What Happened to All The Good nbn Deals

Is it just me that ISP's these days are offering the same NBN deals and not differentiating themselves.

I mean 6month deals are such a waste of time cause you just either move from the ISP or talk to retention team and they give you another 6 months for the same price.

If there are any nbn providers out there reading this offer a deal that is hard to beat!

A good example was recently TPG offering half price for six months now though TPG has there ups and downs it's crazy competitive but feel some ISP's like ABB really don't offer jaw dropping deals

but feel some ISP's like ABB really don't offer jaw dropping deals

I feel they dont need to anymore.

ABBs jaw dropping deal is not gimping your speeds during peak hour (while prioritising traffic to speedtest.net servers so your speeds always appear as advertised when they ask you to test) and having tech support that doesn't make you want to make you kick yourself in the balls.

  • I totally agree. that's why i'm sticking with Felix Mobile. I don't get why NBN is so expensive now. I agree six month deals are a waste of time

    • Let me know how you go with this… Felix may cut you off unless you are doing it via hotspot…

  • In an industry where all the retailers are just on-selling a monopoly wholesalers product at a small margin, there isn't any capability for them to offer genuinely good deals. Any reduction in their price means they are losing money. And its only going to get worse because NBNCo needs to steadily increase its prices and profits to justify its creation and existence. The NBN, in the form Labor created it in, was never going to be a bargain for Australians.

It's not often I say this but New Zealand government with the role out of UFB (Ultra Fast Broadband) was amazing standard their is now 300/100mbps for $70 NBN is so fragmented and the decision to limit upload speed and charge a huge amount for it is just not justified

        NZ a smaller country

      This.

  • You are really just buying the service from one company. NBN Co.

There is no real competition here.

It is the illusion of competition which counts :)

What’s wrong with doing 6 months deals and rotating between providers?

I understand some are scared to be offline for few hours twice a year, but the savings is worth it.

      I am scared :(

      • Same sometimes huge inconvenience to do unnecessary re setup! My current AGL NBN50 plan at $49 pm for 12 months is a great deal for me.

    • Are there any good ones going at the moment? I didn't see any with a quick search

      • Dodo, Exetel and Tangerine are ~$54 monthly for the first 6 months on the 50/20 plans.

Check your energy provider, AGL and Origin give some good discounts if you are with them.

If you have access to a Commbank card, go with More telecom, their promotional prices are for 12 months.

        • I just finished up my 12 months with More. They had good prices

          • +1

@Freighter: Go with Tangerine and when your 6 months are up, retention team may offer you another 6 months if you start paying using a Commbank card.

Prices might go up given NBN Co's desire to push people to 100mbps plans, at least for 50mbps plans?

    • I just need 20mbps up so I can work from home. I don't need 100mbps download but you know apparently the government wants us to have higher speeds because the stats look better.

    • Yeah NBNCo have proposed to increase prices on the 50Mbps plans and they are removing the Bundled CVC as well, or certainly not providing as much.
But the move isn't really practicle as a lot of homes most actually can't even achieve 100Mbps speeds. You need to be close to a node for FTTN customers to get those speeds and it will be quite a while before the FTTN network is upgraded also some FTTC customers struggle as well getting 100Mbps depending on the quality of the install.
Not to mention Fixed Wireless can't even achieve 100Mbps.
NBNCo are focused on making a profit.
That said they are being more competitive in the business space due to competition off Telstra as the Telstra Fibre for business products have been cheaper then Enterprise NBN Fibre.
Business customers can get 100/100Mbps speeds on NBN but its expensive cheaper from Telstra.
But even a lot of businesses don't need those speeds some who just need to mostly handle EFT and POS plus some basic stock take would get away with 50Mbps or below.
Depends on the amount of users.
This move by NBN Co to increase prices or to propose to may well explain a lot of the larger telco providers pushing Mobile connectivity as an alternative as they make more profit off it.
Also I should point out when I say the 100Mbps business product is cheaper I am talking from a provider / wholesale perspective as the Telstra Fibre offerings have been more competitive.
NBNCo are making moves in this area though.
So interesting times ahead for both consumers and business owners.

Where does that leave someone like me who syncs far from the node on FTTN at 38/10 and getting 34/8, I get their reasoning but I want to push the most out of my connection, now it’s 25 or 100!

      • Oh the NBN 50Mbps plan will still be available it will just cost more.
NBN Co really haven't thought of low end budget users much at all, its all aimed mostly at business customers the main push over recent months has been for their NBNEE, Enterprise Ethernet product which start at around the $300 per month mark depending on the zone you are in.
That is where all the priority assistance for NBN goes as well, so if you are an older person or a person with a medical condition the only provider that still is required to offer Priority assistance is Telstra no one else is required to offer it, but if you spend enough money on a business plan NBNCo will fix the issue within 4 hours.
They really need to work on better deals for voice only users as well as not everyone is a gamer or needs high speed plans. Heck even some businesses don't need high speed offerings.

  • Anyone in an Apartment on gigafy? 100/100mbps upstream is superloop
