Afterpay Day 2023 (March 16-19)

Hi all,
I am in the hunt for a new TV. Unfortunately I missed the extra 15% off perks deal from JB last week..
Is there normally a similar deal for Afterpay day? I believe it is this Thursday?
eBay (Sony store), GG or JB are probably the stores I am looking to purchase from. Does anyone recall if these stores had decent deals last year? I.e 10 or 15% off?
Cheers!

This is part of Afterpay Day sale for 2023

I reckon we will see a 20% off code for Afterpay ebay just to really fuel that impulse spend

And prob at least Tgg with yet another ‘after hours’ 1 night only sale.

  • I don't know . The normal 15% won't have as much significance as too many cash back offers have come recently including some that can use codes as well that have provide a higher % back on Ebay .

  • With eBay, we aren’t able to use GC are we? From memory we could a couple of years back, but now has to all be through Afterpay?

    • Can't remember for sure, but it may be like the zip deal where you could pay at least $1 and the rest with gift card

    • iirc the loophole is closed :/

The recent ebay 20% off thing was a bloody joke, it was jack central and lots of the items even with the 20% disc were more expensive after this "sale". Though i'm not surprised, been happening for ages and has gotten worse with Ebay Plus.

  • One thing for sure Jack is coming up

  • JB will negotiate on price. Just ask them if they would match the 15% off?

  • Why don't they call it "AfterYay" anymore?

    • Because yay is thin on the ground these days. Take a look around

  • Just registered my afterpay account, and they gave the start off limit of $600.

Can somebody tell me what will happen if the product I want to buy is over $600? Does it mean that I can't enjoy the savings of the Afterpay day when trying to buy a single product of over $600?

    Thanks

    I was reading an article
    https://www.news.com.au/finance/money/costs/victorian-family…

"Catherine, a 40-year-old mother with a newborn baby, and her partner, were forced to rely on Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services to afford basic necessities such as groceries, as they struggled to keep up with their bills and repayments as her money-handling skills were limited. They spiraled into debt, with Catherine owing $3,000 to Zip and $500 to Afterpay, while her partner had debts with multiple BNPL providers. Despite reaching out to financial counsellors, the couple faced ruthless and unyielding providers who pursued them relentlessly, leaving them on the brink of bankruptcy and the possibility of losing their cars. They remain two to three months behind on their rent and continue to struggle to negotiate the terms of their debts."

Looks like Buy Now Pay Later is the newest incarnation of old tricks…
Back in the day, Gerry Harvey would tout Interest Free offers, which were great for business as it meant people would pay his high prices because they otherwise couldn't afford to stump up the cash.
When credit became more restrictive, he introduced business rental contracts, (Flexirent), except salespeople abused the system and signed up non-businesses as approval was easier…
Now comes Buy Now Pay Later… except now it is used for people to buy essentials like food, nappies etc…

So, people of OzBargain, may you have a sensible AfterPay Day, but I know I will be thinking more than twice before buying…

It's possible to buy with Afterpay to get the discount and then immediately pay off the full amount after that. I don't see how that would benefit Afterpay in any way.

      • That is what I do. But he is referring to families and people who are already struggling financially. They are drawn by the allure of BNPL and it ends up being a debt trap.

Afterpay makes it money off such folks who cant afford to pay upfront and then end up paying fees and interest. Sad situation but this underscores why we need to live within our means at least for non essentials.
