These cost a couple of dollars to make. Thieves.

    • +1

I had a thief come to my house once. They rang the doorbell, and asked if there was anything I wanted to give them. I said, “What do you want?” They said, “What do you have?” They came back later with a bunch of their friends and cleaned me out. If only I’d have used AirTags…

Is this an anecdote, a parable, or simply a non sequitur?

        • +2

Just the ramblings of a diseased mind

    • +3

Everything costs a couple of dollars to make.

Even houses? FFS I got ripped off
        .

The mark ups from iphones to ferraris. Man its huge. It only cost them $2 to make.

Elon be raking it in. Charging USD$250k per person when his rocket only cost a couple of bucks.

        • Me too. I tried to do a chargeback but the bank has not replied. I will give them a few more years!

    • The AirTag retails for less than USD 30 and has an estimated manufacturing cost of USD 10 (not including software costs and R&D).

Is it only that small % . The people in that economy will have no problems paying x 5 - x8 $50 -$80 .

      • And then you add labour, packaging, storage, shipping, sales, taxes, profit margin, losses (theft, warranty), software, R&D.

The value proposition to most is clear, especially if it helps you find something you’ve lost its value could be anything from cost value to infinite for sentimental items.

The only thing I’m not sure of is how long they’ll actually last. 3 years? 5 years?

        • +2

Not much R&D on this, this is just an improved version of what was already on the market which they would have copied like they do most things.

Are you saying they should be sold for a couple of dollars? Sounds like communism…

      • -2

Nah, I'm saying iFools and their money are easily parted. Some will even advocate for Apple to rip them off because if they don't get ripped off it could be mistaken for communism.

        • I mean, they work, they serve a purpose and they’re good at. Air tags are great at tracking stuff and locating lost devices.

      • Your comment is a good example of how we're falling into the same trap America did.

"Communism = evil" was rammed down people's throats for so long that so many simply accept it as true, even if they don't understand at all what communism is, let alone questioning whether it's evil, and certainly not questioning the interests of the people perpetuating this meme.

Your comment is evidence that you have swallowed this overly simplistic and outdated slogan hook, line and sinker, and it's also clear you don't know what communism actually entails!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are some people with severe mental incapacity who can be very noisy on the internet, and your comment makes it clear you're one of them. I hope for your sake that I am wrong about this.

        • They're probably just a bot designed to stir up trouble. I'm surprised they didn't call it socialism

  • Is this cheap, or should I wait for a better deal? Going to be flying a lot over the next couple years and want to start putting these in my bags

    • +1

Not really. You’d need a Costco membership just to save $10.

Probably can find a better deal stacking cashbacks on eBay etc.

Early on I got a 4 pack for under $100, but that was some BNPL bonus $50 off $150 spend.

  • OOS

  • been waiting since December for these to come back. Gave up and bought from Amazon for $12 more Figured if I lost something the extra would pale into nothing

    • Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone?

      • +1

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

  • You can still buy it in store for $132.99
