Has Anyone Used iPay88 for Payments in Malaysia?

I am trying to make a booking with a hotel in KL and there is a wrinkle.
It is quite a large hotel and we have stayed there before but now, the management insists that I prepay (no problem) but that I do so via iPay88.
I had never heard of that payment platform so I checked it out online, and there are quite a few stories of data breaches related to it. As recently as 6 months ago, there was cases that customer details were being released online and used for the usual dodgy purposes.
My wife says that I am over reacting but having been through the hassle of changing my CC details once recently due to the Optus breach, I am being a bit cautious.
Has anyone used iPay88? Can anyone provide feedback, positive or otherwise?
Thanks in advance.

Get another hotel. if they can't accommodate with you, you don't either. Do mention about your online findings to them.

  • I used iPay88 on attraction tickets in Malaysia October last year.

Havent encountered any leaks/suspicious transactions on the card used.

Disposable Visa card. There are always times you might have to pay for something where things seem a bit dodgy, so good to have one.

  • Large hotel but insist payment on a particular platform only? Doesnt sounds right. Cant you book it through booking dot com?

I have travelled in Malaysia a few times and never have to use a particular payment platform.

  • Thanks for the advice all.
I rang the hotel and advised that I had concerns about the use of the platform. When the clerk replied that they would not take CC details over the phone, I told them I would be moving to another hotel.
Problem solved. I can now pay on check-in with my CC. Good result
