Thanks. Got one to make the most of my free trial, and always handy to have a couple tape measures around.

  • Thanks, ordered 1.

  • Why do they not make such items to take replaceable batteries rather than embedded batteries that have the item end up in landfill when the battery dies.

    • Because they're too big, bulky and weighty when multiples (batteries) are needed. Hell I remember my Ericsson GH388 mobile phone it had what seemed to be 5 AAAA batteries in its battery case and at the time it wasn't big and weighty, but by todays standards it would be.

Lipo are flat and compact, not to mention light, personally I love em. You do need some DIY skills/disposition to replace them.

The battery should last many years, as it does not get cycled frequently.
And usually, the battery is connected by a small plug, so can open up the gadget with a screwdriver, and hunt on Ali-express for something that will fit. If you are keen :)

We need a standard for replaceable lipo cells. We used to have one, sort of. Many gadgets used common Nokia-sized batteries, like the BL-5C, which you can still buy.
Nothing like that is in common use now :(

there are standard sizes amongst common batteries used, but there are so many sizes you really need to know either the code, or the battery specifics or both.

just yesterday I replaced a motorcycle comms battery that wouldn't take a charge. Jewellers screwdriver was all that was needed. Battery was 802540 3.7V 800mAh. $8.60+del from Brisbane, Shout out to Tempero Systems.

all sizes have codes, you can cross-reference voltage/capacity and physical dimensions if you know where to look or ask. AU electronic stores are so helpful, great community too.
