These are productivity monitors - unless you're vying for a podium finish at the Excel Olympics it'll do just fine

      • +3

Lol.. Love the description. I can just imagine such a competition.. Go for gold. Make sure you are doing the green and gold proud.

Not in the market for this monitor, but having previously used a dual screen setup and now with an 34" ultrawide - wholeheartedly recommend. (not a power user 😊- office use- future gold star medallist )

        • you'd recommend ultrawide over dual screen setup? Would you elaborate more on this? (considering changing setup in future)

          • @lawyerz: I would say it is only better if you have full access to be able to set the window areas. Like you can't do 3 columns natively, only 4 squares etc

            • @serpserpserp: you can with powertoys / windows 11 though. better how though?

              • +4

@lawyerz: It really depends on what you're using the monitor for. I am presently typing from my home office with a U4919DW and couldn't be happier with it. I use it for all the usual suspects (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, Edge, etc.). The ONLY gripe I have with the ultrawide is when I want to share my screen. I have to share the App window instead, otherwise, it would be too wide for everyone else to see.

I can see how there is an appeal in having multiple monitors as managing the windows you have open is arguably easier (without having considered powertoys), and if that's your jam then hell yeah! The biggest win I get from the ultrawide is when I'm dealing with a large number of column sets in Excel or PowerBI. I can see everything without the need to scroll or have a couple of screen bezels in my way, and it's just nice! The other advantage I have with the U4919DW is that I can connect it to my MacBook / Work Laptop with a single USB-C cable and it handles everything (even has a USB Hub).

The ONLY gripe I have with the ultrawide is when I want to share my screen.

I have a dual screen setup with an ultra wide and a old 23 inch 1080 monitor just for scren sharing with the pleps who still don't have an ultra wide 😂
                  It works a treat.

              • @lawyerz: Work laptops won't often allow you to install powertoys

        • +5

Fun fact, there are genuine Excel e-sport competitions:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNWPGhzhdMg

        • You can find it on Kayo. Seriously, I watched it yesterday.

        • +2

What the hell are you talking about?

          • +4

@dav3: His inability to distinguish seconds from minutes. A real problem with the youth of today unfortunately 😔

      • Yes there are competitions on Pivot tables, power querry, VBS and power Bi. Though these are for the geeks (like myself) who will obsess on the smallest of details.

That said 60 Hz is perfectly OK and would form the vast majority of the monitor market and for good reason. They are economical and less of a hit on the company's budget. Unless there is any compelling reason I'll be putting money on buying this monitor

    • +6

      Good for Excel 2013 😏

    • -1

      what gpu do you have?

      • +1

Presumably one capable of over 60fps at 3440x1440

        • -1

          prob not

    • A good price but I agree. Once you get used to 144Hz+, 60Hz suddenly feels very sluggish. I want to see more frames when I move my mouse!

  • -5

We have these at work. Pretty sure HDMI only does 30hz and you need to use Display Port for 60hz.

    • +5

It has HDMI 2.0 so I think you’re talking nonsense.

      • +4

Have had these at work too HDMI is a crapshoot if cable, laptop and screen all work as advertised.

Go DP if you can it just works.

      • +2

No they're right, we have the newer 3419 and 3421 models and they also only do 30hz HDMI

        • Sure it’s not a driver issue?

My work laptop drives one of my HDMI monitors at max 30Hz, but my PC gets 60Hz from it.

          • +2

@5kbjvb3o: I haven't spent a whole lot of time looking into it, but I've never seen a Dell Latitude/Precision, or Surface Pro 4/5/6/7+ go at 60hz via HDMI through a Surface or Dell (USB-C and TB) dock, we have at least 150 of the monitors setup. I always just used DP cables since they came with both.

Although looking now it's possible one HDMI port is rated differently to the other, I might have a look next time I'm in the office.

    • +5

I am using this model with HDMI, it does 60hz for me at 3440x1440. I have a USB-C dock that only does 30hz and some others that do 60hz. Could also be issues elsewhere, the cable or the source itself.

      • +2

There’s two hdmi ports. Only one of them can do 2.0.

      • Check the if the monitor has HDMI and DisplayPort versions settings. My Philips 32 would only do 30hz as well until I change the HDMI version to 2.0 (I think from 1.2???), same on the DP version it was set at the lower version by default. Mine now works fine @ 60hz. Worth a try.

Damn bought that 32" inches phillips last month already…

    • +3

Damn I paid $500+ for this exact model (also used) 3 months ago :))

  • +5

Have this in workplace, not outstanding in all aspects.

    • +1

      What

  • +7

    ughh

    3415 = 34" + 2015 year model

    • +4

      2018 Manufactured

      • @untech I just received two from you, one manufactured in October 2018, the other in June 2015. Is it possible to exchange the 2015 for one manufactured in 2018?
        Thanks

    • -2

      It's a $300ish 34" monitor, what do you expect?

  • +4

Feels spendy for a used productivity monitor that could be almost 8 years old.

    • +4

      This batch is 2018 manufactured

    • +1

*5 years old. Still way too high

  • +5

    Excellent Condition:
Product may show evidence of previous use that may include minimal scuffing, light scratches on external / internal surfaces.

We have a different definition of the word EXCELLENT :))

    • +1

We have to move stock in different categories so that's used as a general classification. Sometimes, even product just out of box can have small scratch due to handling which is why we avoid mentioning that it's scratch free. Majority of the time you get better condition than this definition. This is just what we use as our classification.

