3.5kg is too much weight for carry on for flights as usually only allowed 7kg, looks so light yet so heavy

      73L carry on…

Think I might have seen you on a flight!

      This is not a carry-on luggage, most airlines limit the size of carry-on to 56 x 36-45 x 23cm

Thanks for letting me know, thought it was for carry on due to the picture of the passport as am not sure where else you would carry a passport in that bag for

        • So you could be robbed of it in 95%+ of countries.

        • I think there is a carry on version of this, three different sizes shown in one of the pictures, that size is not this deal

  • Good for car travel. I have a few of theirs already.

  • Thanks OP. Good price with free delivery for me

  • What is the advantage of this over a suitcase?

    • +2

      There isn't imho.

You can get a larger suitcase luggage bag with double the capacity and similar weight in addition with 4 wheels

      Like for example

      https://www.myer.com.au/p/antler-lincoln-large-black?istComp…

Almost double the capacity but only 1KG more in weight.

This fits a body better with less bending

      • +3

        This comment right here officer.

      • Bones don't bend though, have you tried an axe/machete? Don't forget to keep an eye out for a bargain here!

        • Abby Choi's ex husband has entered the chat.

I prefer soft cases as I've had hard cases crack before. Of course if you are worried about your items being damaged when it's inevitably thrown around by baggage staff, then make sure you wrap any valuables in clothes and towels

    • Just packs down for storage better IMO

Price looks good for 73L however I just don’t prefer any luggage bags without 4 wheels. Gets very difficult to drag especially when you are the only one dragging two or more bags.

    • I'm the complete opposite. I have carried 5 large 2 wheeled bags all daisy chained. No way that would work with 4 wheeled bags without constant tipping. 4 wheels are great when you only have 2 bags. Any more and it's chaos. OC YMMV…

  • It would be great with backpack straps

  • Thanks OP, grabbed 2.

  • Been doing some research as I've needed to get a duffel bag for some plane trips which don't allow hard cases.

Was looking at the wheeled Duffel including this and some from North face and Patagonia. But the weight savings aren't there with these wheeled duffels. I ended up with the Patagonia black hole for weight, durability. My 2nd choice was the black hole wheeled but both these are a lot more expensive.

This would be good for a weekend trip etc but not sure I'll trust the durability.

    • Lots of name brand suitcases get destroyed after one or two uses

Only thing that's held up for me with multiple trips over 10 years is my osprey porter 46. However, my partner also purchased one, and the straps broke after the first use.

      • Some wise advice I got once said "Buy a suitcase on the assumption it only lasts one trip, anything more is a bonus".

Don't I know this. I have a graveyard of around 7 Samsonite and 2 antler luggages with both hardcases to softcases. My current ones are a premium Samsonite and I decided to try July luggage too.

The more parts, the more reason for failure (such as wheels/handles). The normal issues I've had so far are zips, frame breaking through the soft cases as well as wheels breaking.

One reason I went with the Patagonia was the durability and how simple it was (as well as the weight). Osprey Transporter duffel was my second choice actually along with the north face base camp.

        • I have july checked and so far so good (can see the abuse marks but nothing drastic)

    • I can recommend the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45L (carry on) which I've been using 7+ yrs which is super durable and pretty light at 1.3kg. Check the drop down menu for more colour combinations. It also comes in a 30L if you prefer smaller. You can wear it as a backpack or carry with a shoulder or hand strap

    Cheap for a reason

  • This is the carry on version (less than half the capacity for $2.90 more) for anyone interested.

Seems to be a half decent price for this size medium quality travel suitcase I guess…. But OP's post is definitely better value, though not quite an ideal size given it's a bit small for checked luggage capacity and can't be used as carry on… So the value proposition is very dependant on your requirements for use of this type of bag.

2.9 kgs for the carry case on when you only have 7kg limit……..

      • Yeah not ideal… But I think only Jetstar checks carry on weight (currently, for domestic), not that this actually changes anything but most this size carry on will be 2kg+ anyway.

        • Qatar weighs the bags at check-in and put a label on. Singapore seems to weigh if it looks heavy at the gate. And from memory of quite a few years back flying out of Auckland, they weigh it just before customs.

For a 7kg load, just get a good backpack, and it won't weigh that much.

  • Capitalising on Apple brand name for their operating system. Genius !

    • Other way around. Apple capitalising on a 40 year old brand name for a version of their operating system.

      • Both wrong..

The name "High Sierra" refers to the High Sierra region in California

        • +1

Can't beat an area named centuries ago 😕

  • I Have this bag, its a hoot for traveling big, High Sierra is a top brand and the bag is well made, done 2 trip with it, no complaints.

  • Price is back to $149
