100

Applies to DVDs, Blu-ray and 4K UHD Titles.

Obviously not a whole lot of new releases of late, particularly in the 4k collection.

Good idea to go in store, most salespeople are happy bundling them up to your advantage.

At the risk of this being an intentionally provoking troll post, I will proceed with caution

BUT, people who enjoy film, the art of cinema, want to expand their appreciation of film or simply want to have copies of their favourite movies whenever they want to watch them without the risk of them jumping to another platform, physical is 100% still the way to go.

Blu rays still look and sound better than streaming. 4k blows it out of the water. While DVD may look and sound worse than streaming, not all movies that have dvd releases are available on streaming services and will often have bonus features not available elsewhere (except maybe YouTube if you're lucky).

Right now, for example, I pay for Prime and have no intention of paying for more services forever just in case they get a new movie some time in the future that I might find interesting.

However sitting next to me I have a curated physical collection including The Before Trilogy, LOTR in 4k, a ton of Korean and Japanese films, almost every Kubrick film, the Paddington movies, Apocalypse Now (with Atmos soundtrack), Terminator 1 and 2, Twin Peaks, Better Call Saul, Sherlock, etc. I'm not sure on the specifics, but how many streaming services would I need to have ongoing accounts with to be able to see all of those whenever I wanted?

      • Yeah film is my favourite art / entertainment form, I am glad there are still physical releases. I don't even buy physical copies anymore (I have a NAS now + very aware of money/space), but physical copies make film preservation better in the long run, as streaming is of lower quality, and the way that complies like Warner/Discover are making their backlog legally unavailable forever just shows that piracy / home ownership is needed to keep these products available in the long run.

Totally agree. The Picture and sound quality are far superior to any streaming services. If people spend $$$$ on an OLED TV so they do get the best available picture, why scrimp and just use Netflix etc and put up with inferior quality? The same could be said with audio, but I appreciate not everyone can buy a 5.1 or Atmos system.

I have maybe 50 or so 4k discs and even more Blu-Rays. But I am selective with what I buy. These movies I am happy to watch over and over.
