City Maps 2go - World's #1 iOS Offline Map App. Was 99c. Now FREE

1930

This is a fantastic offline map. It features 7800 maps worldwide which you download and install before your travel. No more costly roaming charges and does not require WIFI or internet to work. I downloaded the Sydney map which was about 10MB and I can even search local streets, hotels and eateries. The maps are very detailed. The map locates your current location with compass overlay. I think it is free for today only so grab it.

Enjoy.

Yes, you download the maps online for use offline.

      • +1

just perfect then, hopefully will work! tomorrow flying to malaysia :D

I was in Malaysia a few weeks ago, used it to download KL and Penang, and it was really great. Even without a SIM card, my new iPad 4G GPS worked, and while driving or scootering I could pull it out of my bag and see where to go next. You can also make your own tourist map of places to go, to plan your day.

  • Thanks… useful app for FREE.

  • +4

seems to be free on Android as well…..

    • Yep definitely free on andriod….Just installed it

      • Only free app, no map?

      • +1

Looks like you can only download 5 maps for free

      • How do you download and install the android app?

        • Okay - figured it out. Silly me :-/
          Thanks OP - great deal!

    • +4

you can use offline mode on google maps too

  • Great app just downloaded KL map for my holidays end of the month, looks great. The aussie maps will come in handy considering the number of times Vodafail drops on me.

    • can you try the ausie map with data switched off on iphone?

      • +1

Just turned off data and switched aeroplane mode, map loads fine, I move it over to another section of map that was initially greyed out and it loaded the map up. Going to be awesome on holidays.

  • awesome … now hope that the map i need wont crash!

  • Cool - Thanks :)

  • +1

you get 5 free map downloads once installed (Android)

    • How? I installed it and launched the app but saw nowhere to get the maps.

  • Free is good :D

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks mate, this is awesome! I expected the maps to be charged but they're all free, which is another big plus!

I just used this overseas (i paid for it) and it works pretty well. It'd be good if it had a route function, but its pretty good for finding streets and its great with the GPS tracking you.

It sometimes does get confused and there were times when i tried to use the "direction" function fo the GPS and it thought i was facing one direction, when i was really facing another.

Download the WikiPlus part of the maps. Worked well in Italy, France, Singapore and Prague :)

    • You have to be moving for gps direction indicator to be accurate. Works different to a magnetic compass.

      • +1

Yeah thanks for that. Didnt try moving at all. I just stood in the one spot panicing… Im still here actually… Help!

  • how does this compare to google maps' labs offline map download (with older app version)

  • Thanks Opps. Great find.

  • Grabbed it for Andriod, thanks!

    • always free on android, but only 5 maps can be downloaded free :(

      • Not sure why this is a problem. Your default Google Maps app lets you do this right now. Just choose to save offline location, draw a square on the map up to 80MB and download.

        • This never works for me. The cache keeps emptying itself even though I have it set to keep the data.

        • I'm on hols in in Malaysia & can confirm it will not save maps for locations here.
Just says map is unavailable for viewing offline. Used the offline feature in Oz no problem.

    • Why are people getting this on Android? You have Google Maps don't you?

Oh wait… is this update only limited to Ice Cream Sandwich?
I have HTC One X and have used this before, worked fine?

  • Does anyone's iphone get stuck in 'Unpacking' the map? My phone does..:-(

  • Downloaded for a tryout on my android. Thanks.
Sygic (all of Australia) is the go for anyone wanting maps without internet. It is not free but far cheaper than a dedicated gps.

  • Thanks

  • Figured it out. Great app!

Five free map downloads then pay?!

    Screw that!

OsmAnd (open street maps for Android) has always been free, and has as many free (open) maps as you have space for.

No idea foe iOS… but you guys are used to paying too much for everything already anyway…

    • Openmaps is good concept. But the amount of blank spaces in my area is ridiculous (my street isnt even on the map). Even though this app is powered in part by Openmaps, it is much better featured for sure.

  • +1

Seriously.. The unlimited in-app purchase for Android is.. $2.90.. Just checked the amount of maps that is available - just awesome and paid it anyway just for the fact that I can access it all without limits.

Its not meant to be a GPS Navigator software - but certainly works well as a GPS Mapping software. Great for traveling around without the expensive downloads for sure!

    • i'm with you. it's a bargain in itself!

  • Good find…cheers

  • Fantastic, would've gladly paid for this. Great for us ios people with no offline maps.

  • I know its prolly to keep the files smaller but streets seem to be down to street level only not house number. =[

    unless im doing something wrong?

    • It does and doesnt. Sometimes when i was trying to find things overseas and had the address, i'd put that in the search adn it wouldnt come up. However, it does have SOME street addresses. Like, if you were looking for 20 Ozbargain St, Tighar$eville, it may give you a suggestion for 15, 35, 125 etc… So i just used that as an estimate.

  • -1

I dont think it has street numbers as they use a different map to Google and sensis.

  • Nice that it's free but I don't know how useful this is. The maps don't seem very comprehensive. For example it didn't have a lot of street names for a lot of outer south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, let alone street number.

  • +1

    Some street names are missing!

  • Great for me as i'm going to Italy soon just what i was looking for!

    Was 99c Now FREE - save 99cents!

You Ozbargainers make me sick, why wouldn't you just pay the .99 cents if it's such a good product? You seem to have money to travel!

    Here are some words that come to mind when I think you guys;
    Cheap
    Tightwads
    Stingy
    Thrifty

    Just saying.

    • -1

just saying, why are you on here if you don't like bargains? and why would you pay for something that is free?

      • I wonder which one you would be? Tightwad?

    • Im happy to pay for good apps, most of the 'free' apps have 'in app purchases' so if you like it you end up spending one way or another. And we dont pay 0.99, usually 0.72c :)

      • +1

        Definitely thrifty.

        • Mate, a dollar saved is a dollar earned. Instead of paying 99c for an app that was free, I saved $1, and you might not think that is much, but I can go to McDonald's and get three soft serves and a sachet of sauce to top them. And I know if someone offered me three soft serves and a sachet of sauce for free, I would take them. Learn the value of money before you talk.