  • +1

    Output MST = Daisy chain?

    • +2

Should be, it has a displayport out. 1.2 based. Should be good for a 60 hertz qhd screen behind it given a graphics card that supports MST, but not 4k or anything with adaptive sync as that came in 1.2a.

  • +3

I use this monitor at home.

Great colour, brightness and good for text. Has a USB hub and plenty of display ports.

Only cons are it's a bit dated (no usb c), standard refresh rate.

  • +3

I'm currently typing this on one that I've had for about 8 years now. It's a solid monitor with a good range of input options. I'm sure there are better options out there for picture quality, but not sure what's available this price range. It's a productivity monitor and that's what I use it for - if you're after a gaming monitor, this isn't for you.

  • too old, 2014 Model

    • 2014 model manufactured in 2018

    • In age and model #.

      U3415W -> U3417W -> U3419W -> U2321WE

  • +3

How many of these would I need to make a full 360 monitor?

    • +2

The Dell U3415W has a slight 3,800R curvature (which means that if you put several of these monitors edge to edge to create a complete circle, the circle's radius would be 3,800mm) - https://au.pcmag.com/monitors/44912/dell-ultrasharp-34-curve…

      • +7

        2 x pi x 380cm = approx 23.9m circumference. Monitors are about 80cm wide, so 30 should do it :D

        • But then you'd be monitored in.

  • -1

I would not recommend a 1440p monitor for a Mac. It looks horrible

    • Why? 1440p is what MacBooks use innit, and with the pixel quadrupling with modern 2880p Mac displays it is effectively 1440p, though I change the default settings to show more real resolution because it looks horrible that small.

    • Typing on one now and it’s great. No scaling issues at all.

  • Dell 3415W can go to 80Hz over driver setting, google it then find out.

  • +1

I just upgraded from one of these at home to a new LG38". Really like this screen for what is was while I had it.. one reason I got rid of it was it was starting to get image retention .. ie PC didn't go to sleep for whatever reason and the image would stay on the screen.. playing a full screen video or game for 15min would fix it though. did this only over the last 6 months I had it so I would say it was an age thing.

    • Same issue here. I can see outlines of websites I access retained on the screen for up to 15 minutes, especially on warmer days.

      Still an excellent, colour-accurate screen.

  • +6

So $349 for a 5 year old monitor with a likely 7-8 hours per day of office usage.

    • That’s about 13,000 business hours between mid-2018 and now. This figure also assumes the monitors were only powered on during business hours and is probably a low estimate.

Dell generally provides an MTBF rating for its monitors, which is typically around 30,000 to 50,000 hours.

Personally I wouldn’t buy a used business monitor unless it was a manufacturer refurb or an exceptionally good deal.

      • +1

We've had COVID for 3 years. They potentially sat unused 2020-2022. I bought a P2422HE last year, then this year a couple of P2419H refurbished which provide the same feature (USB c hub, daisy chain, full hd) and the 2019 look brand new (apart from the stand which have probably sat in the IT room)

Also have a U2412m which is still going strong - do DELL monitor even die?

  • $300+ for a 5 yrs 8x5 usage monitor? big NO for that, paying that much is no brainer. With 5 yrs standard business hours use, PSU reach estimated end of life, brightness and sharpness both degraded a lots. 4K screen also has problem with the chip which die/degrade quicker because of the heat if contant peak usage. Basicablly you are paying for a much degraded monitor with maximum (if very lucky) 3 yrs life.

    • I'd say it's probably got quite a bit of life left. I've had one since late 2018 and it's been flawless even though I'm what you'd consider a heavy user. The key is not to run the backlight on max which is way too bright anyway. Mine is at about 27% or so.

  • Can someone good at maths please work out if i replace my wife's dual 24" monitor wfh setup with this, will it have the same screen real estate?

    • +2
    • +2

Yes and no, to really answer your question, you need to know the current resolution.

FHD monitors are 1920 x 1080, two of them total 4,147,200 dots.

QHD monitors are 2560 x 1440, two of them total 7,372,800 dots.

This 34" is a UWQHD (ultra wide QHD), which is 3440 x 1440, different aspect ratio, total 4,953,600 dots.

It's more than 2 FHD monitors, but much less than 2 QHD monitors.

      • Yep FHD thanks.

  • 6 Months warranty on hardware.

    This seems short?

  • Off topic, where can I sell used monitors. I have a number of old Dells and Apple Monitors from office clean off.

    • +2

See what they're going for on eBay, take 25% off that for fees and hassle, and list them on the OzBargain classifieds.

  • I'm looking for an equivalent sized (or a bit smaller) monitor with 1440p thats new. Can anyone give me some makes/models to keep on eye on for sales?

  • +1

Have an original stand for these if someone wants it for free pickup epping nsw 2121

    • Can I have it please, how do I contact u?

  • Bought 2 of these, arrived today. Manufacture dates June 2015 (model# 3415wa) and October 2018 (model# 3415wb).
Firmware/interface look to be slightly different, otherwise the picture is the same.

  • Just received 3415wb (2018 manufactured?) within a 3421 box and manual

Monitor stand isn't capable of holding the monitor up (too heavy?) and monitor keeps drooping/rotating forward

@untech, @untechsupport - is the stand designed to carry the weight of the 3415? Hoping to get a fix/alternate stand
