    Strangely competitive pricing seems to coincide with a collapse in the USD-AUD.

    Unfortunately it appears to get the cheaper flights it is not direct on one of the legs - direct flights both ways seem to jump the price to about $1800 - still not too bad based on current prices. I checked into SF and out of LA and you can get direct both ways for about 1600. Not sure if you reverse that.

    In all honesty I would bypass LA and go straight to San Francisco. However, if you can book into San Francisco and come out of LA that is a good option. Hire a car from San Francisco, go to Yosemite and work your way down the coast.
