    great deal

  • nice!

  • +3

finally, annoyed seeing these were more expensive than the 3DS before.

  • +2

Good price but to be honest I wouldn't bother paying over $100 for any DS now. The 3DS is selling faster than the DS (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-06-3ds-sells-twice…) and is actually really starting to take off in terms of titles too.

    • This is a good deal if you want to play DS games.

  • +1

I'm woefully out of date on Nintendo hardware. Do these play older games (all DS and GBA?).
Are the hinges more durable than older units?

    • +3

DSi has no GBA port, so no playing GBA games on the DSi.

      • there are emulators for GBA playback on the DSi

    • +1

it only plays DS games. If your after GBA compatibility, you'll have to get a DS Lite. I'm not too sure on the hinges, but they should be reliable as they are made by Nintendo

      • I imagine he brought it up because the DS has had problems with its hinges in the past. I forget whether it was the DS or the DS Lite that had problems, though.

Nintendo goofed up with the 3DS too, because the bottom screen rubs against and leaves marks on the top screen.

But, as far as I am aware, the DSi's hinges are fine.

    • +1

It plays DS and DSiWare games. The hinges are a lot better than the terrible 3DS hinges, but not as good as the DS Lite ones.

      • wtf, you think the 3DS is terrible and the DS lite the best? are you backwards, man?
the 3ds's hinges are very secure, very strong. the ds lite's one breaks all the time.

        • +6

My DS Lite is 4 years old and the hinges are fine…

        • +2

Mine is probably close to five yrs and ditto. Just fine.

  • +2

its only the fact the DS is a lot more break proof in a 4yo's hands compared to an ipod touch that stops me abandoning the whole DS range. all my older kids have moved on to ipods, leaving the 4yo with a selection of DS's to choose from. the games are just too expensive compared to ipod touch.

      r4/dstt cards are your friend

  • When's that new pokeman game coming out?
ah yes, october. bet these will be even cheaper by then.

    • The DSi would probably be cheaper or not even around come October, I would imagine Nintendo would be stopping production to focus on the 3DS as the DSi XL has already been clearanced from most stores to focus on the upcoming release of the 3DS XL

      • This logic does make sense but you have to remember that Nintendo is releasing Pokemon Black and White 2 for the DS, what SHOULD be an obsolete system by now.

They're definitely not done with the DS and its massive install base just yet considering the $$$ they can still get off of it, so I think we'll probably still see further price drops for the handheld.

  • lol, JB.

  • Was hoping dse would beat this but doesn't look like they even stock dsi consoles anymore.

  • Nice price and I can't stand the 3ds!

    • you can turn the 3d off so it is just like the ds.
since you can jst turn the 3d off why dont people just buy that?

  • -4

Will these be compatible with an r4?

  • -3

I just saw these next to the dsi xls which are $20 dearer @ $139. Surely the massive screen is worth the difference. No deal on the dsi imo.

    • -4

If anything I'd say the real deal here is on the $139 dsi xl.

      • +1

So another product is $20 more than this, and that makes this deal worth negging?

        • +1

Do not worry - some people like comparing apples with oranges. For the product, specified, this is a deal given what other retailers charge. The XL is a different product.
Some people just do not get it.
Does highon2str know that r4 cards could be interpreted as falling foul of the law?

        • -1

You can interpret it anyway you wish. There are a lot more uses for an r4 card than you think. The xl is basically the same dsi with a much bigger screen and better speakers, for not that much more.

        • It is still a different product. Compare the same product - this is what this site is all about. So compare DSi to DSi and 3DS XL to 3DS XL. It is not helpful to people who post if they get put down like this.
In six months the 4DS XXL will be much better and cheaper than the 3DS XL - this still does not mean that this post is not a deal.

  • No one's getting put down, 1 neg isn't going to cause the world to come to an end. What its hopefully going to do is create some awareness about the xl - I'm sure there are others who would rather the xl (for $20 more) over the regular dsi.

The dsi and dsi xl are essentially the same, or close enough. But the more better-erness of the xl makes it a better deal overall. :P

    • +1

The thing is, the "better-ernes" of the XL is completely subjective. Some people will prefer the larger screen of the XL, some people will prefer the higher pixel density and easier portability of the original DSi. It's completely a matter of personal preference, and that's NOT a valid reason for negging a deal — especially when this one is cheaper than the alternative.

I suggest you read over the voting guidelines:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

    • While the DSi XL for $139 is a good deal and has been that price since Target did the original price drop during toy sale which Kmart matched. Kmart can most probably raincheck the DSi offer if it sells out where as the DSi XL is being clearanced to make room for the new 3DS XL as people dont prefer the XL range as gilbarc pointed out because of the pixelation and size, which is hopefully overcome in the 3DS XL

  • Highon2str the 3ds was an extra $20 more than the dsi xl during the toysale doesn't make this not a deal. Like the others are saying mate compare apples with apples!

  • -1

The xl IS an apple. It's just a slightly larger variety.
