VINTAGE: The 2021 growing season has been widely recognised as a once in a generation vintage, with perfect growing conditions in McLaren Vale.

STORY: "Growing up, I spent many happy days watching the cricket with family and friends. Today, my family and I still love the game, especially while enjoying a glass of wine with friends at Adelaide Oval’s very own ‘Village Green’.

The artwork on this front label is called ‘In My Day’ and was painted by renowned English artist Terry Harrison, featuring the Village Green in Hurstbourne Priors. It reminds my husband Richard of growing up in Yorkshire and spending long summer days watching cricket at the county’s village greens.

This McLaren Vale Shiraz is youthful and vibrant with notes of plums, black cherries, and a hint of spice. I hope it brings you as many fond memories as the Village Green, in all its forms, has brought us!", Bec Hardy.

VINEYARDS: Mainly sourced from the Klavenik vineyard in a higher, slightly cooler part of McLaren Vale, close to Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills, picked in April. A small parcel from the Howlett vineyard on the outskirts of Willunga completes the wine. Bottled early December 2021.

OAK: Six months in mainly older French oak.

This is really too much waffle for a bargain post & as such reads like an advertisement. Given the frequency of posts (every 4-6 days), I have to wonder are these ever sold at RRP?

    • +7

On the contrary - most Ozbargain wine posts (to me) lack authticity - no real vineyard or winemaking information and merely 'faceless' wines not all by any means but a good proportion.

The format of the post has evolved over a few years to try and head-off the questions I've been asked by users over the years such as "How much oak" or "How long will it cellar for?", "where's it from?"

Given we make around 500,000 bottles per year across a multiple number of labels you can rest assured they're sold as evidenced by virtue by the fact they're all recent vintages.

More details on what the Wine She Sale is here -> https://bechardy.com.au/blogs/blog-news/what-is-the-wine-she…
(again becuase we've been asked many times - we did a blog post on it :-)

All in the interests of transparency. Real wine made by real people.

      Cheers!

Yeah but are your wines ever sold at RRP, they are constantly on sale for 40+ percent discount.

        • +4

Of course, for forty years, in any broadscale distrubution business operating across multiple markets and jurisdictions they're sold at all sort of price points:
          Full retail
          Wholesale
          Export
          Distributor

In respect of the wines posted to OzBargain as part of the Wine Shed Sale, once again the full explanation re concept and pricing is here -> https://bechardy.com.au/blogs/blog-news/what-is-the-wine-she…

There's really not much more I can add to the link above.I'm afraid I have to keep moving so will draw a line in the conversation from here.

          Cheers

Don't knock it till you try it!

Honestly great wine from classy team that have been around selling for a very long time (and certainly at retail pricing and cellar door for a range of wines).. I get your point re: the amount of spam calls and advertising about wine (I've even started getting AI-generated cold calls about wine sales.. where it isn't even a real person and they just keep continuing to talk over you!)

But, I can vouch for great quality and prices from RD who is always willing to respond to queries and not put the hard sell on recommendations.
In terms of lengthy details - I would say the more details the better.. but each to there own!? Enjoy

Thanks @TonyBaloney for the kind words.

We've been receiving a few of those AI calls too! They're awful hey!

Again, in the interests of transparency 2023 marks the year we've ceased using outbound phonecalls (though they were never AI).

And, as you say, each to their own…

        Cheers! RD :-)

Yes I've had some of their juice before, it's decent for the price. I'm not knocking the product, but you do wonder with the constant 40-60% off deals (every few days), why are they discounted and is the RRP real…either it's not selling, or it's a fake price, they're not doing it out of sheer altruism. That and the owner fellow relentlessly sandbags his posts & tries to squash any dissent people post.

AI spam calls…that's a…disturbing new trend.

        • +2

Not sure how I can "squash dissent" or "sandbag" in an open, community forum. Trying to provide honest answers to peoples genuine enquiries.
As I offered to you around two weeks ago, happy for you to call me on 0433 166 181 and I'll gladly walk you through the business and distribution if you are genuinely interested. Cheers! RD :-)

@RD ADL: Hey I thought you had to "draw a line in the conversation".

Why can't you be open & transparent here…the questions are pretty obvious, I don't need to spend time listening to you waffle in my ear when I can read it (while listening to someone else waffle) at work.

It's all good Richard, by not telling me what I wondered aloud, you've given me more than enough.

            • +2

@The Judge: Each to their own. Enjoy the afternoon at work. RD :-)

    • Tldr

Good australian wine at a good price

      • Thanks @Ghost Stock. I had to google TLDR - you learn something new everyday. Thanks :-))

I’m happy to have a decent description of the wine as there’s nothing worse than taking a punt on something you know nothing about only to find it’s vinegar. I’ve bought a few boxes of Bec Hardy and recommended them to friends.
Everyone has different interests on ozbargain but I’d rather check out one of these deals than look at a udemy, Ugg Australia,Sutton Forest Meats or amd ryzen deal any day of the week.

    • -3

To quote the great man behind the cheapish plonk, "each to their own".

  • Great wine 🍷

  • Dry wines have no trace of sweetness at all.

    • Yes. fermented dry though all reds will have around <1g/Ltr residual sugar that will remain. Any perception of sweetness will be fruit sweetness. Moreover it’s all about balance and harmony. 👍
      Cheers! RD :-)

The Judge is not much of a judge on wines. Maybe he should look at the Dan Murphy website to see some Bec Hardy wines on sale from a wine discounter. Richard puts wines on this site at reasonable prices which are real value for money. Profit has to be made and wine is not easy to stock-pile for too long, so if a wine is to be exported and that sale is cancelled, the wine may be placed on here for sale. The advantages? Wine doesn't spoil, we get a bargain (even an Ozbargain!) and Bec Hardy stays solvent to supply us with more delectable grape juice. A win, win situation methinks! Keep it up Richard and ignore the bad judge!

    • +1

Thanks @Madbro for taking the time to write all that!
Whilst one recent deal was a genuinely a canceled export order I do tend to stay away from that often over used euphemism. :-)
Most of the wines in the www.wineshedsale.com.au are just overruns - bits left over when container doors have closed or we run a little more off to keep that small, fun aspect of the business rolling.
There’s a few new wines in there after recent bottlings ahead of vintage - enjoy! :-)

      • Thanks for the heads up, Richard.

  • I’ve bought a few of these deals over the past year. Some bottles were excellent and some were average but all have been better than I’ve found at a similar price point from dans or BWS.

    • @ozbfilter glad that for the most part you’re enjoying the wines - interested for the feedback to know which ones you felt we’re average…. Thanks for posting and enjoying the wines. Have a great weekend. RD :-)
