the smooth and creamy texture of ice cream by lubricating the palate, thereby reducing the perception of coarseness due to large ice crystals. Fat globules also mechanically obstruct growth of ice crystals during storage, thereby slowing the rate of recrystallisation and extending shelf-life.

The partial coalescence of fat globules during dynamic freezing is responsible for stabilising air bubbles, resulting in the beneficial properties of dryness, smooth texture, and resistance to meltdown. Ice cream mixes with a high fat content are more susceptible to partial coalescence than those with a low fat content. Increasing the fat level in ice cream has also been shown to reduce the rate at which ice cream melts during consumption.

Streets blue ribbon pav/berry duo was a miss for me too.

But the cheaper, normal streets blue ribbon is the best "standard" ice cream IMO. The vanilla one with buttermilk is very airy and silky smooth, and the plain chocolate one is just right.

Bulla and Peter's come in a few great flavours streets doesn't, but they're just not quite as good quality.

To get better than that, you have to pay loads more for connoisseur (or even more for Haagen dasz or Ben and Jerry's).

      • Peters vanilla is the best. 8.90 on special regularly. Used to be 7.90 till recently. Picked up a couple at $5 at iga before Christmas

  • Keenly awaiting OzBargain consensus on which flavour to try

Don’t be lazy… eat an entire tub of each over the next five days. Then report back in detail on which one is your favourite, so we can discount your personal opinion as irrelevant. Thank you, in advance, for doing your bit for the community!

      salted caramel

    • +1

I bought it the last time these were on deal. Not a fan of the foursome flavors, Bulla Creamy boysenberry was better in texture (creamier)

      • +1

yea i got the foursome with choco choco chips and it was the worst of the four, salted caramel alone was amazing

  • +1

just bought this two days ago at full price, gawd dang

Please hand in your Ozbargain membership.

    • +2

Always buy ice cream using credit cards with price protection

  • +4

It's still showing full price when I clicked on the link. Has the discount started?

  • how does this compare to Connoisseur texture wise?

  • +1

Tried both 4 flavour tubs. Groovy gumdrops is awesome flavour. Most of them are great to be honest. I wish they had the Hokey Pokey/Raspberry flavours in a 4 pack too.

  • Is this suitable for vegetarians?
    Hard luck Vegans :D

  • Why is there no mocha available anywhere these days?

    • +2

agreed, cant get into these sugar bomb combos. It's not as if ice cream doesn't have enough sugar in it already, lets add some honeycomb and caramel;(

      • What? You don't like your diabetus?

  • is it better than hagen daaz?

  • +6

I tried this stuff late last year and frankly I was very underwhelmed.

I thought to myself geez those poor kiwis.

  • question: kiwi milk/cream/dairy always better than aussie ones?

    anyone can answear it?

    • +3

I personally like NZ butter so their dairy is very good in general, I just think the target market for this product isn’t towards the premium market.

  • +7

I wouldn’t recommend if you’re used to Connoisseur and similar. Too sweet and texture wasn’t as smooth and creamy.

    • +1

I agree, Connoisseur is much better in my opinion.

  • How much more premium, compare to Bulla or Sara Lee?

    • +3

      It isn't. It's a mid-tier supermarket branded ice cream.

      • +2

        Sugars - 24.4%
        Enjoy;)

    • I think much more premium than bulla and Sara Lee.

      • Not a patch on Sara Lee imo but tastes differ widely and I rarely buy 'exotic' mixes.

        • I only buy this brand caramel exotic mix for half price.

        • Worse than Sara Lee!?

Not worth it at half this price then.

I think it's twice as good as Sara Lee. Slightly better than Bulla, even.

          • @GandalfTheCheap: Been a long while since I bought Sara Lee but the French Vanilla and Ultra Chocolate are way ahead of these, Bulla and some others imo. Taste is very subjective as we know, which is good because variety is the spice of life.

      • Pretty sure they meant Bull St Murry, not standard Bulla

This is a good mid tier.

  • Omg half price. Now I'm going to have to stock up again, running out of room in freezer. Caramel flavour is really really really good.

  • +10

I said it last time, this sells for NZ$7.50 full retail price in NZ.

There's no way it's an $11 ice cream. They are jacking up the price to make it look like a bargain at half price

    • +3

Yes it's a common marketing scam that both Coles & Woolworths partake in every week.
Add shrinkflation into the mix and it's a disaster.

The only way to shop is to look at prices per kg / 100 grams.

      • That may not be case .( At least not yet). Coles does not sell this. Only Woolies in Australia sells this brand.

    • Yeah no way would I pay $11 for it. Definitely worth $5.50 though. I usually buy 2 to 4 to keep me going until the next half price.

  • +2

Just me or does anybody else go through a tub in just one sitting?

    • Me ( in 2-3 sittings)

      • For me 2L ice-cream is a 1 sitting job :)

    • Nobody: How do you like your diabetus?

      Logical: Yes.

    • Lol..was about to say that. My wife just said that to me.

      • Just don't Pig it too quickly.

        • +1

Noobody can pig it in single sitting though.lol.

  • Tried after last deal.

    Amazing for me.

  • Tried the Much More 1L vanilla and it was so-so. Last Aldi Silver Spoon was so yellow and buttery, it blew us away. Maybe seasonal using Victorian milk. Bought same in NSW and it was so-so.

  • I am only here to read the comments. Didn't disappoint 😂

  • Doesn't show half price for me in the app

  • It’s $11 in my area.

  • As with everyone else it's $11. Not half price.

    • Showing half price online in ACT. What does the link show at your location?

      https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/browse/specials/half-pric…

      • -3

Maybe this is ACT only? Targetted? Not a deal for the rest of us then :(

        • OPs location is Qld iirc. Maybe clear your cache and see if that helps?

Your neg isn't valid if it is targeted.

          • @Igaf: Definitely half price in Brisbane, saw it on special today

  • Just went to Woolies in Victoria and $11

    • -1

Too many Kiwis living in VIC :)

      • +1

Need much moore to solve labour shortages

  • +2

According to my kiwi wife, this is the "budget" ice cream in NZ. Still pretty nice, but not the best.

Now, if they ever bring Tip Top ice cream here…homer drool

  • +1

Does not have even the P in the Premium.
    Connoisseur is way better.

  • +2

I'm afraid it's not nationwide. My online account shows it's $11 at my local store in Victoria 😦.

  • +1

Tried this ice cream for the first time last time it was on special. I had high hopes but was disappointed, I found it watery and not as creamy as I would have expected from a NZ ice cream brand. Looks like I am not the only one thinking this.

    • Nah it's definitely ordinary ice cream sold as premium.

It's not a bargain at half price, just OK. $5.50 should be the normal price.

  • Not a good ice cream AND it's just gone up 10%

  • I wish i looked at the ad before i went to get it. Didn't realise it was excluding VIC only. Got laughed by woolies staff
